- Hello everyone and how's it growing! In this video, we'll go through the 5 things I'm planting for August in Zone 5b. I'm so excited to have a fall garden this year and am thrilled I get to plant more seeds.
First, we're planting winter squash! I love growing winter squash in my vegetable garden. Not only are they delicious, but they store extremely well for winter and make a hearty and healthy addition to any meal.
Second, we'll plant some peppers. I started the season growing and planting many pepper plants - of which many have suffered at the hands of rabbits. So, I'm going with three varieties that should have time to get to maturity before our first frost dates in mid-October.
Third, we're planting more carrots again and I'm thrilled. In my book, you can never have too many carrots. The doggos agree! I encourage using the cornstarch method, of course, but fall planting will still require some daily watering as it's typically too hot and the soil will dry out quickly.
Fourth, we'll plant some cabbage. Now although I love to eat all different types of cabbage, I tend to plant the same two over and over, lol. Cabbage germinates easily, and is a remarkable fresh eating vegetable as well as a storage vegetable.
Finally, I am determined to try growing broccoli again! Like many of you have also learned the hard way, broccoli is a high maintenance member of your garden. She's going to need some daily attention to make it through to a harvest.
What are you planting in your fall garden?
