    Usually, additions or modifications to existing ships look out of place, and are jarring and ugly. This, however, feels like a completely natural version of the ship. If you showed this to me before I knew about the K't'inga, this would feel equally legitimate to me. And, honestly, still does. Amazing work.

    Astonishing how you are able to make an already iconic design seem fresh without going overboard. The paint work is (and really the overall build), as always, exquisit! Great video Admiral! Makes me want to get a kit going.

    I usually don't like "dreadnought" style modifications to ships, but this one actually works really well. It all still flows right and fits the feel of the ship , while being bulkier and meaner looking than the original. Great work.

    The winglet addons feel like a call-forward to similar structures on the Vor'cha-class. I like this; it kind of comes across like the KDF isn't so stagnant and traditionalist as people take them for, and are trying new things. We see a pretty logical and straight forward progression in Starfleet designs, but we're seldom graced with similar for the Klingons, so this feels extra special.

      @@TychoYard I know, and this one is one of your best designs. Also, how they use your designs effects how some of us receive it. This Klingon D7-7 command ship is excellent. If Paramount/CBS used it correctly it would be an amazing ship in the proper series or film.

    Just perfect. Like the K’Tinga’s mean older brother. Also the overall character reminds me of the later Negh’Var class which sort of ties the lineage together.
    I really like this format. From following your builds I notice you usually complete the entire model assembly before any of the painting and finishing work, as opposed to working in subassemblies. Do you think this is a superior method or just your preference/habit? It must take quite a bit of thought to figure out how to mask off all the various lighting elements during painting.

    • @TychoYard
      @TychoYard  8 місяців тому +2

      This is my preferred method of construction. Gluing and bodywork is a messy and dusty process so I want to make sure everything is wired and working, seams filled and the entire model primed and ready for painting at one time. The last thing I want to worry about is gluing, filing, sanding, priming and repainting a seam on a previously painted part or subassembly. This seems to me counterproductive.

    Absolutely stunning result! The K'tinga has always been my favourite ship in the Star Trek universe, ever since I saw TMP on its release in 1979 (I have two of these kits in the stash) . This just takes it to the next level. My big question is how did you mask all the windows and lights for painting? Also, Lou's mask set is for the standard kit - did he do a custom set for you or did you cut your own for the modified parts?

    • @TychoYard
      @TychoYard  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! I masked the bridge windows with Lou’s mask set - two narrow strips across the curved bow. Since the model was molded black plastic, I didn’t need to paint those areas around the windows. The lower windows needed tiny bits of tape as the plastic was very thin and here was some light leakage from within.
      The new neck needed custom masking and that was done easily by using Tamiya tape to mask around various raised panels a little bit at a time.

    i modded my Kronos 1 too, but mainly the paint job and i moved the decals around too, i've ordered another kit but it'll take ages to get here, i think my existing model is better than the normal Kronos 1............ i might make the neck wider like you've done next time........yours looks excellent.... because the existing neck looks weak when i look at mine now, it needs to be flared out to the side with 2mm thick styrene side extensions, by about 0.5 wide an inch each side... the depth looks ok though........... to be honest we need the Vorcha in 1/350, that would look fantastic.

    So, l guess we can reclassified this as a D-8 BattleCruiser? I loved the positioning of the disruptor cannons on the top of the Narcelle wings. Imo adding 2 more cannons below on the opposite position as the top cannons would have added more bite to the ship. However, l believe this wasn't done to the possibility of the lower cannons would have interfered with the warp field between the Narcelles.
