@@llcooljay520 You are right on both counts. Firstly, Myskina was never the type to celebrate too much. Secondly, her and Elena had basically grown up together and she probably didn't want to rub it in.
Oh Elena...you should have certainly won a slam...and probably this one! That serve though...that serve. Myskina played well though and this was her slam for sure. Elena...if you could learn to come over the top of the ball and hit a serve with some power you could certainly unretire and win a major. Your groundstrokes are pure!
The foundation of Myskina’s strokes is so good, her technique is flawless easy power. Dementieva is a little more laborious. She had power because she was a tremendous athlete, not from her technique.
I have not watched Dementieva play many matches. But I will say as a coach, I would have corrected 2 things concerning her technique. First, she lifts her body when swinging at the ball on groundstrokes. If you're learning the game, it's always best to make sure you stay level and balanced when swinging through the shot... notice how she appears to rise when she is making contact with the ball (she makes it work for her, but it can lead to big problems when you are nervous or under pressure). Secondly, she seems to have almost a side arm serve motion. She does not make contact at the highest point on her serve... she loses a lot of power and makes it more difficult on herself to place her serve accurately. Anyway sorry for the rant but I was shocked when watching her technique. Myskina on the other hand is almost perfectly flawless in her technique... but if I'm picky, I would say she needed to be more explosive and reaching higher (full extension of her arm) on her serve.
Dementieva hit 33 errors and 10 double faults this match. It's definitely odd to point to this match as an example of a by-gone era of quality tennis. Even at the time Dementieva's performance was considered to be awful
@@alexdrury51592009 Wimbledon semi against Serena and 2010 AO 2R against Henin show a much better Elena. 2010 French is the one she should have won. Sad to see her retire after that year just 29. And Myskina at 26. Their contemporary Zvonareva is still going at 39 lol. It’s just her and Venus left from this era.
@@elikronenberg424 I mean watching the highlights doesn't really show it. Her serve was bad. But it was not the reason why she lost this final, really.
Anyone can win the French... meaning that it's the best chance for other players to win... of course, unless you played during the Nadal era on the men side. There were just no other good clay court players to compete against him.
There was no luck involved. She beat a number of top players on her way to the final, and she played an outstanding match to win the title. The final would've been better had Dementieva played better, but Myskina wasn't lucky.
Great match from Myskina! (The first slam I had ever watched and that introduced me into tennis!)
Love how Myskina could come up with power out of the blue.
She just won her first Grand Slam and didn't seem happy at all! Didn't even crack a smile.
Richard Smith idk if that was her style, but I do know that Dementieva was a longtime friend. Maybe she just wanted to be respectful of her opponent.

Russian style. They don't know how to smile hehehe. Or may be the opponent is her best friend
@@enjangyusuf2ndchannel468 we smile when theres a reason for it :)
They were close friends.
2 of the most beautiful tennis players of all time. My crush back in the days
MYSKINA my example! She's the Goddess to me.
I remember Myskina playing such flawless tennis in semi-final and final.
Back in the days when seats were full at Roland Garros.

Myskina was a wall in this match.

Demetieva has some of the worst technique I’ve ever seen but she was such a tremendous athlete with grit that she made up for it…until she couldn’t
@JamesFrew1 She was still top 10 when she retired. Probably got tired of all those Grand slam SF losses
Omg can someone tell myskina she won a grand slam?
I agree. So subdued.
Feels like..some tire 1 tournament..
IMO, Myskina was one of the greatest technique players
Women's tennis was great at the time. Lots of elegant yet hard hitting Russians. Fewer errors and more focus. You don't see this tennis anymore.

They don't make them like anymore🤣🤣

y si hubiera tenido slice y variedad, pero lastima, no tenia
Myskina didn't seem very happy

What was so wrong with her serve? Don’t get it, Catherine
Yup. I was expecting it to be a disaster but besides the double faults, her serve looked just as good as Myskina's.

back in the time that women hit the ball like women..
🤣
Such a boring celebration from Myskina
A great chance lost
Pretty funky looking match. Dementieva played TERRIBLE, her serve was really bad. And Myskina just sort of lucked into the title
Yeah fluked out by beating Kuznetsova, Venus, and Capriati en route to the finals. Get your facts straight mate!

The worst RG Final of all time
Nah. Underwhelming, yes. The final against Graf and Zvereva is worse.
Ostapenko?🙄
Myskina and Dementieva are both wonderful players!! They are much better than all the pushers that are ruling the roost nowadays.
I'd say Barty's win was pretty horrible as well
