- Even though we are in the year 2022, racism and racist chants are still being heard all over the country during high school sporting events. In particular, monkey noises and taunts are being hurled at Black high school basketball at an alarming rate. Rick Strom breaks it down. Give us your thoughts in the comments below!

Every single one of those students should immediately be expelled.
The parents would have acted a PLUM FOOL at the school board meeting had that happen. THEN we would know where the kids racism come from.
Simple remedy. Close down the basketball team from the school. And there's video of the racist interactions so save me the "We don't know who they are" crap..
Most, if not all, racism is taught so why would the parents stop them from doing what they’ve taught them to do? Teams/schools should refuse to play this school.
If it were me standing at the foul line I'd have a mate at the ready with his mobile phone filming the twat.
I would agree with but my only concern is that these young men may need to play to earn scholarships or some other thing that would assist in cementing their future so I can’t judge on that but I truly wish their had been some adult intervention.
You can't play and or get a scholarship if you are dead or seriously injured.
And yet, some Politicians and parents are "WORRIED ABOUT CRT..." 😪

Based on what I’ve seen in comments and video, it seems that this school should not be allowed to participate in any sporting events with other schools until their “investigation “ is concluded, the racist students expelled, the principal and coach terminated for obvious lack of leadership, and the school superintendent apologize publicly.
I would say we should have them on extended suspension instead just expelling them everybody needs education otherwise stuff like this is going to keep happening but it's just the issue where those guys are going to school that they don't teach those type of subjects within racism and sexism which is kind of weird because isn't that a high school? Like wtf

The adults in the room! Coaches, referees, teachers, parents…are the ones that should be ashamed. When administrators say they “didn’t know” that’s bull💩. Also, why don’t the visiting coaches stop the game? I would take my team and walk out of that “unfriendly “ community!
Every administrator, coach, and teacher that attended this school's home basketball games should be fired. If you have been seeing this kind of behavior for 10 years and did nothing. You are part of the problem.
Everyone that speaks English may share responsibility. I've searched for ANY LOVE SONG in English to non-white skin. Can't find one, in spite of Jamaica, Belise, India, Australia, etc. Scary. Spanish uses skin color nicknames as terms of endearment regardless of the recipient's skin shade, so it occurs in many love songs.
I came to America in 1976, and had to attend a public high-school for my senior year. I was brutally mocked,bullied, tantalized, I cried in a bathroom stall the whole time I was there! After graduating, I let go! I NEVER want anything to do with them! So disappointed that such things are normalized in this society.

I grew up with this. I allowed it to fuel me to success on the football field. Turn the hate into your motivation. Whenever I did something big on the field, it was my retribution. I am disappointed in the coach. I would have stopped the game and address the situation right there in the court. I am not waiting after no fucking game to discuss shit!
If I’m a basketball coach in that area my team will not being playing that team we’re not gonna put up with it.

Time to ban their school from participating in NYSPHSAA events.
The ref should have stopped the game and call out the coach to address the problem. The game officials and the NY state school board should be called out. This has been going on to long.
Back in the 70’s our whole team rushed the stands and started swinging on anything that moved. No more problems after that…problem solved.

When I was in high school when that behavior occurred, people were identified, masked got put on, azzes were seriously kicked (sometime weeks later), and guess what ? The BS stopped. Vigilante justice works.

Black people we have to send messages. Go to town river and have a major protest. Get the refs fired and the the town river coach fired. Shine a light on the town so everyone can see.

These school districts need to ban fans from attending the games or ban teams from participating. If there were serious consequences; it might deter fans and students from these racist taunts.
Stop play immediately. Do not allow the game to resume until the offending parties are found. Forcibly remove those who did it. Expel them. Fine the parents. Repeat offenses means the school forfeites all games, including retroactively.

Cancel all home basketball games at Pearl River High School for a couple of years. Rest assured, the kids will eventually get the message and take steps to discourage racism during games.

Played D1 ball at a private white college for 4 years, played pro basketball for 10 years in different countries. Never was I ever called a N word or a monkey.

If I was the Nyack Coach I would have called a timeout. Told the ref if they weren't going to do something about it, I'll pull all my players off the floor and will stop in protest. The kids don't deserve the harassment

If I was a referee,I would declare technical fouls on the crowd indefinitely until they stopped-let him keep shooting for points to stop this and still punish the offenders severely!!
I've refed a few seasons, and I would throw a T, and have thrown a T,, on fans doing stupid shit. I call a T, ask for whoever is In charge at that site/school, explain the situation, and have the unruly fan/fans removed, before play could resume.
Kids repeat what they hear at home and from the friends they be with. If this has been going on for ten years then those in higher up positions need to be fired.

The people making the noises are not the “real” problem. It’s two other types of people. First, It’s the students and parents that sit next to these people and say nothing. They don’t even report them, then claim they are not racist. Secondly, it’s that one black dude that proclaims, “I am black so I don’t think racism exists”, which in turn allows people to continue with their racist behavior.

The coach for the home team should have stopped the game and made an announcement to the crowd that if this behavior continues we will forfeit the game. We will not tolerate racism and ignorance.

This hasn't just started the real problem is that you have school employees , other parents and bystanders act as though they done hear it therefore nothing is done about it. We won't even speak about the referees that's supposed to stop play and offer a warning to whomever is doing it which basically means supposedly educated adults are stopping it .

My sister is a high-school basketball coach and she tells me that the refs don't call all games the same. If her team is playing a predominantly white team they often call extra fouls on her girls! My sister's team is all black!
It’s been like that forever. That’s the fuel. That a why they have to play harder. I remember this in little league playing all white teams. We took it out on the little boys. FootballZ.

This happened to me as an Indian-American high school basketball player from 1984-86. What is worse is that it came from my teammates.
This has been happening for ten years at Pearl River and the adminitration has not figure out they need a staff member to sit with the students. How Ignorant is this adminitration?

Pearl River, N.Y., Salem Hills, Utah, and possibly other schools need to step up their social studies education.
We were shot at during a JV game because we were Indigineous in a small town called Sioux Valley. We were varsity getting gum at a local conveint store and were told we dont belong and shot guns were fired at us. We still won as a native school. Something i keep and something a 16 year old shouldnt go through. What an experience huh..?
