    Good tips, I've watched every Ulmer video I can find on UA-cam he has good practical advice as well.

      Randy is the man. I believe he is the best bowhunter who ever lived. Not nearly enough people east of the mountain states have any idea what he has done and how he has done it. I used to ghost write all Randy's articles (for 9 years - he writes all his own stuff now) so I was interviewing him every month about shooting and hunting. Wow, what a privilege that was. I need to do a series of episodes from Randy on how to shoot a bow. Would be like interviewing Jack Nicklaus about how to hit a golf ball. Have a great day.

    Thanks Bill for another informative video! I have discovered that when wearing gloves to shoot,my hands and fingers aren't hyper sensitive which really helps my accuracy. God bless and keep the videos coming!!

      Thanks for the comment Jared. I think there are several good reasons to wear gloves when shooting during the off-season. Another one is getting used to (staying used to) shooting with gloves on since that is what I will be doing during the season. Have a great day.

    Bill you are absolutely spot on with your advice for shooting at "game". I've been a seriously obsessed whitetail bow hunter since 1970 and I make my best shots when I watch the arrow to the target as if looking thru the peep, and hold my bow arm as rigid as a tree limb until the arrow strikes. I practice on my backyard range the same way until muscle memory controls the shot process. Thank you again for your videos and solid advice .

      Yes, they make several styles to match different tastes in trigger tension and trigger travel. If you have specific goals you should contact them first to get the perfect model for you. Good luck. b3archery.com/

    Great tips Bill. If you don’t mind, what is the anchor point relationship between your hand and your face?
    I have big hands and I have been playing around with different hand to face contact points to see which is more consistent for me. It is amazing how small things make a huge difference.

      Thanks for the comment. I press the big knuckle of my index finger against the back of the point of my jawbone. You have to be looking straight forward with your face/head or the string and arrow nock will press into your face and cause inconsistent shooting. I am not sure that is the best anchor point for most people, but it is the way I have shot for a really long time, so I am not going to consider changing - it would be really hard to change after so many years because under pressure (when shooting at a deer) I will instinctively revert to this point.

      Some think floating the pin causes target panic..but for myself my best shots come from floating the pin ...not alot but within the point of aim...that to me is where the suprise release of the shot comes from... if practiced respectfully it's lights out for whitetails...anyways great video..and good luck this season

      William, on paying more attention to this while shooting this afternoon, I actually anchor with the large knuckle of the index finger pressed into the gap between the cheekbone and the ear. It is not as far back or as low as I had thought. Still, it is the one I have used for 30+ years.

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  18 днів тому

      @@wolvesnight Agree, floating the pin very slightly and making a surprise release are the ideal way to shoot a bow, in my experience. Good luck.

    So very important to practice with your glove on and how it affects your release wrist strap. You have to practice with a glove on if you hunt with a glove on. it completely changes your writs release location and what hole you use.

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  16 днів тому

      Agreed Mike. I started doing it about 25 years ago and wouldn't know what it feels like to shoot without one. Have a great day.

      Thanks for the comment Bryan. I agree, it is a good step for a couple of reasons - reduces bowhand torque on the bow and gets you used to shooting with a glove so it is no big deal during the season. Have a great day.

      Tanner, it is the B3 Exact Hunter. I just did a review of that sight on the channel. Look in the Setup playlist for that to come up very soon. Here it is: b3archery.com/product-category/sights/ You can get 15% off at checkout using the code: B3WINKE. Have a great day.

    I noticed your arrows are cut pretty much right to the rest. Do you run the same length when shooting broad heads?

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  3 дні тому

      I do. They are about 1/2 inch ahead of the rest, roughly. Maybe a bit less.

    Its so dang hard to trust the float!😅 I always want to force that pin on the spot!

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  17 днів тому

      I know. That is probably the biggest part of my pre-season practice - just getting mentally comfortable with letting it float. The other thing that helps me is to focus on the spot I want to hit and not the pin. When I do that, I don't try to control the pin as much. It does work really well though and the more you do it, the easier it gets. Good luck.

    I absolutely hate wearing gloves. It gives me stress just watching you shoot with gloves on lol.

    • @bill-winke
      @bill-winke  18 днів тому +1

      I like to let the bow grip have the ability to slip around and find the torque-free spot in my hand. If I shoot without gloves on the friction between my hand and the grip tends to over control the bow and I get some built up torque in the hand if the bow tries to turn slightly when drawing. With gloves on it just slips in my hand. Also, I wear gloves when I hunt (this same cheap jersey style) so it just makes sense to me to practice in them too.
