The Plan: Jordan vs The Jordan Buck - The Slow Squeeze | Bowhunting Whitetails w/ Bill Winke

- Yesterday, Jordan and I went through last year's behavior of the buck we call The Jordan Buck. We believe he is still on the farm and what we learned about him last year will give us a great starting point for coming up with a plan to hunt him this year. Rather than me talk about what how I would hunt him, I let Jordan take a cut at it first. She discusses her thoughts and then I follow-up with mine. If we don't spook this buck, I think we can kill him this year. Assuming he is still here. We will know pretty soon as it is getting to be time to get the cameras out.

Hurry up and get those cameras up for us 😂! I think this is going to be a good year for you guys! We're rooting for you, Jordan! Bill's shot his share of giant bucks. Time to get yours. 😅
Thanks for the comment. Yes, from all the people I have talked to around the state, it seems that there are a lot of big deer this year. Should be interesting. We appreciate the support. Have a great day.
I love bills smile when Jordan breaks out the drawing! I love it! What a cool relationship you guys have. I also have a daughter that loves to hunt so this makes me smile ! I can’t wait to start seeing the game cam pics
We do have fun. Thanks Ryan for the comment and good luck to you and your daughter this fall.
@@bill-winke that’s what it’s all about. Making those memories and having fun together! I sure appreciate it Bill. Thanks for the good luck wishes. I hope Jordan gets the “Jordan Buck” this year!
I hope everyone is paying attention!! Bill is giving/teaching his daughter his 200 years of hunting experience!😂 But for real Bill and Jordan, thanks for taking us along!! You are helping a lot of new hunters and even us that have been hunting along time that aren’t experts!
Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate it and the nice words. Have a great day.
Bill, she’s the spitting image of you. I’ve got a Jordan, son first born, he’s a big time hunter!!
That is awesome Mark. I appreciate the comment and support and wish you both good luck this fall.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride Jordan and Bill. Good luck Jordan, looking forward to watching your hunting season play out.
Thanks Art. We appreciate your support and your comment. Have a great day.
I think it’s fun watching Jordan as a novice hunter and learning all the tricks and trades of becoming a seasoned deer hunter. Excited to see her 5 or 6 years down the road once she’s learned more and slaying giants along side of you.
Thanks Donald. I am looking forward to that also. Have a great day.
Bill I love how you got Jordans wheels turning. Hope you get to feeling better! Thanks for putting out content even when you are feeling crappy shows your great work ethic and drive!
Thanks for the comment Chris. We appreciate it. I hope you have a great day and good luck this fall.
I really like the way you label your maps makes everything make sense. Season is right around the corner, and I can't wait!
Thanks for the comment Jason. Much appreciated. Have a great day.
You got this, Jordan. Girl power! Can't wait to see this journey unfold!
Thanks for the comment Shawn. Much appreciated.
Another fun episode. Great work Jordan Hope Bill is feeling better bye now. The suspense is gonna kill us once you start hunting him and putting the vids out.
I sure hope we can at least find him to see what he looks like this year. That is the mission now - find him back. I believe he is still here, but until we peg him on the cameras, you never know for sure. Have a great day and thanks for the comment and the support.
Awesome video again Bill and Jordan !! The season is almost here and I have 5 shooters it's starting to get exciting !!
Brian, you are sitting in a great spot. I will be interested to know how many of those bucks stick around your hunting spots after they shed velvet and disperse to fall ranges. I hope it is still five, but either way, it should be at least two or three. Good luck.
This is going to be a fun fall to follow along. Hopefully the Jordan buck is around, get those cams up! Going to be super fun following along in this one and watching the cat & mouse game
I will have to lean towards what your dad is thinking You don't want to ruin the rest of your future hunting and being patient I can't wait for Jordan to get a beautiful buck I'm rooting for you
Thanks for the comment. Yes, KI have learned the hard way that often patience is the very best approach. Hang back and keep learning until the right time, then make the move. Have a great day and good luck this fall.
Man I got a feeling his days are numbered, spot number 1 is the spot I picked, loves this breakdown cool to see how to approach things good luck on the Jordan buck
I really like that spot too Scott. We just need to be patient and wait until the time is right so we aren't putting him off his normal routine before he starts doing it in daylight. Time will tell. Have a great day.
When Jordan starts talking about what’s next after the Jordan buck then she’s pretty focused and excited id say, haha..
That is getting a little ahead of ourselves, but it shows she believes it can be done. Have a great day.
Stand site #1 or #2. Identify those Bur Oaks dropping and hunt on a good cold front towards the end of October when conditions are right. I like the entrance/exit there as well. Best of luck Jordan. Buckle up your in for a fun ride. Bill, take some meds and get rest! It’s a long season, lol.
Steven, I have noticed that the bur oaks are really dropping now on the farm and the deer are on them. Will be interesting to see what is going on as we get closer to opening day. Good luck.
Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds!
We are too Robb. Should be a fun season. Good luck.
Love y’all so much ❤
Thanks for the support. I grew up watching Dan's videos! I hope you are doing well and having a great day. Good luck.
Hope you get to feeling better soon and sounds like y'all have a plan, hope to see it work out 👍👍
Thanks Chuck. Much appreciated. Feeling a lot better. It was a rough four days of fever, but definitely on the mend now. Have a great day.
Good plan and good luck! I was thinking the apple line to start and you eventually said it. I seen many bucks on apples. I think you will catch him there early!🤞
I think so too. Plus there is that pond in that direction too.
Bill and Jordan, i would consider a stand in between the the two ridges going down to the scrape tree, not very far into the timber for clean entry and exit, morning hunts for rising thermals could pay off
Ryan, that is a very good choice. Could hunt that on a southerly wind and get in and out clean from the cornfield on top. Good thought. Thanks for the comment and the support. Have a great day and good luck this season.
OK I am calling #1 stand on Oct. 27th lol, it will be a fun season to watch with yall
That is a pretty good guess. I would have guessed October 29 myself.
@@bill-winke I think you might be right, I hope so. Either way it is always enjoyable to be out in God's creation with those we love. Like I always say to my family, you shoot what you will be happy with and don't worry about anyone else, the trophy is the time we spend together more then antlers on a wall.
C1 on a W or SW wind with thermals rising on a morning hunt between 10/20-30. High odds - low risk, with a stand 20 yards to the SE of that scrape. I’ll shake on $500 😆🏹 get him. Good luck!
I really like C1 also. I agree - it is the lowest odds, best option on the farm right now. I think your timing is also very good. I think you have this one pegged Javin!
Good info guys, sounds like good plan!
Thanks for the comment and the support. Have a great day.
I'm seeing the cart pulling the horse here! Hopefully he shows when you get cameras out - he's going to be a monster this year with all the rainfall.
It is time for me to be in the cart getting pulled! I am ready. Take it away!
However beautiful your property is the difficulty of ingress and egress is apparent. Good luck this year. WE WILL BE WATCHING! lol
Thanks. We appreciate the comment and the support.
Good stuff!!
Thanks for the comment. We appreciate it. Have a great day.
I think the ridge with stands 1.2.3 are your best chances they love those high ridges.
Agree. Ridge stands are always a good choice, especially as the rut nears.
dont forget Ol Ted MIller and his horizontal rubs. stick one of those by a stand or two. Boom, Plan A
That's good advice. Thanks Mike. Have a great day.
I’d hunt between the apples and new plot in the mornings. Between the apples and the scrape tree in the bottoms in the evening. All depending on the winds and access.
I do like that approach. I have been spying out a few trees along that edge that look to be winners. If we get him on camera heading in that direction (at the second open gate site) we will start to consider that edge. Thanks for the comment. Have a great day.
I still like what I would call the rut funnel between the bedding point and the scrape point. Setting up on a south wind on that trail seems to be a killer spot. Hard to tell without being there. I also wonder how you get out of there after dusk without educating deer and potentially the Jordan buck.
The getting out part is always a concern and why I really like the fringe stands until I am pretty sure the buck I am hunting is moving at least some in daylight. You hate to take the risk of educating deer by pressing in to your best spots if the target is still moving mostly after dark. Good input.
So Bill I have a question? I need some expert advice.. I have noticed something that has happened and I don't think others have caught on to this phenomenon. All my years hunting I have never seen so many does and fawns. Not just regular fawns no spots 3 months old in August. Spots and 1 month old in August. Now just a couple days ago I watched a 2 year old in full velvet chase a mature doe and 2 fawns no spots. Trying to jump on (breed) the doe. I believe this is a sign of a rut in the middle of September. I live in Michigan and the crop to rain ratio is perfect if you ask me. I think rattling and grunting on opener October 1st is going to pay off tremendously. Any thoughts on changing seasons.
I would put little credibility in what a two year old buck does. That is like a 16 year old boy - way too much unbridled testosterone to trust their judgment around girls! I am not sure what to make of the age difference in the fawns. Some of them were born to doe fawns that were bred at age 1/2 years old. They might have been bred a month or even two after the adult does. Also, a high population of does would also create a phenomenon where some would be bred a month or two after the others. Finally, there are a few does that come into estrus as early as mid-October (very few) but it does happen. I have not heard of any studies suggesting that in Michigan there is any breeding prior to mid-October at the very earliest. I will see what I can learn by keeping my ears open on this topic, but that 2 year old would not influence my thinking at all. That is not to say that a little rattling won't work on opening day - I see bucks sparring all the time in October - but I would not assume there is any breeding going on. Good luck.
They are a renewal resource😊
Exactly.
Thanks for the plan, curious how many acres is your farm? Im sure you have said before, i prob just missed it.
Total is 625 acres. Some is also owned by other family members.
Any idea or guess on the age of the Jordan Buck? Them older bucks might not move as much until the Rut starts in your area/property. Old bucks are just like old men, they don't wanna have to walk around and move as much.
That is a good one Clay. I hear you. I am pretty sure he is 5 years old this year. Thanks for the comment.
Maybe I missed the episode but, you guys havnt talked much about the water availability on the farm.
We have 12 ponds on the farm left over from the cattle pasturing here for so many years. So there is water in most parts of the farm. I they hit the water sources but there are a lot of them to choose from. Something to keep in mind though.
Good Luck Jordan pressures on but not really.
Thanks Keith. We appreciate the support and the comment.
Laye Muzzle loading season. Either by apples , cor or sorghum
Yes, deadly - but that kind of goes against our mission of bowhunting - we could change the name of the series to "Mostly Bowhunting Whitetails".
@@bill-winke lol! That's good 👍. I like the determination of it. My 5 yr old daughter likes watching videos of her hunting.
Awesome . Always good information to learn from . Just wondering, as a low poundage short draw bow hunter (75 years young), if you can say , what draw length and poundage do you hunt with , Jordan ?
I think she is at roughly 26.5 inches and 40 pounds. But I will need to verify that. She was having trouble with her shoulder last season and one evening I was filming her when a doe came in. Her shoulder hurt too much to draw so I shot the doe with Jordan's bow. Hit it in the shoulder with the Destrukt broadhead. Broke her leg and killed her dead in seconds. I became a believer in that broadhead right then.
@@bill-winke Thanks for your reply.
Jordan good luck this season. Try not to show up your dad too much.
That's what I am afraid of. Thanks for the comment!
U don't look well bill. Take some time off and heal. Better days comin. God bless.
I think it was covid. I am sure I had a fever for four days. Feeling a lot better now.
Pull a trailer blind to the north of the open gate and let Jordan kill the Jordan buck on the first south wind of the season. 👍🏻🦌👏🏻
That is actually a very, very good plan. She and I actually discussed that. The wind blows into the standing corn and you sneak in and out using the standing corn. Blind goes right at the corner of the corn, sorghum and beans. I think I will get the blind backed in there this week. Let them get used to it.
Jordan is gonna kill you if opening day that buck walks through that open gate!
Yes. I think you are right about that.
Why aren’t you running cameras? especially as a content creator. how do you know what bucks are even on your property if they don’t spend all there time there
I will start in a couple of weeks. I always wait until after the summer to fall range shift has taken place to find them. There is no use spending a lot of time finding bucks that won't even be here after they disperse from their summer ranges. A couple of weeks from now will be soon enough.
Anyone from Danbury Wisconsin freak out about the name yet?
No, not yet. That giant statue of the buck is really cool!
@@bill-winke I hope they don't, it's too cool of a story for her! Good luck
Baby girl, you should try public land.
Why?
@@bill-winke why not. Iowa's got great chance at giants on public. And build her independence. It's great to rely on dad too, but maybe can break away from that. Mobile hunting, different ball game. Competition with other people, different skills, everything.
@@sureguy8124 I am thinking you might be missing the point of why she is hunting. Sometimes it is not about all that but spending time with family in the tree together.
Yeah, that’s about as crazy as refusing to drive anywhere when your dad owns a car dealership. Brah, she has her whole life to do her thing, she has no idea how long she has with this living legend. Not to mention she is constantly learning how to set up a property and hunt it.
Stupid comment.
She clearly enjoys the relationship with her father, learning from him and helping to develop their new family farm.
If she wanted “ independence” when hunting she would seek it on her own, even without jerks like you trying to belittle her efforts.
