Francis Taylor you hardly stole it. Unless a dodgy politician making promises he can’t commit to, and being removed from office for fraud leading to many contracts being void, F1 being one of them. Melbourne sucks tbh. To me it reeks of “hey let’s do what Canada did” bring back tight street tracks
Dylan Zrim You’ve been on every comment talking shit about Daniel Andrews and how “Melbourne sucks hurr durr” lmao, let your hair down and stop being angry for fucks sake
I was gutted when Adelaide was taken off the F1 calendar. We had some great races there, and it usually produced some drama. My favourite was "Our David" binning it on the pit lane entry. Priceless.......
That incident contains one of my favourite Murray Walker commentary moments: ua-cam.com/video/jr1DXYKX8ZU/v-deo.html "...and into the pit lan- AUGH!" - Murray Walker, 1995
Schumacher was actually the first to win back to back in the same country in 1995. The Pacific and Japanese Grand Prix held a week apart both in Japan.
However, the Pacific and Japanese races were different races, one being the Pacific Grand Prix, the other being the Japanese Grand Prix. Same country, different races. With Australia in 1995 and 1996 it was the same race, the Australian Grand Prix, just at different tracks.
I was at the stag hotel on the weekend of the Adelaide 500 a few years ago and some guy mentioned that if there was going to be a rebel F1 competition, that Ferrari were pushing for an Adelaide race. As someone old enough to have been to multiple races there, the atmosphere was off the charts. Adelaide really did come alive.
Never seen racing at Adelaide, but judging from onboard footages of the time it was a great circuit, more akin to Montréal than to Monaco. I'd love F1 to return there.
I went there from WA in 1986 to 1988 and went back in 1993 and 1995. The viewing was a bit limited for spectators like most street tracks. With the current layout used for Supercars they would have to do something about turn 8.
I'd love to see this in reality! Still, if they did race in Adelaide again, the FIA would probably have to do major alterations to the circuit in one way or another.
QuinnyFM not hard to add a few garages and extend the exit of the pits to after the chicane, as for the track? It needs to be old GP track or longer. Anyone who thinks Adelaide is too tight and dangerous must really wonder how Azerbaijan is even running their track
@@brandy0438 There was a proposal of extending it further into Victoria Park post Lemans 2000, I also seen a map in Rfactor that extends the track out to North Terrace.. I watched at the Historics 4 years ago that Senna Chicane is still a shadow weaver of corners.
Good call but almost no one ourside of Adelaide would know anything about it. Look on google maps, 100km SE of Adelaide, find Tailem Bend then about 8 Km further SE. Best purpose built race track in the country bar none.
As an Aussie that lives in Melbourne, I’d love to see F1 return to Adelaide. Bring back the old GP layout, use different curbs, and you’re almost set. Could be a great alternative considering Melbourne is a hotspot of “that boy” while most of Australia is fine.
Really enjoying the series. My one add is that seeing the comparison of what the older cars were like versus the 2020 cars is fun on former f1 circuits
I don't see this as any worse a track than Monaco (it's actually wider). Thanks for the memories - and for making me feel old! In 96, I had number 4 kiddo... I remember there being some serious mutterings in the UK about losing Adelaide and changing it to the first race of the year. You can tell we were annoyed, the mutterings actually got quite loud. Great fastest lap, btw. I've taken to staring at the track rather than the HUD. It's way more realistic if you do that. Much as I still don't feel the appeal of sim racing, I do enjoy your various demonstrations. I guess it's because I'm learning something. Whatever the reason, thank you!
They probably could. It’s a street track so the FIA could change the barriers, suggest new layout changes etc. Because it hasn’t hosted F1 for years, the organisers don’t need to keep it to the highest standard. But since the pit buildings and grandstands are all temporary, they could easily be modified and made bigger too to keep up with the demands of F1.
Schumacher won Pacific (AIDA) and Japan (Suzuka) back to back - not the same grand prix, but the same country in 1995. Immediately before Hill won his Aussie double.
That final lap was epic. It would be awesome to see F1 return. I love watching the supercars fly through the chicanes and how close they come to the wall at turn 8.
The first Adelaide Grand Prix was the first I ever went to. The modular track walls used every where now were ground breaking as every where else it was just wire fences that journalists cut so they could get decent pictures. Drivers loved the track, it was just that the run off at the end of the main straight was too short! Organizers promised to do what they could to make it longer before practice, the next morning it was the longest run off on the track. I have always believed that was a deliberate ploy to show off what was possible
Ive literally been wondering if I could get the ball rolling on an Adelaide GP for 2020. I grew up hearing the race from my home. And I work about a 5 minute walk from the track. Why not this year! seeing as Melbourbe nicked it anyway, it would be a nice condolance
To be honest with the way COVID is making its way back through the country, i doubt it. But man id love to see F1 return to Adelaide. Mabye swing a shot for a night race and bring back the Pacific GP.
I live in Adelaide, have done my whole life including the GP years of 1985-1995. Unfortunately, the way the track was back in the day can't actually be again. It can be almost the same, but not the same. You see, what was Banana Bend back in the day (turns 7 and 8 before Stag Turn) has actually been moved. The S bend itself is approximately 50 metres closer to what was (is still since that part of the track is used by Supercars) turn 6 than it was back in the GP days.
It was one of the few decent street circuits. Had a great flow to it - those tight 90 degree corners in the first sector, then that fast curve on the fast Brabham straight - where cars had a decent chance to overtake. It's such a shame it is gone from the F1 calendar.
Interesting note, if they were to use the old F1 circuit the road at turns 7 & 8 has changed slightly to accomodate a bus tunnel, so it wouldn’t be exactly the same
Adelaide resident. It could be easily done. 3/4 of the circuit is still used for V8 Supercars anyway and hasn't really changed since 1995. The extended part down East Tce to Rundle Rd is basically unchanged. It would require a median strip to be lifted out of the road. That said, The Bend circuit was built to be able to host F1. It would be there.
If I have my way, the Adelaide 500 would be moved to latter on in the year, and use the longer version of this track. As part of it the Adelaide 500 will be a part of a 10 day long motor show. Where the first Friday, Saterday, and Sunday will be used for the Supercars. Monday through to Thursday would be used for Track days for ammeters race drivers race on the track. a round of the Australian LeMons series, and long with automakers to show off new cars that are going to come on to the markets. That will happen between 10AM to 4PM. Then the last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be used for the F1's. And while Melbourne still host the Australian F1GP, this round will be billed as the Pacific F1GP, and it would be the last race of the year. In if the contractual frame work would be agreed on. Doing so there would be leave room for the Supercars long with the F1 can race here while not stepping on each commercial rights stake holders.
I think there is more chance of Tailem Bend getting it than the clipsal track. Just a feeling. I'd prefer Adelaide, but 1min laps will probably be frowned upon -shrug-
I don’t get it when people say Hill was the first to win 2 Grand Prix in the same country consecutively, the previous 2 Grand Prix before Australia 1995 were both in Japan (Pacific & Japanese GP) and were both won by Schumacher
Thanks for another great video Aidan. This one means a lot to people like me from Adelaide who fell in love with Formula One because of the Grand Prix. To see others appreciate the circuit/race is nice. Right now it’s sad to see our corrupt government cancel and attempt to kill the Adelaide 500 V8 Supercars, which are important for the economy and continuing the strong Motorsport heritage of South Australia. If you’re not aware I think the infrastructure for the circuit has been sold already and there has been a very silent redevelopment of Victoria Park into wetlands. Most of this has been done in the name of COVID despite allowing AFL, the Fringe Festival and other events to go ahead 🤦🏻♂️
This was interesting, you were right about the track being not as wide. I think it could work but it would be a very tight track since as mentioned the track was reporfiled for Super car series which don't need the wider tracks.
Michael Schumacher actually beat Damon Hill to that achievement by winning the Pacific and Japanese GPs (held at Aida and Suzuka) in 1995, which were the funnily the two race that came before Adelaide that year
I'd really like to see you try Potrero de los Funes in Argentina. It's basically South America's answer to Bathurst - long, fast, flowing and technical, with plenty of elevation changes. And it runs around a lake, which I think is cool. It's currently an FIA Grade 2 circuit and it hosted a round of the FIA GT1 championship a couple of years back, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have been used for international events since.
The entire track is still there, curbs and all. Its used annually for the Supercar series so pending any updates for FIA safety ratings a double Australian GP in Adelaide then Melbourne isnt impossible. But... Its also pretty much impossible. haha
Don't mind me asking, but where do you get your music from! I've loved the smooth jazz vibes, and I wanted to learn how to play some jazz piano. Yours seemed easy enough to start with. So, could you tell me the names of the songs? Specifically the one at the end, in your outro? Thanks!
The commentators mentioned today that Michael Schumacher was the last driver to win back to back races in the same country. It was Aida and Suzuka in Japan

that first chicane not even having a breaking point in this spec of car is why f1 won't ever be back at adelaide lol. that among other things, but that is the most eye catching for sure.
Mate, the supercar track cut out the 2 best corners on the track. If you wanted to make a valid argument for Adelaide you need to race on the GP layout. You can drive the original layout on rFactor 2.
I was there for both. Getting in about of Aida was interesting. The only way was for a bus/coach. The trip back from the race was in a school bus, it was a tight squeeze with little leg room. Great race and the food was something else.
This would be a great track for IndyCar to race here. I wish the CART World Series was still a thing b/c I would take out a mortgage just to see the sexy ChampCar with 850bhp racing around the streets of Adelaide.
Great Content. I would really like ti see a video of 2020 F1 Cars round Leguna Seca (especially that one Corner). And just for fun some obviously ridicoulous tracks like Macau or Norisring.
I saw the Le mans race in 2000 in Adelaide it was awesome. I was at the chicane. I think it was even better than watching the f1, just because range classes. Love to see F1 there again.
Adelaide technically has only ever had one active layout. The layout that the v8's use now didn't ever exist until 1999, 4 years after f1 had left. Also Monaco has two layouts. The one used by f1 and the one used by formula E.
Fun fact williams won the first and last race at this track

Long Beach has about 4/5 layouts
Adelaide technically has only ever had one active layout. The layout that the v8's use now didn't ever exist until 1999, 4 years after f1 had left.
Also Monaco has two layouts. The one used by f1 and the one used by formula E.
