I was just informed about this review. Thank you the honest review. It’s great to get unbiased feedback. I’m always happy to discuss the intent of all of these choices in my programs. Regardless, thanks for taking the time to review the program.
Would have loved to see you review the other training tracks we have, specifically the PUMP Lift and Condition tracks. The Perform track you reviewed is most similar to how we trained for CrossFit sport where we often times had to lift on the heels of conditioning work. It’s a CrossFit biased design. Love your commentary on the steady state cardio day.

Love it man. I know from previous experience doing FBB and going through OPEX, he sort of uses it as what he calls a “Hot Start”. I believe it’s his version of raising core temp and prepping the CNS.
Got it. I can see that, but it will without a doubt take away from the strength work. A better strategy would be to use some plyometric work before the heavy strength work that way you drive the SNS without inducing fatigue.
@@jasonbrowncoaching that’s what I do these days is simple explosive prep, whether it’s using med balls, jumps, hops etc. The Hot starts I never really favored.
@@garrettbell2527 just talked to Marcus and this stream of programming is for higher level CrossFit athletes so doing strength work potentially pre-fatigued (or for some with higher levels of capacity more warmed up) makes a lot sense!
Great breakdown! With this kind of CrossFit style conditioning heavy programming combined with strength, it is very important to mix exercise order, so the mind becomes accustomed to pre-fatigued heavy lifting. You're building awareness of rep ranges and limits, and what that feels like in different states. Lifting fresh is best for absolute strength, but not necessarily fitness. Similarly, you would not always want to do your conditioning pieces fresh.
@@jasonbrowncoaching I get that. On the days with conditioning before strength training, I normally perform them at an easy-moderate pace with light weight. Just to get additional warmup before the heavier lifts. I would imagine that’s his intention behind it. Also love the review. 🤘🏻

Hey Jason, great review. I'm a big fan of Marcus' content and some of his programming (running his Basecamp program currently as I return to training after a long lay-off/surgery). It seems to me he is placing the burpee/snatch/ohs complex on day 2 before the sumo DL work and that actually makes sense from the perspective of doing your explosive work before doing your strength work which in the case of oly lifting is often supplemental and thus placed after variations of the main lifts (snatch/c&j).
Right, but that's not explosive work. It's a conditioning piece. Explosive work would take 3-7 seconds to complete and would be accomplished with plyometrics.
Love the review. For anyone who has questions about the reasons behind the order of lifts in Filly’s programs, I think he talks about it in depth in this interview with High Intensity Health. I love Filly’s programs and different tracks. ua-cam.com/video/hgDi45CUxH8/v-deo.htmlsi=PpbE4x1YSIRwCI6Y
I actually really like how. Marcus Philly programs like a CNS activation before every workout. I find that it helps activate the muscles and fires up my system and allows me to lift heavier and smoother opposed to putting it at the end

I'd love to see a review of the pump condition. I think it 'fixes' the order issue.
Yes, would be awesome!
long time user of persist, Marcus is a damn genius!
Solid program, but the conditioning work before the heavy strength work doesn't make a ton sense IMO.

Great review! Have you heard of Alex Bromley? I think his Kong program is amazing, and I’m curious about your thoughts.
I left you for Marcus. 😅 I like his more knee friendly style in pillars

I understand the intent, but the window for CNS prep is small, usually 3-8 minutes. This phenomenon is called activation potentiation.
@@jasonbrowncoaching but with that being said, I have been currently following your evolve program and I absolutely love it!!
