Very useful tips, thank you, Charles. So many others say to do the water first and add the reflections while it is still wet, but I suppose it depends on the effect you want, but I like this technique better than any others I've seen. Thank you for always replying, to our comments, it really shows you as a genuine and thoughtful person who cares about your subscribers.
Your videos are inspirational, even for seasoned old painters like me. When I was younger I'd do a painting for someone...a cityscape or something...next thing their friend would ask for one too " I like the one you did for her - just like that one !.." then you have to think about drawing and painting it all over again exactly the same !....mind numbing !...as I got older I learned how to say " no " ..
As always your videos are so beautiful and your tutorials are easy to follow. I did the one with the rocks and the boat with man in red shirt. But I left the boat out. Everyone loved it. Thank you. I appreciate all the tips you explain everything very well
Thank you so much for your videos, I do have all your books, but as a visual learner these are a great help. Providing these videos on UA-cam whilst during lockdown, is marvellous. You keep us motivated and stop boredom setting in.
I love those clouds! I hope one day I will be able to make them in one go. Thank you for the inspiration, for sure I missed when your book came out. I will get it in the near future. Have a safe and healthy rest of the time until everyone can run to the ocean.
Just inspirational!!!! So wonderful to see the detailed practical colour application. Definitely want ALL the books & those useful traceable outlines as a further resource to speed the process. Brilliant!!!!
Love your teaching, just ordered some of your paint and brushes...now I will try my hand at water color, I'm only 88 years old so I better learn quick. Thank you again for these lessons.
That was bloody brilliant . Simple and lovely. I don't have "sand" so I improvised. Not an exact copy but close enough. Woohoo. Oh that was fun! Thank you, thank you, thank you.🤩🤩🤩
Hi Charles from Ireland I have watched you for years, Love your work thanks so much for doing this at this time, I have a lot of your books and tapes of your TV shows you did, so inspiring, keep up the great videos, stay well, 🍀🍀🍀
thank you so much!! love the real time water lesson and of course all of your helpful teachings… thank you so much!! would love to see anything you have been working on too in your next video!
Great videos Charles, I've seen so many of them over the years. Speaking of beach bouys, I feel a song coming on - 'I'm picking up good reflections, you're giving me great art lessons, oom pa pa.....' . Keep up the good work.
I’ve only just found you during lockdown, and I’m so glad I did. So, so informative, easy to follow and you completely de-mystify watercolour, making it actually look achievable. Thankyou! Just one thing - we’re from ‘up north’, where grass is grass and sounds like ass not arse. Let the ‘southerners’ work it out. ☺️☺️☺️
Hi charles good to see you again ,doing another fine no nonsense painting you get what it says on the can with you ,take care keep on painting ,havent done much lately got into metal detecting lol ,but as soon as i see you i wanna get me brushes out ,i did a session with you years ago at patchings , ive never forgot ,was a great weekend ,Ant from Wales you can see me on my channel doing all sorts ,maybe i ought to put me doing a painting ,May be not .ha ! watch out with this virus .
I am new to your channel and am enjoying your teaching very much. I do wish your volume could go a little louder though. I have my tablet up as high as it will go and I miss some words. But I will continue to watch and learn, no matter. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge freely. 💞
Lovely work! Charles, even Winser & Newton s Cotman student watercolor uses real pure pigments. The difference is that artist grade has a higher pigment load and is more transparent. Student grade does not use any real Cobalts or Cadmiums. But of course you know this already. Just in case your fallowers are curious. I love your work!
Charlie you’re Always a joy to watch painting 😍🤗 would you do a painting of Boulmer Beach I recently lost my father in law and it was the last place we stayed together for a Hol it was magical as Northumberland always is. Plus those amazing fish and chips at The Fishing Boat Inn 😍😍 would love to create a memory.
Wendy B So sorry for your loss. I lost my father and can empathize. It’s been a few years and days like today (My Dad’s Birthday) Can be difficult. I hope you find peace and revel in your memories. Watercolor is what kept me sane the last two years as I also lost my Mom to an overdose, my grandparents, 3 dear friends, my Mom in Law and best friend of 23 years and my sister just a few months ago. It’s been a lot but I stay positive, because it’s not good bye, it’s see you later. It’s great to have artists like The Amazing Charles Evans to help keep our minds busy. His videos have definitely been a Godsend for me. I wish you and yours good health and peace. All the best, Stacy
Stacy Hannon ohh Stacy that’s a hell of s lot to cope with my heart goes out to you. He’s a fab artist I had the joy of having a painting day with him whilst on holiday up there in 2014 and I treasure the memory of that day the results I got were mind blowing. Stay safe and well and keep painting 😘
Oh my giddy aunt. That was the easiest nicest sky ever! Gotta be fast tough, and just mish mashy the brush around. Be sure to clean the brush a couple times and Bam, Bob's your uncle , nice damn sky! Got a little staining over the hills but no matter, it will be ok. Thank YOU!!
I just received your book "Boats & Harbours in Watercolour". I'm in Montreal, Canada and it's difficult for me to find Daler-Rowney paints but I have the 8 basic colours that you use in other brands. As for your sand colour, I have Buff Titanium PW6:1. Could I mix it with a little burnt sienna or red iron oxide? What are the pigments in your sand colour. Thanks
I get the adrenalin but then have to take care of my 103 yr old mum but can i ask how do i prevent tape tearing paper? Love the calm way you paint I have watched more than painted .
Charles you say " don't change your blues" but James Fletcher Watson did all the time, to mix greens etc. It didn't seem to spoil any of his pictures? I'm not saying you're wrong but, maybe it's a thought?
Very useful tips, thank you, Charles. Charles Evans I need lots of improvement no one expects much from an old 64 year old lady who only started watercolor a year ago
Thank you so much for your videos, I do have all your books, but as a visual learner these are a great help. Providing these videos on UA-cam whilst during lockdown, is marvellous. You keep us motivated and stop boredom setting in.

It won’t be the next one, because the next one is going to be in acrylics, but I will yes.

Charles Evans ohhhh that’s so fabulous thanks sooo exciting. I shall try and do it justice 😘

Sounds like you’ve grasped it, well done.
Yay!
Is the langton paper you use the normal version or the 'Prestige' cotton version? Thx again.
Normal version.
Which paper are you using please?
Thank you.
Thank you very much.
I just received your book "Boats & Harbours in Watercolour". I'm in Montreal, Canada and it's difficult for me to find Daler-Rowney paints but I have the 8 basic colours that you use in other brands. I like your simple painting it’s my drawing let’s me down keep up the good work
Not much drawing on that one!
I get the adrenalin but then have to take care of my 103 yr old mum but can i ask how do i prevent tape tearing paper? Love the calm way you paint I have watched more than painted .
Always tear the tape off away from the painting. The bottom bit tear downward, etc.
@@charlesevans7706 thankyou appreciate you replying .
Thankiuu !
You’re welcome.
Thanks Charles. I must be concentrating too much on the painting part. Question: website name for books and such?
Hi it’s charlesevansart.com
Terrific video tku. But I wonder why you don’t clean your palette? How can you determine the colour you are mixing when using a dirty palette?
Because I always mix the various colours in the same places!
Charles Evans ok tku. (No offence meant!)
Tricia Shaw non taken.
Have you ever wet the water area and copied the above with paint and, while damp use a ‘flat’ brush and pull it down?
Yes!
Thank you for vefyvinsightful tutorial. But, I'd wish the lighting was in better shape though. Greetings from the new subscriber. 👍
Thank you too
do you paint on the sized or the other side ,forgive me i am self taught
On the paper I use, there is no wrong side, they’re both sized.
🖒🖒🖒
At 3:20, you said Daler Rowney introduced "natural pigment" into their student quality paint. What is "natural pigment" exactly?
Not synthetic!
Charles you say " don't change your blues" but James Fletcher Watson did all the time, to mix greens etc. It didn't seem to spoil any of his pictures? I'm not saying you're wrong but, maybe it's a thought?
So he did, yes! I’m not saying he was wrong, but I wouldn’t!
@@charlesevans7706 lol fair enough, great lesson on reflections btw
Thanks for making beggner video
You’re welcome.
