This is beautiful, Graham. Many thanks. I just subscribed to your channel. I always enjoy your wise and educated comments on our various UA-cam organ community channels. I'm a 66 year old organ student/assistant church organist/piano on the North Coast of California.
Thank you for watching and commenting. You certainly live in a beautiful part of the world. Several years ago my family were on holiday in California (my sister lives in Texas). We stayed in a beach house between Malibu and Oxnard. I can close my eyes and still see the North Pacific Ocean - magnificent!
Thanks! I’ve now listened and followed the score, several times. Not only is it pretty, there’s actually some very clever writing in the inner lines. Its well after midnight here in Oz, but I look forward to playing it later this week. Cheers!
It’s very interesting to compare the two pieces featuring the same carol side by side. At the end I forgot it was Guilmant’s piece. Really lovely. Thanks Graham!
If you wanted to put Guilmant to shame, well, you managed! Your arrangement is original, full of nice and interesting harmonic solutions, musically engaging and extremely pleasant to listen to. I am tempted to say that this is one of the best pieces you wrote, if not the best. Guilmant’s piece, played after yours, sounds like an utterly boring waffle. Bravo Graham, very very very well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Gosh, Paolo! I'm blushing! I think the Guilmant composition is in no way indicative of that great organist's abilities or output. He was clearly fascinated with the bagpipes (!) and his 'Noël Ecossais' was probably just a bit of fun, with his French tongue firmly in his cheek! I can imagine what Guilmant might have said about my attempts at composition! He would not have been as generous as you, for certain! "Sacrébleu ! Quel tas de vieux déchets. La musique de Monsieur Twist doit être classée immédiatement. . . à la poubelle !"
@@grahamtwist Pfff! Guilmant n'est certainement pas une grande étoile au firmament des compositeurs romantiques français... and in this case I think he drank a bagpipe full of boredom!!! 😂😂😂

I’m astonished! A beautiful composition, made and played with passion. You can hear the proud Scottish meander trough the musical landscape. Beautiful. And as a encore my beloved Guilmant. Wow. Is this a great way to end the day with a smile. Thanks Graham.
Thank you, Rien! Your profusion of fabulous recordings give me so much joy . . . so I felt I must at least try and get one upload for your every hundred. You are much too kind - but thank you! I love to try and write music for the people who enrich my life . . . so I think I'll have to create a piano composition for you. I sense you are a romantic, so I'll have to see what I can do!!

But I appreciate you watching. Merry Christmas and Happy Hogmanay!
Such a beautiful piece with these wonderful fade-ins of pictures from the Christmas story of the Bible. I'll email you so you can send me the sheet music. I will try it on my piano. Merry chrismas Graham.
I enjoyed your treatment and development of the carol Graham. What inspiration you have. Quite a pleasant contrast to the Guilmant which I've been playing for years but decided not to include in any service this year. [Too much music from which to select!] I not heard the fascinating tale about Guilmant, so thanks for your research.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting, Colin. I'm glad you know and play the Guilmant version, so I hope you don't object too much to my attempt with the same melody. As you remark, there's plenty of good music out there to select from and play . . . and by established composers, too!
Always nice to get to know a 'new' (for me) carol, and what better introduction than by a composition on this carol by Mr Twist himself? I really like how you combined the Scottish elements of this melody with the French romantic style. Bravo, Graham! I'm planning to look more into French romantic composers, I think Guilmant would be a great start, since Guilmant often uses elements of the French classical style, of which I'm more familiar with. But first things first: I have to buy a swell pedal ;)
You played this so beautiful lovely. Your melodies have their own power of their own (I hope the translator was right here... ?! sorry if not!). The origin: Sie haben das wunderschön gespielt. Ihre Melodien haben eine ganz eigene Kraft in sich. Thanks, and greetings from Munich!

Hi Graham. Thank you again for this recording. It was a pleasure to discover this Scottish Christmas song. I love both your and Guillmant's compositions. The Hereford's Cathedral sample set is a wondreful choice for these pieces as well! As always, great to hear you playing :)
Thank you so much, Alex. I started this composition over a year ago, so it was rather a long time getting finished! And, of course, I owe you some music too that needs to be finished. It will be completed some time in the New Year. Merry Christmas to you and Adel!

What a lovely melody and so warmly expressed with your arrangement. And, that crescendo was ah-mazing! Goose bumps. I'm glad to hear your selection of solo reeds over the idea of bagpipes! Great work, Graham. Oh, and that sweater. 'Tis the season. :)
Thank you for watching and commenting, Christopher! Of course, this music is very far removed from your recent fabulous uploads of Franck and Mendelssohn! I thought if I wore my Christmas jumper, it might distract viewers from listening too carefully and spotting the many little slips that give the recording a particular 'Twist' feel! As ever, you are too kind . . . it must be the season of goodwill and joy to all men!
You are a master, Graham! I love your arrangement of this Scottish tune very, very much! I feel like I’ve experienced that tune in past years, maybe in some band piece? Your take on it is truly magical!!!! 🏴🎶🏴

Thanks so much for commenting, James - I really appreciate it! You are so incredibly supportive of my attempts at composition and I cannot thank you enough for the encouragement you continue to give me. You are a real star in my firmament! I love the Hereford flue stops (certainly plenty to choose from!). The two reed solos are from the Solo Organ - Clarinet (volume up a bit!) and the Orchestral Oboe. The Swell has great possibilities with 16' and 8' reeds other than the fiery trumpet chorus at 16', 8' and 4' which were too much for this piece (I know, never too much for you!). At the end, it is the Cor Anglais - rather a weak stop heading a bit towards a Vox Humana. Thanks for asking! If I had been inspired by your registering techniques, I should have deployed the Tuba for the solo spots (my favourite stop on this organ sample set!).
