    Good to know! For some reason I thought most people got a lift in order to fit a 33” tire without rubbing.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  7 місяців тому +1

      I think it depends on the offset on the rims and the width of the tires. With 255 width - original springs and the offset mentioned in the video I had no rubbing. And almost no weight. So if you are planning a overland build you will need to get springs with higher load rating to to keep the clearance. Personally I loved my light camping setup on original springs. 👌

    Simon. Your rig looks so great now. I have been running the KM2's for about 6.5 years now. love them. when i am off road i run 18psi in the front and 14-16 in the rear depending on how much stuff i have in the back. I have replaced mine twice in the last 6.5 years with an average 25,000 mi. per year. about 80 percent hyway,15 percent gravel, 5 percent harder off road. The only things i don't like. are they can be pretty slippery on icy roads, they tend to weather crack after about 2 seasons, but still runnable, and they are heavy compared to other mud tires so down on power a little. other than that i love mine. mine 33x12.5x15in. Have a great one.

      Hey Tom and thank you. Yeah it really came to it's own with these new wheels and Tyres. Thanks for sharing your long experiences, best way for others to find out if it is a tyre for them. Slippery on ice, yeah, MT's should never be near any road with ice. :) I forgot to say it in this video but this setup is only for summer. I have proper nordic winter studded tires for winter. :) I did not think about checking the weigth, I need to do that. Weight is so important for us overlanders, we don't want to be over that limit. Thanks again and stay safe. Simon.

    Yes to the perfect tyres (I have 255/85R16 and have been running them since 2006 - first the KM and then the KM2 s).
    However I think they are best on genuine Wolf rims although I do have Modular’s too on another truck.
    The only problem with 255s is the price now…before Covid I paid £165 for a brand new one, now they have gone up to around £260!!

    This steel rims are great but make sure you spray them with anticorosion spray to protect them as they have tendency to show signs of rust pretty quickly. I actually prefere them on my 90 more than Wolf rims as they are nearly 40kg lighter.

With 100s, high range is about 90% of original high range, and about 1: 3.80 so still lower than std. Brakes are the problem and I need something more powerful to stop the thing.

    I also have the same model tyres bfg km2 mud terrains but in 265/75 r16, this is my second set of km2 the first set was in 285/75 r16, I find the slightly smaller size in 265 performs better off road than the 285. The 255 size must be really good 👍mileage i do is about 70% off road 30 on road. The only main weakness of the bfg km2 in my experience here in the African bush is the sidewalls tend to struggle with thorns or sharp rocks on rocky rutted tracks particularly after about 20,000 kilometres the sidewalls seem to weaken but the tracks and driving conditions here are very rough, just have to be careful where I drive, other than that a great tyre! BTW they look awesome on your defender with the black rims, they've really enhanced your landy, enjoyed the video 👌

      Hey and thanks Will for a great review from your experience. We don't se as much stakes and sharp rocks here as almost everything is covered in green here in Norway. So really great comment for other to see and learn from. 255 is really good, and super stable on road. I don't know about super soft sand if maybe a wider set would be better to get a bigger floating area, for beach and sand dunes runs. We don't have those conditions here. But for mud and forest tracks the narrower tires seems to find their way down through the mud and find traction on harder soil further down. In deep snow as well, Ref, our deep snow video with Erik's RRC on STT pro's, the find tracktion down under the loose snow. The look is great, love the black wheels look, I feel you can't go wrong with black wheels. Glad you liked the video and thanks again for a great comment. Stay safe down there and enjoy your great tracks. We really are envious of that up here in Norway. 👍🙂

      @@LandRoverDrive thanks for the reply, absolutely it's great to compare notes on the same tyres in different terrain in different parts of the world! I'm soon replacing my km2 set with a new set but this time getting the newer model bfg km3 mud terrains rather than km2's in 265/75..it will be interesting to see how the km3's do compared to the km2's, i think bfg claim a 27% stronger sidewall or somewhere around there on the km3 compared to km2, I suppose time will tell but if that's the case they should be slighlty more durable maybe😀 I've also had a set of bfg ko2 all terrains which are also a great choice. For an all terrain tyre they are an amazing all round performer but i like and prefer mud terrain tyres for where i am.. personally even in sand i wouldn't go wider, adding extra rolling resistance to a small 200tdi engine there's only so much one can ask out of a great but small engine..Yes Erik's range rover classic on those cooper stt pro's what a combination off road💪good tyres off road are definitely one of the best upgrades one can do to any 4x4 vehicle, Stay safe and looking forward to your next video release 👍🏼

      Hey Thomas, Says 33mm in the my Defender Data slate. Positive offset, the rim is further in over the hub, negative it's further out. So going from +33 to +8 the tyre will come further out. I have check multiple times now so should be correct with +33 for the original rims. I see 16"x10" rims having a negativ offset of -33. So if you are running a wide 35 you get the tire ruther out, to get a better turning circle. 🙂 Really love the look, and they work great for my driving style and the trips that we do. Thank you Land Rover Drive. I've been looking for new wheels and rims for quite some time. When you you quote an offset of 8, exactly what do you mean. I've been looking at rims where they quote an ET figure, usually as a positive or a negative, but measured in millimetres. eg ET-40, ET0 or ET+60 etc. how does the "8" relate to this please. The reason I ask is that in the UK they don't like the wheel/rim to protrude beyond the arches too much.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  3 роки тому

      Hey Gary, if you google offset you can get some good drawings to explain it all. But + offset mean the wheel will sit further in. Original offset on a defender i +33. So with +8 the whill will stick further out like they do with this setup. You can go further and og to negative offset but then you will have the weels stick way out. With the orignal alloy wheels I had, with a 1" spacer, they came out about the same as my wintery tyres setup with. You need to think about the wheel size as well, if you go with a wider tire you need less offset to not protrude beyond the arches, but with that in mind you get a worse turning circle. Wich tires are you thinking of getting?

    I run 235/85R16 KM2s on Wolf rims on my 110, very good tyres for mud use but I use 7.50R16 Michelin all terrains for longer road biased trips. Our works Defenders run 265/75R16 KM3s which I don't think are as good on the road, especially in the wet, but they are still a good mud tyre.

      Thanks for sharing! Looks like you got it all sorted. I like the narrower look on the defender with the classic clean rims. Wolf rims are great, and I think they are legal when it comes to offset too. Erik got wolf rims with his new tires on his Defender before he sold it. Looked great. 265/75 is getting a bit chunky and I would guess, as you say, not the best for onroad driving. I think the narrow 255 makes it more stable and was surpriced how well it worked on road. I did not think about checking fuel, did not notice the difference, but as you say, I guess it would be about the same. Chunkier tiers but bigger size compensating for that. Hey Sam, I'm not going to find out. 🙂 MT tires are dangerous on hard packed snow, +2 to -3*C, and ice. I would not recommend it for anyone. Winter tires are the way to go, and studded if you can. You can get away with some AT tires if they are brand new, M+S marked and you clean them often. But only for the first winter season. Need to buy them in the fall. And need to have some snow chains as a backup. But why not just get winter tires then. :) Cheaper and safer, even the ones without studs. I would have had to wait about a week for the nokians.

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  3 роки тому +1

      I think it depends on how much driving too. A studded tire should be replaced either way in 3-5 years as the rubber gets old and amount of studs gets fewer. So it could be wiser to pick a cheaper tire and replace them more often than go for the more expencive tires. I will run mine for 5 seasons if the amount of studs is enough. I spend more money on tires on the cars where the children will be in and the car my wife will drive then on the Defender where I'm driving alone. But non the less, don't skip on safety, and you can feel if a tire is good or bad pretty fast when the winter comes. I always do some testdriving when the first snow and Ice comes. Just replace new winter studded tires on my wifes car. :)

      It’s the standard suspension, but remember I was running very light, almost no weight even when I was overlanding. If you have a big overland build in mind I would fit the tires, do the build and then do the suspension. Either stiffer original height or a one inch lift if you wanted a lift. Just new original springs can lift the car if you have old springs.

      It’s for light running, I want just to change my tire 265/75/16 BF Goodrich T/A by 265/85/16 in mud terrain or STT Pro…

      @@controleunit6036 okay, not sure if they will runb or not on flex, I guess they will. Maybe see if you can find someone running with that setup. I know they use 35” on the defender but I’m not sure if you have to lift it to make it fit properly. 🤔

    Hi does this mean all tyres that are 235/85/16 will be 33" inches in diameter?

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  3 роки тому +1

      255/85R16 is around a 33” tire. Not 235/85. And there is also some difference between each tire manufacturers. So a Cooper tire can be slightly bigger or smaller than a BFGoodrich tire. There are tire calculators online which you can use to find out what your tire is in inches, or form inches to mm. 👍😁 Hope that helps.

    Is it the stock suspension here? Does wheel fit well into the arc still?

      Hehe, depends. But for overlanding first it's the perfect tyre, as you say, it has some comfort to it when driving. Rolling light and easy to turn. 👍🙂
