This is one of the higher review scores out there. By quite a bit. I'm interested to see what made it better for Damiani than most.

It seems he liked the combat and the traversal/exploring quite a bit, and that is basically 80% of the game. He also warmed to the narrative by the end.

Life Hack - Use Japanese Audio with Subtitles. It's like a brand new game lmao. Got so annoyed of the English dialogue quickly until I switched it.

it misses the mark 95% of the time, for how much dialogue there is in the game.
A decent chunk of this comment section is so depressing with their bizarre expectation for every review to be the same and fixation/weird controlling need for their skewed mental image of a game they haven’t even played yet to match up with Damiani’s opinion.
“Uhhh I did NOT expect that score after the review” it’s like people only watched the opening statement and then skipped to the score. He’s pretty much praising the game the whole review, I was expecting the score to be higher after listening to him. Maybe because this is the first review I’ve watched and it’s not this review your bringing that bias in from? Just a thought. Besides even if the interactions with cuff are tedious/annoying having the foresight to acknowledge it and add in options to make it less frequent is worthy of praise!
Lastly, I have a weird interest in this game and am really struggling to decide if I want to buy it. I think the combat looks pretty dull if I’m being honest but the world and fluid way you can explore it along with the way you unlock everything are both really appealing to me. The fact that Damiani enjoyed the story is a + but it still looks pretty cheesy to me. This is a tough one.

Was more so commenting that they did not bring up a lot of the negative things most reviews have been not how many 8's the game has gotten. I see it's gotten a few.
Well, it was obvious it was going to get brigaded from back when they did the announcement. Malding gamer bros have been seething about this for a year.

@@interlinkedMedia Didn't they? The dialogue is cringe and too plentiful. But that's Square Enix writing for you. The overall plot itself apparently goes places and the combat, when it all comes together, is great and unlike anything else. The sum of its parts makes it an 8 for Damiani and that's fair.

Should of scored this is a solid 6. Super surprised at the score considering they said they had to turn the cuff interactions off to stay sane. Looking at previous reviews Michael tends to really over rate average games. I don't think they know how the 0-10 scoring works and rates games more like 0-14. For example previous games Michael scored things like Ghost Wire an 8/10 and Battlefield 2042 a 7/10.

I was talking to a guy in another video, he told me that it took 10 hours of playing the demo for the combat to really make sense and become something fun. Honestly, I don't know if it's a game for me....
All the footage I've seen of this game, I feel like I haven't seen a single enemy try to attack. They just stand around and wait to be killed.

I'm reading comments and people are really wondering why his score was so high. After playing the game myself and getting the platinum, I can tell that the reviewer actually played the game. Objectively this game is around an 8 out of 10. Subjectively, I give it a 9. It's really not as bad as reviewers made it out to be and is quite fun. I still don't agree with the dialogue thing. I have most certainly heard worse. And from a technical aspect the game runs pretty good on the PS5 except for Inner Praenost. Quite a few framerate dips in there. Years from now there's going to be plenty of "Was Forspoken really that bad?" videos floating around on UA-cam.
I just finished it after 24 hrs (the story and a few side things) and it just got better and better as you go and even had a plot twist that I did not see coming at all.
I loved this game, a straight 9/10 for me and a breath of fresh air to a gaming industry that's become all too samey and predictable, this story seemed predictable at first and then completely changed my perspective a few times and then blew me away by the end. I truly feel sorry for those hating on it, it's a well made game with a lot of heart and a ton of potential if Frey ever visits another world using the Torana. I can't wait for the DLC where we may play as Cinta herself!

I just beat the game. I got it on black Friday and it's surprisingly short. But a lot of fun! I liked it much more than ff16 and other square Enix jrpgs I played this year

Cause the world corrupted by weird fog, nothing just enemies there. But so much going on, if we do exploration.

This game looks like it took A LOT of inspiration from the Infamous series.
I mean look at the way the main charter is shooting spells.
Looks obviously close to how Cole and Delsin shoot off their attacks.

Whether it suits your taste or not, Frey reminds me a lot of the protagonist "Drew" from the cancelled Scalebound game for Xbox One. A Japanese-made game heavily targeting the Western-style of "hip kid lost in a fantasy world" vibe.
People are saying the graphics suck but having not watched much of this game, the early part where she's in street clothes and in a normal town the graphics look pretty similar to Spider-Man for me.

IGN gave Alien Isolation a 5,9/10, one if not the best Alien game ever and God Hand a 3/10, one of the best action beat em up made by Capcom. I reccomend not to trust IGN score.

I like the idea of combat primarily being magic spells and movement being superpowered parkour, but every time i see footage of the open world or cut scenes I feel empty and transported back to 2008. Oh well, at least this game isn't a walking NFT machine
I just beat the game and 8 is a solid score and fair, thanks to you guys for a fair review unlike others who seemed to have a grudge with the game for some weird reason, It's sad that many gamers who trust on others reviews will not buy the game, I hope the game sells really well and the studio continue and don't end up closed by SE for the backlash reviews and sales.
Thank GOD you can lower the dialog with your cuff. Glad it appears to be doing better than expected. I was getting nervous about this one.

This is going to be the most divisive game of 2023. Depending on what you enjoy most in a game, you will either enjoy it or hate it. Do you go for intricate combat and fun movement systems? You'll probably like it, not love it. Do you need great narratives, characters, world building? You'll absolutely hate it
Hoping they can refine this gameplay idea into a different game. It has a lot of potential
I've been seeing all over the spectrum, leaning mostly to the bad. Idk why a woke crowd would be into this anyway...? The issues are the characters being flat and empty, flat story, empty world design. And it's a team mostly from FF15, so this isn't surprising.

Something tells me Forspoken will be a one and done game series as it will not meet SquareEnix's insane sales expectations. Even if the game was getting perfect scores (which it is not) there is no chance it could.

It seems like an interesting title but with the mixed reviews it feels like a wait for a sale if I do pick it up at some point.

@@brooklynbornn9488 It's best to find reviewers/youtubers that have similar taste to you. Although an aggregate score on metacritic can be a good indicator especially with AAA titles. I think Forspoken is on a 68 currently which is a massive yikes.
Forspoken I was very skeptical of when they withheld review codes from certain outlets anyways. That's always a bad sign.
I was interested but the voice acting sounds like it was directed by the producers of 90’s PBS hit kid’s show Ghost Writer.

They even made a game-feature for the player being able to shut them up as an optional choice. Big credit to the writing department right there.
i feel like this game appeals to a certain type of person, i loved the demo especially the combat. unfortunately everyone else hated it lol to me the combat is enough to get me to play day 1

@@bauloprete3905 You have to remember, people play games for different reasons. If I can dive deep into the gameplay of the video...game, then I can easily get 100+ hours out of it. Story and everything else is just icing on the cake.

I refunded less than an hour in. The cutscene heavy introduction and snarky YA dialogue (some people might like it, just not me, a 39 year old man) let me know this wasn't going to be a game for me. Taking about 30 minutes before the "real" tutorial even begins is kind of inexcusable at this point.

Combat is total fire. I'm honestly curious why so many find it a negative. To each their own I suppose.
@@kavemanx420x if you look at all of the combat b-roll in these reviews they are mostly spamming rocks and holding down the trigger to charge burst. Real basic stuff. I see no support spell into a instant charge, into a element switching scorpion pull, into a fire slice, into a instant charged arc slice, into rage burst, into a screen filling wall of fire that grows in intensity. Combat in Forspoken is bananas.
also yeah, i agree with the score. the game is nowhere near as bad as reviewers say it is. its better than dragon age 2 and that shit got 9's all over the place. better than COD as well.
The demo really put me off, and even this positive review saying "the story is bland and the combat only really gets good at the end" has me thinking I won't be going back to this one.

The negativity leading up to this release made it seem like people want this to fail. Seems like it’s an above average open world action RPG. Maybe not worth putting down other games to play at launch but this is definitely one to get down the road
I don't think it's people wanting it to fail as much as people like me played the demo and felt everything was lacking and none of the trailers gave me any hope it would become better beyond what was available in that demo.
Looks like a below average game (not just open world) if you look at the open critic average. It just seems like Damiani liked it more than most.

I think it is reasonable to consider the fact, that this game is setting a new standard in pricing. On Steam in EU the game has a price tag of 79.99 Euros. It should at least be mentioned. We should not accept this kind of price hike for a mediocre AAA Game. On Metacritic there is no review score for the PC version, because only the PS5 version got gifted to the reviewers. The user score for the PC version on Metacritic is 1.8. To suggest that the game gets some flag because of racial bias is insulting.
It's great hearing that the game is pretty decent. I know everyone's rolling their eyes at the dialogue, myself included, so I like that you can decrease the amount of banter you hear between the characters, cuz I'm definitely gonna do that. *Someone* on the staff knew. They knew. I'm rooting for this game to do well. I just hope they have someone who's actually black write her dialogue for the sequel, because they clearly didn't for this game, and it shows. I'll pick this one up on a sale.

an 8? I am intrigued! Welp, now I am more interested to see EZA address and discuss the very wide range of feedback that they will definitely get for this review in the future.
This is one of those games I might only consider if it becomes available on PS+. Outside of that, I've pretty much lost any interest in this at all. The demo was boring, the gameplay was boring, the characters are annoying - there's just nothing that was keeping me connected to the game. Like most reviews said - there's a lot of potential in this game, but none of it is being tapped.
Why wouldn’t they just give you melee spells to start out with? It makes the first 1/3 of your game a shooter- what a weird design choice
Glad to see I wasn't the only one hot on the game after the demo - it felt like it had a secret combat and traversal sauce that would make it worthwhile but other reviewers just didn't seem to really quite get it :(
Hearing Brandon say: "Casting spells looks amazing in actions" when the entire time my brain has gone: This looks looks so bland and repititive and not fun. This is the first gameplay footage i've seen of the game and havent seen other reviews. But based on the footage and the bad voice acting my guess is, this game is boring. Few seconds farther, the impressive visuals? where are those? all the enemies have this white glow, making them look the same? a riviting open world? I'll stop typing now because well, because.

It's great that some people enjoy Forspoken more than others, but I think the problems Forspoken has don't warrant a score higher than a 7.0 imo.

Always good to see something new coming out of Square-Enix. Looks very ambitious. After last year's overflow of open world games. Starting off the year with a new open world game can be daunting. I just hope people give the game a fair opportunity.

These comments are a great mix of skepticism, curiosity and those specific individuals who are looking for a review to legitimize their confirmation bias, which this one does not. It's all a conspiracy.

This seems to be one of the more accurate reviews of the game, imo. Been playing about 10 hours now, and the game is a blast. A little rough around the edges, but it's really fun and has some great potential for a sequel that sadly probably won't happen because of the frankly bizarre public reaction to the game.
Fucking hate people sometimes. This game has some great ideas in its gameplay that I'd love to see polished and expanded more in a sequel.

I think the developers should have scaled back the world's size, and made the game more linear. Most people have harped on the fact that the world is empty. Had they scaled the world back, they probably would have gotten the performance in better shape. This is a game I will try down the line.
This is the Sonic Frontiers for fast paced magic action lovers
I for one would rather play Sonic.
I feel like it hits the same spot of enjoyment that games like Just Cause have. It's not great but it's enough to keep you entertained while listening to podcasts or something

I wasn't interested in the game at all till this review, that highlighted the positives. But then you simply have to remember this is a 70$ game, somehow being forgiving of a game that demands the highest price of the standard editions in the market, seems like misplaced benevolence.
I think it's absolutely hilarious that the like/dislike ratio on this is so close to 1:1, as if Damiani liking a video game is a crime or something. Even better, it's a game that literally none of y'all have even played yourselves yet. Just top tier comedy there

Played the demo for 2 hours. The exploration and repeated side content reminds me most about what I don't like from assassins creed.
He is not just liking a videogame. He is reviewing it so that others can base their purchases on that. Not only is he providing disservice to gamers but also encouraging devs to make awful games.
I liked the trailers and videos about the game as well the gameplay aspects when I played of the demo of the game. But the steep price of 80 Euro is hard to justify given the technical issues of the release. It's not unplayable, but it should run and look much better than it does on PC. Feel sorry for the devs - and I do think people are hypercritical of the game for whatever reason - but if the game flops it's hard to deny that this is of their own making in many ways.
Ofcourse Damiani giving a square/Japanese game a higher score then it deserves.

Thanks for the review. If I was to believe every weak review I never would have played Day's Gone. One of my favourite games and it ended up doing very well after the poor reviews because people gave it the chance and decided to think for themselves. Forspoken is not without it's issues but looks really fun and has a good story. Also cats.
Diofield chronicle got middling reviews and I ate it up we have to give things a chance for sure. I found the hate the games getting so suspect.
Poor reviews doesn't mean a game is not fun. Fun isn't the only thing considered in a review after all. Day's Gone was also extremely buggy at launch.
Its really a very mid game. Por performace, genéric story. Not on par of FF like at all. I has More fun on FF15 than this

Could've used more time with the facial animations. Stuck out like a sore thumb with how stiff it looked through out the review when on display.
I liked this review more than the hate-train ones. I don't think someone can accurately size up a game a few hours after release from rushing through the main story. And it looks like so many people did just that. The many reviews saying the game is bad are just regurgitating vague complaints. Like someone said its not original because it is a "hero quest" . 99% of RPGs are hero quests. That is literally the point.
I think the complaints about the bickering convo between chick and cuff and not getting a melee weapon until half way through are the most valid complaints. The other complaints seem pretty generic and apply to most games (like similarity in side quests and similarity in enemies/bosses). I haven't seen any complaints on performance or serious bugs. The visuals look good. I think the main antagonist is interesting and unique. There might be some biasing against the game due to misogyny, that is unfortunately, still fairly common in the gaming community. If you dont believe me on that one just check on comments left on any Horizon game video (zero dawn or forbidden west). Female lead games tend to get a lot of hate on release. I suggest playing it yourself and forming your own opinion instead of passing on a game because a bunch of dudes say its not fresh enough for them.
At the very least, the game looks polished and FINISHED. Which used to be an expectation in games but now days is a feature.
no misogyny. just terrible game. empty open world with nothing interesting to discover.. after elden ring, such empty open world should not be excused.
terrible joss whedon MCU writing with one of the worst, most unlikeable dynamic duo in modern gaming.. Atreus and Kratos is a great example, two mirror opposite characteristics struggling with their own completely different problems but ultimately working together for a common goal. forspoken's duo is just 2 immature teenagers bickering at each other with no emotional development whatsoever.
the visuals look good? the environment looks like a vomit of unity asset put together, just generic rocks on top of generic fields with generic grass and occasionally trees. character models look like ps4 at best and ps3 at worst *in 2023*..
cringe dialogues that seem to be written by out of touch 40 yr old boomers trying to figure out what 15 year-old teens would think 'hip' (and cuff constantly belittling me every single time.. i play video games to be a hero and to feel powerful, why would i want this annoying side character constantly downplaying every decision i make?).
this and many more issues, this game is a 6 at best.
and stop crying over misogyny if you have nothing better to say, lara croft, nier's 2B, bayonetta, celeste, samus aran, senua, kena - bridge of spirits.. all well-beloved female leads on very good games with little to no hate..

What about the story? And the NPCs and towns... If there are none, then it's just Frey and the final boss... And if the story is inexistent...
I am disappointed in this review. I still don't know if I'll get this game. Coming from someone who liked Stranger of Paradise for what it was.

Some games people will just hate to hate because somewhere, someone they look up to for advice or knowledge on games trashed a game or gave it a low score. So you know, that just means they're opinion is the only one that matters. People played a "poorly" executed demo, for some it was fine for others it wasn't and that's OKAY. People get so hung up on what other people think it's ridiculous, especially when you yourself haven't even touched the full game. I'm glad Easy Allies continue to put honest reviews out despite what everyone else is doing and not following mob mentality.
So when they follow the average like most of the time, they are not honest or is it others that are now honest?
@@Ayoul Not necessarily either. I'm just saying they are honest with what they thought and feel about the game. Regardless of what game it is. If that coincides with what others thought then so be it. They take risks with their reviews I think more so then a lot of other outlets to give the score they want. Not what they think people want to hear.

The demo was the final nail in the coffin for me: I forced myself to play it till the end, but I felt there was a noticeable input lag in the commands, the UI was unnecessarily complex and unpleasant to read and the gameplay mechanics were way less interesting and impressive than what was shown in the trailers. Overall, it was tedious and the exact opposite of fun.

@@Ayoul I mean, relatively for an AAA game. It's hard to tell with targeted advertising being what it is but I'm definitely in the target audience for that game and I have not seen a single ad for it anywhere and barely anyone talking about it. But maybe it is very heavily advertised and all of it has just missed me. But either way it's insane to expect it to sell like an FF game.
