so helpful and clearly explained - I am a 68yr old mother with Lyme trying to help my autistic 25 yr old son with his CG125 rear brake. I used to ride bikes , but it's a good few years ago and I need to get my head around doing these kind of jobs again.I might need to watch this a few times so it sticks in my head . . but thanks . . . good stuff.

The inner hub (where the shoes rub against) itself wears out over time and eventually needs to be replaced Similar to a car. Eventually rotors need to be replaced after a few sets of brake pads
@@AaronsEnduro I just got this bike it was fine I was adjusting where the brake was on the bars but then that happened so where whould I adjust it from thanks
I just changed the brake shoes of my bikes rear brake and suddenly its way too tight and also sticky, i tried changing the inside springs, but its still the same. Any idea on how to fix it?
I have a crf 70 and I took the brakes apart cleaned and sanded the pivot arm inside the hub. Still not great. I noticed your has a spring at the end of the cable and mine doesn’t not. Am I suppose to have a return spring? I have them on the shoes just not on the cable
@@AaronsEnduro it operates smoothly with cable disconnected from the brake pivot arm. I’m seeing videos of 70s without the spring but there’s a spring that I found on eBay that is a legit oem spring for 70s. I did buy this used.

Well that worked. The pivot shaft that spreads the pads was about seized. Works like a dream now. Thank you

Now where do you suggest to buy parts from ? I think I need a new cable
But can’t find part on Amazon
Depends on what bike
@@AaronsEnduro it’s a 2000 model xr70r
What country u in
THANKKK YOUU MAAAAAAANN ffs now i can wheelie without looping my shit

I have a xr80r with brand new brake shoes any idea why it won't grab?

Hey! I have almost the same problem with my bike (crf 100f) i pull the front brake, nothing wrong, but the then the spring cant push it back,so it sucks
Need more tension from the spring
@@AaronsEnduro how do I add more tension??
Adjust the arm on the spline shaft
@@AaronsEnduro I just got this bike it was fine I was adjusting where the brake was on the bars but then that happened so where whould I adjust it from thanks
What would be the cause of the rear drum break locking up. When i ride even around 40km/h and I push the rear brake it locks ups
Sounds like the drum separator is over rotating and binding up when you apply the brakes
@@AaronsEnduro what would be the best way to fix this
Checking that your pads aren’t completely worn out, and or that the adjuster is adjusted correctly
I replaced the pads and the problem is solved. Thank you
Fantastic! Happy to hear!
I just changed the brake shoes of my bikes rear brake and suddenly its way too tight and also sticky, i tried changing the inside springs, but its still the same. Any idea on how to fix it?
The brakes are probably adjusted for the worn out brake pads
I press my brakes and they don't move there's no slack so I need to pull the entire wheel off to fix the brake arm and adjust it down for more slack?

Is your brake lever not returning at all ?
From my knowledge, yes it needs the spring at the bottom of the cable
Lever and brake pivot arm will not return. Wondering if the cable is to blame
Oh , ya you’re missing the spring buddy

so the back ones are the same thing because my back break works but barely
Same idea! Id also check your pads to see if they have any pad left !
@@AaronsEnduro thank you i will

I need cables like those but don't know where to get them
Drum brake cables?
Splines not 'gears'.
Shoes not 'pads'.
