- It's a great day of chateau renovation as the new fridges and freezer arrive and we are finally able to move the food into the pantry! There's also a lot of typical Lalande life, as we try to catch the peachicks for Terry and Ash, to send them to their new life as the founding peacocks of the Chateau de Lalacelles!

Dear Steph, Please store the honey on a lower shelf away from direct sunlight to avoid it warming up and being pasteurised in the jars which shall result in the honey losing all the beneficial medicinal goodness : )

That was EXACTLY my thought when I saw those honey jars on the top shelf exposed to SO much light 😲😀!
Ooo learning now. I’m in Australia the pantry is hot anywhere is putting it in the fridge instead an option here or will that have a detrimental effect too?

Really thought with a whole video devoted to the pantry that there might have been a nod to all the wonderful work Dan did transforming the space AND the hallway leading into it! He took such pains to get it done well and in time for your return, Stephanie. I’m sure you admired the results privately but he definitely deserved a mention here.

They couldn’t catch Laughter. It seems odd that knowing they were coming to get them, they hadn’t already caught them. Having had peacocks, it’s generally easier to catch them in the evening when they go to roost
Pro tip: make sure to have great lighting in the pantry, maybe per-shelf LED strips?
it could become painful quick if you have to run in and find something in the evening!
i watch terry and ash's channel so it was a strange sort of disconnection seeing them at lalande. looking forward to seeing their peacocks at home

The ice cube trays are brilliant. And the pantry is perfect. But you need to move the honey out of the sun. It needs to be in a cool dry place away from heat.
I switched the refrigerator door by myself. I had some elderly friends that were complaining about the doors, refrigerator bottom, freezer top, making it hard to get in it. When I told them you could switch them around they were shocked.
Ash and Terry are fantastic. I love their channel. It's nice to know the peacocks are going to a great home. Jonathan will be thrilled to see them.

Having a full and organized pantry brings with it a sense of accomplishment, preparedness, and fulfillment - it's as if whatever comes along, you'll feel prepared! I would highly recommend putting a whiteboard somewhere in the room, and establishing a rule that when someone uses something, it goes on the shopping whiteboard (or just a notepad list) so that it can be restocked BEFORE it's needed! We've been using that system in our house for years, and it has enabled me to cook things spontaneously, knowing I have the ingredients called for...

I was in a slight panic until Ash and Terry mentioned that they had an enclosure ready for the peacocks. Years ago some people got peacocks and didn't know that it takes them a while to settle into a new place. Those birds roamed the neighbourhood, unsettling the people and the other animals for quite a while. The peacocks were pretty unhappy too. (It wasn't as disturbing as the emu that roamed the acreages for a while though.)

You opened up the pantry memories for many of us. As a child entering my Më Méres home I went straight to the pantry, not for the food but just to be in that special sweet place. The sun would be best through the Window! Happiness! The garden in the courtyard is going to be something wonderful this year in Minnesota it would take three times as long to its glory. I have a ‘walk-in’ pantry too. It is amazing. Feels like my own little grocerystore 😁 When my kids have friends over they take them to the pantry and say: ‘Well, this is my mom’s little store’. 😂
