    This is my second log cabin but my first time using saddle notches. It is time consuming but I am getting the hang of it. I hope to get much better as I continue.
    This is not a "How to build a log cabin" video. Its just me trying to fulfill my childhood dream of building a log cabin. I am not a carpenter, I am just doing the best I can with what I have. Thanks for watching and hopefully you subscribe for future log cabin videos.
    A log cabin is a dwelling constructed of logs, especially a less finished or architecturally sophisticated structure. Log cabins have an ancient history in Europe, and in America are often associated with first generation home building by settlers.
    Huge shout out to my patrons, Diane, Joseph, Mike, Paul S, John F, John S, Owen, Gerald, Matt, Shawn C, Terry M, JWP, Ter & Mel, Jeanette, and Wayne C ! Your donations are appreciated more than you know.

    Hard work indeed Troy but when you sit back one of these days and see the cabin completed you'll enjoy many many years in it. As will your kids one day...

    Fold the cable, pass it through the eye bolt and use the hook to stop it from passing back through

    Looking good Troy. Any time you're using your winch you should have your bike running so you don't potentially kill your battery. Later buddy and all the best.

    You can use an angle grinder to get tighter notches.

      Or the handheld electric plane I have. I'm not concerned about the gaps. A lot of log cabins have 2 or 3 inch gaps they fill with mortar.

    Great video, on a great project! I wonder whether you considered chinking the gaps between the logs with oakum? Besides being waterproof, it also keeps the bugs away. The moss will dry up after a couple of years, and eventually cement will crack as the cabin settles, but the oil in the oakum will last for ages. Also, oakum is a lot easier to work with than, say, fibreglass batts.
    Also, if you don't mind a bit of a pink tint to the outside walls of the cabin, when you go to stain the outside of the logs, transmission fluid not only helps preserve the logs, but it is also a very good bug repellant!
    Just a couple of suggestions, what a lot of work!

    • @13prevailbushcraft
      @13prevailbushcraft  2 роки тому

      I would love to use oakum but the stuff is just too expensive for me...Thanks for the suggestions !
