    Oh man, the feels! When i built my first cabin, when i was 22, my dad was already pretty beat up, he couldnt help me hurk logs up above our heads or anything, but he was so helpful just doing little stuff like cooking for me so i could just work all dang day, and being around for safety if i cut my leg off or fell off the roof or something, this video made me remember that, good times. But its a good point too, it would be nice if your 300lb power lifter buddy could help every time you go out to work on your cabin, but there is so much work to do, that anything helps, your little old granny can pour coffee into you, and tell you stories while you are doing the boring stuff like peeling logs, or my little 6yo nephew did the chinking down at ankle hight, which at that phase of construction made my back so happy i bought him his first .22, hah.

    Nice to see a young man doing something constructive with his time instead of playing on his computer. Hats off to you Kyle, I'm impressed

    We missed something. What happened to hauling concrete in and making a footer? Also would be nice to see the structure under that floor.
    Please be careful too with the chainsaw. I know you are Superman but there is “kryptonite” everywhere with your somewhat unsafe habits. You need a nice big stepladder out there. Also get yourself and EMS type First Aid Kit. You are miles from an ER. Get someone to teach you the art of stitches too. Your skill may need to save your life if an accident happens. At 74 this old guy has had his share and as I still backpack often alone in wilderness areas I try to be prepared. Might get yourself (when you can afford it, $400 ) a Garmin satellite inReach text communicator with the SOS feature too. Just the ability of being able to tell a loved one that you are ok and just not coming out when you told them as you are working, etc.
    Ok, advice over. As an old Boy Scout, Leader and a teacher too, just had to share some concerns with you. You are doing such a great job and I only want to see happy endings!!!!!

    I really enjoy spending time watching you working on your cabin after a long day at work. Your videos are a great way to unwind.
    The food your dad cooked looked so good. I wish I could be there for real!
    Keep up the good work.
    I am curious if you have a source of water nearby?

      Didn’t you know that the youth are invincible and bulletproof?
      Hopefully he learns from our kidding. I used to teach Flight Instruction and when a student does something unsafe he thinks he can keep doing it. That usually end in death in an airplane. Chainsaws aren’t far removed. 😱

    Hey Kyle. You ever take grouse with your 12 gauge while on the way to the cabin for dinner? They are the tastiest critters in the northwoods (At least the ruffies are). Greetings from St. Louis County.

    • @KYLESCABIN
      @KYLESCABIN  2 роки тому

      Hey Kyle! Yes I do that quite often. Lots of grouse around the cabin

      @@KYLESCABIN It’s been a great season so far, probably at the top of the 10 year cycle. I’d enjoy a hunting video behind your Springer. I grew up with one and wow do they get birdy.

    Kyle I'm thinking you won't be doing too much hunting for food...you were so concerned with the mother quail leaving it's little one behind :)

    I’m digging your videos, I just bought 20 acres in the Ozarks and would someday like to do something similar. Why the foam insulation for chinking though?

    • @KYLESCABIN
      @KYLESCABIN  5 років тому +2

      I have to haul all materials in by hand, so mortar chinking was pretty much out of the question. I could have used moss but it's not the greatest. Saw a lot of cabins in alaska with foam for chinking, it works really well. its light so much easier to haul to remote cabins. It wont last forever but it will last several years if you keep the water off it. I will replace it with something better eventually. I've never been to the Ozarks but it looks beautiful. I'd love to see it someday.

      KYLES CABIN the Ozarks are beautiful, if you ever get a chance come see the buffalo river. It is amazing. My land is about 30 minutes from my favorite section of the buffalo. Are you worried about those logs shifting as they dry?

  • @UncaDave

    About that grouse, she will lead you away from her chick and will even fake a broken hurt wing to get you away from it. On to the next video!!!!!!
