There’s a bunch of quick time events that are automated to play on their own, but I’m glad that, apart from the final hit, Mephiles’s fight will actually play out a little different if you fail a quick time events. And typically Mephiles will mock you for failing to match his power
I honestly wish there was more penalty like in the Titan fights. A bit of a letdown in that regard. It almost looks like Mephiles parries you before hitting you! I want more stuff like that in the next game!!
As a '90s kid, I find that Amiga voice nostalgic, heh. I never used the Amiga myself, but that's similar to the kind of text-to-speech I grew up with. Even in kids' games/apps like Davidson's Kid Works Deluxe where they tried to make T2S sound more kid-friendly or goofy, little me always found it creepy or uncanny. That said, it suits Metal Sonic Kai imo.
I found it fascinating how new games always use 90s computer interfaces, terminals & tts as an element for horror because to people unfamiliar with it (younger generations) it's probably even more startling than those who grew up around it. It's a cool time capsule. I appreciate this perspective on your end too!
Amazing video and love the Titan Overlord mod I honestly don’t know if he looks more terrifying in Red or Blue . Red definitely makes him look like he’s straight from the dark fiery pits of the underworld while Blue just makes him even more disturbing sonic horror creature. Also I do agree while that voice change does make sense the original voice emotions you here especially the “Not you! Not Sonic! NOT ANYONE!” Ohhh you can feel the hatred in it which the voice pack sadly doesn’t have.
I almost used him over Warrior Shadow in the Mephiles fight! I figured Warrior was a bit more recent and fit Mephiles' theme better. Amazing point with the wings though omg - gonna steal that when I use his skin in a vid ngl 🫣
I’ve never been able to binge watch sonic underground (not because it’s unavailable for me, just because I can’t sit through it, even if one day I do plan on forcing myself to just to say I have) so I’m impressed that they found a character so obscure, but even I didn’t know about him. Although I will say I do with chomps had something for the wing form. Maybe the eggs that make up the wing could’ve been green to reference the master emerald? Or maybe they could’ve been music notes, I don’t know.

18:24 honestly if you ever do a video where you play as Sonic over Shadow the Shadow over Mephiles mod could honestly work pretty well since we never got a rival battle between the two, although Sonic vs Mephiles would go extremely hard since he killed him in 06 so seeing Sonic get his payback would be raw as hell (I am so sorry for the amount of yapping I’m about to do but I just really felt like making some sort of comment sharing mod combos I’ve done 💀) Speaking of Sonic based off a reply I’ve seen in your eclipse mod showcase it seems like at some point you plan to give Sonic a shot in this game which is pretty cool and for a bit of fun I want to recommend a bunch of different mods I personally use and have mixed together that make Sonic feel a lot more like well, SONIC instead of just a shadow skin, i’ll be going from stuff I consider most essential to just little personal touches. 1. Sonic X Sonic Generations by Lulamooonz You’re probably familiar with this but i’ll explain so this works for everyone reading, this WIP mod replaces Shadow with Sonic along with running animations instead of skating/hovering and re-colours and replaces the Doom Powers to fit Sonic better. 2. Jason Griffith Sonic Voice Clips by Dolm Essentially it does exactly what the Eclipse mod does but this time it’s Sonic, all of the voice clips sound like Sonic, level & boss dialogue is replaced with Sonic the bosses and Black Doom have had their dialogue edited and the side characters have had their interactions changed to sound like they’re actually talking to the blue guy. 3. Movie Sonic Mod by Demonicbear replaces Movie Shadow with Movie Sonic, although there is an issue with this mod at the moment where the chaos control aura and after images are very broken but I do have a semi fix for that at the end of the list so stick around 4. Sonic Styled Music + Rank Pack This replaces multiple songs from the game with more Sonic sounding ones and has multiple different styles for the result screen that you can customise, The options being modern style, Advance style, Rush style, Black Knight style, and Orchestral style, 5. Sonic Title Screen over Shadow by DanielGamerDX This is where things get more personal so if you’re happy with the way things are then you can leave it that way, this mod simply replaces the Shadow gens title screen with a Sonic themed one, I know the Sonic x Sonic gens mod already does this but personally I think this one looks better. 6. Sonic The Hedgehog by yoonyoon Now this is 1 of 3 mods where we won’t actually be using it but instead we will be extracting files with hedgeArcPack and mixing it with Sonic X Sonic Gens, now no offence to yoonyoon as I will always have respect for people going out of their way to make this stuff but the other Sonic mod is overall less buggy and more solid then this one. Anyways the files you’ll want to grab are the boost CEMTS as one tiny detail this mod has over the Lulamooonz one is that the boost aura is fully blue compared to the other mod where there’s still some orange left over from Shadow, so do your typical extraction when mixing animation mods only this time for boost CEMTS and you’re golden. 7. No Chaos Control Aura this one I specifically recommend for Movie Sonic as his chaos control aura is very broken and while this doesn’t fully fix it it does remove the aura when getting Chaos Control (idk if you’ll remember this but I actually recommended this to you on Twitter and you even respond… so ummmm hello) 8. Stylish Warp Attack by MarsonM526 This changes the animation that plays after Shadow’s chaos control homing attack to be the trick animation when you jump off a ramp in radical highway, this one is easily the most personal of them all but I think it makes sense for Sonic to style on the enemies after each attack, and conveniently this mod comes with an option to just download the necessary animation files so that’s a treat. Oh and for a bit of fun in the mod manager codes you could restore the stomp bounce and drop dash to make it truly feel like you’re playing as Frontiers Sonic, you could also disable the chaos control teleport BUUUUUUUUT as you should know it’s a little broken since it effectively disables the Doom Blast (though I’m pretty sure you can get through every level and boss with it… even if the final boss will take forever) Also I’m sorry but I do not have the energy to explain how HedgeArcPack works to those read who don’t know, Best I can do is recommend you watch one of LightningWyverns Frontiers modding tutorials as they do a pretty good job explaining Overall I hope this was useful to anyone that enjoys modding and I hope it is useful to you Dolphin :)
As much as I love metal overlord, I think metal sonic Kai works so well because of his red color scheme. Not only is it very intimidating, but it gives a good visual contrast next to the blue water. Don’t get me wrong, metal overlord in no way is subtle, but let’s just say I’m glad I don’t have to actually aim the canisters we fire at him because blue on blue is a little hard to see at high speed. The red on the other hand immediately is eye catching.
You could say this is a positive, but I almost don't know how to feel about Kai's palette fitting with the rest of Final Fortress. It fits in a little too well. I don't dislike it, but I did appreciate the Blue Kai form as well. Red is really cool for intimidation reasons, the red lens flare and just looking like a different hulking beast than normal Overlord.
I hope we get concept art or something for metal sonic Kai. It’s such a werid design for metal sonic and I wanna know there thought process when making it.
I've actually seen shockingly little about Knuckles' Chaotix online in general despite it having a lot of staying power in modern stuff. I'm curious how they went about making essentially a 5th classic era game while using an entirely different cast of characters.

His last reference was Mania (albeit blue) but he'd be gorgeously scary in a 3D game. In general I'd love to see stuff from the Classic artstyle get translated to one of the mainline modern games.

One day, I would love to learn how to make character mods. First things first I need to learn how to install and use mods, but then, after that, I would love to learn how to use blender to make/import models and then put them into the game.

I'm not even sure Metal Sonic will be *the* antagonist of Sonic 4. I feel someone might be pulling the strings behind him. If they do though I don't think we'd see Kai. Probably Overlord at most but considering we didn't get Chaos or a proper Biolizard it might scare younger viewers lol Ian used Kai a few times in Archie so I could see him returning in IDW or the games if Sega starts allowing Classic stuff in Modern.

Especially since I have console versions of games like sonic frontiers so worst case scenario if I deleted something essential, I could always just reinstall the game and I have a completed file on my PS5

I really feel that starting connection with sonic underground. The show is heavily underrated and actually holds quite a bit of information that’s connected to the comics.
Yooo it feels cool for you to point that out specifically! I may not love Underground but I think it has so many interesting interpretations of Sonic. I always enjoy seeing people mod in Sonia & Manik. Even Archie referenced them a few times.

If they do though I don't think we'd see Kai. Probably Overlord at most but considering we didn't get Chaos or a proper Biolizard it might scare younger viewers lol

Yup! In my Christmas video there were costumes for all the NPCs.
Just saw it, pretty nifty. Only people I can think of that won't get Chronicles models in base game is Metal Sonic, the Chaotix Blaze, Silver, and classic Eggman. Also I found a Frontiers mod that has Sonic's Chronicles model, so that was neat too.

Hey Dolphin I've got a question. Around the start of the video, you mentioned that the Movie Skin is now OFFICIALLY playable in the regular stages. My question is, is this just an update or do I have to do something else because on Switch(the only platform I have to play SxS Gens) the latest version is 1.10.
I just said they officially put the Movie Skin in the game. I used a modded piece of gameplay showing him in the Ark because it looked cool. Sorry man
