- The organizational structure of some traditional companies could look like this. However, some technology companies’ structures might look like this. In the real business world, depending on the industry, size, and stage, companies could have significantly different types of organizational structures. Organizational structure is the backbone of all the operating procedures and workflows at any company. It determines the place and the role of each employee in the business and is key to organizational development. In this video, I will introduce the 6 most common types of organizational structures, which include Hierarchical structure, Functional structure, Flat structure, Divisional structure, Matrix structure, and Network structure. Within each one, I will also discuss its advantages and disadvantages.
Thanks for a clear and brief explanation of a rather complex topic. I watched it with my students. They agreed that it was very helpful !!!
I really like the hierarchal structure because I feel that it helps with communication so there are no confusions. It's also useful because it shows the basic employee that there is room to move up in the company. If a larger business has a hierarchal structure, less pressure is put on the managers and the employees only have to answer to their department.
What's a "Basic" employee ?
🎉🎉
It depends on the business that you employ it in. Software development companies are usually using Matrix hierarchical structure because they have various experts on different fields of the industry, and each has their own project so there is a lot of lateral interaction there. Hierarchical won't work because it will be very inefficient and it won't allow for quick communication and decision making since the ladder is quite steep.
communication?if you're a petty low employee you won't be heard😁
what does having room to move up serve?you have to be a bootlicker to go up those ladders and people can get higher wages when they work in a co-op.
you can still have different departments without hierarchy😁

I like Flat structure for a technology firm, because it really encourages community of practice and build on innovations. Employees can be encouraged/motivated by increasing their salaries or having bonuses upon successful realization of benefits/proceeds from any new project they have created.
Our company was watching this professional video and then an ad started about sexual stuff and bedroom performance. Good going Google 👍
which structure will suit sick leave approval system. for example based on sick leave type the request will move to the person who should approve , like some sick leave should be approved by physician who created it then by the consultant , another type of sick leave should be approved by dept. head after consultant approval , some sick leave should get hospital director if the sick leave is more than 7 day. another challenge is if a person who supposed to approve a request is not available for any reason, how the request can be moved to a person who is temperedly assigned. thanks for the explanation.
I believe this depends on the company size and the role of the employee in that organization. In addition, every company, no matter what structure they have, should have their own sick leave approval system which fit its own company mission, vision, and culture.
whats the best org structure for a small junk food starting business?
awsm video! btw which structure would work best for a creative agency which has multiple junior level editors working under senior level editors
Of course, it depends on the job and size of your agency, But flat structure might fit more for the creative work since it allows more flexibility.

What exactly is the difference between hierarchical and functional structure? Is this video saying that in hierarchical the branches down to the front-line employees are not grouped by specialty? Wouldn't a middle or upper-level manager in the hierarchical structure still be aligned with a particular business function?
Based on the experience from large companies, employees normally get to move up the ladder once they improve their management skills or expertise.

I would have finished this video if it was a real person talking. Robotic voices are a huge quality killer and ruins the entire presentation. Sorry, but that is an immediate dislike from me.
Thanks for your comment. Will work on it.
I'm not native English speaker, I didn't notice it, lol
