I think that if you hear it enough it will get on your top 3. Maro is from Portugal but she's living in Los Angeles. She composed this song with an american friend, and it born in english, suddenly she felt that the song was about her recently deceased grandfather. When she came to explain what she was feeling, only the portuguese word "saudade" felt right to her, then she added some more intimate words to her grandfather(portuguese) and they only made sense in portuguese, so there's why the song is in portuguese and english. The song is very simple but has some production and interpretation subtelties that make it grow on you, like some african undertones in the chorus.
Yes, and it has already grown on me! I really like it. For some reason it also reminds me of the danish song from 1995, Aud Wilken - "Fra Mols Til Skagen". Check it out. I really think they have the same ambience. Calm and soothing. :D
Thank you so much for your honest reaction. That is the point, the world needs peace and this nostalgic song is definitely a peace appealing song, very simple, very honest, very humble. It talks about feelings, about the sadness and emptiness that Maro is feeling about losing her best friend, her grandfather. No fireworks, no frantic dances, just herself, the audience, her grandfather and emotions. Very portuguese but universal at the same time. Thank you so much. Greetings from Portugal.
Hi Gittan, i remember Denmark very well in 1995, I loved it very much! By the way, I loved that year's Eurovision, very good songs. And in 1996 Portugal took Lúcia Moniz's "O meu coração não tem cor". She was with a red dress and with a ukulele, such a nice song also. Huge kiss from Lisboa.. 😘

In 2017, Portugal won the Eurovision with a very simple song, fully in Portuguese. This song is very honest, authentic, ..

Lyrics:
I’ve tried to write
A million other songs but
Somehow I can’t move on, oh you’re gone
Takes time, alright
And I know it’s no one’s fault but
Somehow I can’t move on, oh you’re gone
Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
Tem tanto que trago comigo = There's so much (of him/her) left in me
Foi sempre o meu porto de abrigo = (he/she) was always my safe place
E agora nada faz sentido = And now nothing makes sense
Perdi o meu melhor amigo = I lost my bestfriend
E se não for demais = And if its not too much
Peço por sinais = I ask for a sign
Resta uma só palavra = There's only one word left
Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
Saudade
Saudade
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
Nothing more that I can say
Says it in a better way
I’ve tried, alright
But it’s killing me inside
Thought you’d be by my side always
