  • In this video I share my real world review of the Roborock S7 robot vacuum. I've had the Roborock S7 for about 10 weeks now, so have a good feel for how it fits into my daily life.
    I go over how effective I think it is as a vacuum, the mopping usefulness, some of the functions of the app, and also show you some minor downsides and things to consider if you are looking to add a Roborock S7 to your home.
    If you have any questions, or want to know more about the S7, leave me a comment below, and thanks for watching.

    For filling the water tank. I use 25/75 ratio of vinegar and water. It removes deeper stains and doesn’t harm the tank. There’s a bit of a vinegar smell for 20 mins after cleaning but I set the robot to work in the night so you just wake up to a clean floor and no smell in the morning.

    I got mine for a few years, started with the S5 I believe and now the S7. I still have a manual vacuum for those hard to reach areas but these are great for daily maintenance as I have builder grade carpet upstairs. Saves so much time and energy as I don't want to deal with vacuuming everyday. It's a game changer. Great review btw.

One question 🙋‍♂️- you mentioned that you empty the dustbin every 2-3 days.. do you get an alert by the app or vacuum cleaner that the dust bin is full and it needs to be emptied? Josh great video! Thank you! Is the S7 front wheel troublesome for scratches on hardwood floor?

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Jim, thanks for watching! The front wheel is like a hard plastic with a slightly rubberised feel to it. It spins very freely so I don't anticipate it scratching hardwood flooring. I guess there is always the possibility of some grains of sand getting embedded in the wheel and then the wheel jamming and scratching though, but that would be very unlikely. Roborock recommends routine maintenance on the front wheel so that would show any issues prior to a jammed wheel occurring.

      Thanks for watching! The Roborock site does say it will create maps up to four levels, so the S7 should be able to map each floor and hold them in its memory, but until it learns to climb stairs, you will need to pick it up and put it on each floor! When you place it on a new floor, it will take 20 seconds or so to position itself so it knows what floor it is on, and then will go about cleaning.

    Do you think it'd be possible to put the S7 brush on a S5max? The sides seems exactly the same, so that would be just a question of overall size.
    As the S7 brush handles hairs in a much better way, that would make a great upgrade for the S5max for a very small price :)

    How is the mop lifting function for going over rugs? Does it lift higher enough to avoid wetting a thick rug?

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Sarah, I just measured the gap between the mop and the floor and being conservative its around half a centimeter. If the rug is quite thick, or with a longer soft pile, I'd say it will still get wet by the mop. What you could do though is in the app, draw a 'No Mop Zone' around the rug, so if at any time you have the mop pad installed (it knows when the mop is attached or not), the vacuum will completely avoid that area, and take a path around it. Depending on the layout of your home and what you need to mop, this could be a solution to keep your rug from getting wet.

    • @donr868
      @donr868 2 роки тому +1

      @@iamjoshstunell This is really good info, although I'd say half a centimeter is less than most rugs so sounds like the mop lifting function needs more refinement although as you mention easy enough to do seperate mop vs vaccum runs.

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +7

      Yep! Everytime the vacuum does a clean it will make small updates to the map as it goes around. So if you have something on the floor in one clean, but move it for the next, it's smart enough to recognise that the object has moved and then clean that area it may not have been able to get to the previous clean.

    Thank you for the review, it has certainly made me re-think purchasing another well known brand, my question is I have a split level home would it still work with the mapping, I am thinking I would have to map separately? also I figure I would have to either have a separate dock or move the whole unit the each level ?

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Deed, thanks for watching! For a split level home, I think it would be best to have 2 separate maps. The app has the option for this, so no concerns there. From my understanding, you could get away with just the 1 dock, on say the lower level, and once the vacuum has cleaned that level, you then move the vacuum to the upper level, the robot is smart enough to realise it's then on another map and go about cleaning that, and then once that upper level is complete, it will stop vacuuming, and you would then need to put it on the lower level, either on the dock, or once you put it on the lower level, press the return to dock button and it will find it's way there. That's my understanding of how it would work, but I've not tried it. It may be worth reaching out to Roborock for confirmation on this too.

    Hello Josh. Thanks for the well-thought out review. I am considering purchasing the Roborock S7. I have two questions. First, if someone is home, but does not have the app to control the Roborock S7, can that person still ask the Roborock to vacuum and/or mop, by pressing buttons on the unit? This leads into the second question, which is, can more than one person have the app (or, can two or more cell phones control the Roborock S7 through apps?). iRobot changed their policy, and only one app, on one phone, can control the robot vacuum.

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +4

      Thanks for watching! If you want to clean your home but don't have the app, you can go to the robot while it is at it's dock and press the on/off button on top of the S7 and that will then begin a clean. You also have the option of picking the robot up and placing it near a mess, and then on top of the S7 press the 'Spot Clean' button and that will then clean a 1.5m x 1.5m area centered on the robot.
      As for multiple people using the app, both myself and my partner have the app on our phones and either one of us can control the vacuum as we need. We are both signed in on the same Roborock account. You also have a "Device Sharing" option in the app where you can invite someone in who already has their own separate Roborock account as well.

    Hi I have bought Roborock S7 +. But after two weeks of use, I sent it back because I thought the mopping was lousy. I understand that you have to wet the mop before starting the robot vacuum cleaner. but after half the house, the mop has been wiped off and the robot vacuum cleaner mops a maximum of 7 to 10 cm wide on the floor. the difference between s6v max and s7, is that the water drainage on the s6v max in two places on the mop on each side. which means that the entire width of the mop is constantly wet. while s7 has a single drain in the middle which is not enough to bleed the whole mop, resulting in it mops max 7 to 10 cm max. I would need your opinion on this .. or if I'm doing something wrong

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Mina, that sounds about right I think unfortunately. I've found that I need to wet the mop pad before starting to get the best result, and then the robot water tank just supplements the water already on the damp mop pad. I only have a small amount of hard floors to mop in my place, but I could assume on a larger area of hard floors, the pre-wet mop pad may dry out, in which case it's just relying on the dispensing from the water tank to keep up, which isn't great on it's own. I think the S7 is a great robot vacuum, but just an 'ok' mopping vacuum. You may potentially benefit from a more mopping specific robot if thats a priority for you.

      Hi Danyel, they are both great robot vacuums. The S6MaxV is great if you have pets or often have things on the floor, as the camera system can use it’s artificial intelligence to detect and avoid objects. It can mop your floors but can’t lift the mop when travelling over carpet.
      The S7 doesn’t have the camera system, but it has the mopping system that raises the mop when travelling over carpet, and also vibrates the mop for a better clean. It’s also compatible with the auto-empty dock, where the S6MaxV isn’t.

      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Aditya, both are excellent robot vacuums. The main differences are the S7 is compatible with the auto-empty dock, and can lift the mop pad off the ground when moving over carpet, and mopping is better. The S6MaxV won't work with the auto-empty dock, and can't lift the mop off the ground. But the S6MaxV has a camera system and artificial intelligence to avoid obstacles in your home. So for example, if you have a pet inside that may leave a mess on the floor, the S6MaxV can recognise that, and not vacuum through it. Where the S7 doesn't have the artificial intelligence, and will only avoid walls and furniture.

      S7 - the S6 is neat with the AI functions but not perfect and can run over a pet mess if you're counting on it to avoid them. The S7 also mops much better with the vibrating pad.

    Can you switch off the power after it's 100% charged? I don't want to leave it constantly charging.

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +1

      Hi P2 NF, I've just tried this and you can switch the power off after it is charged to 100%. But by doing this, if you then send the robot out to clean, it won't be able to dock itself afterwards, as the dock needs power on to help the robot locate it.

    Is hair a big issue for the S7?

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +1

      I've found it to be pretty good with hair. I think because of the rubber brush design on the bottom, it helps prevent tangles. You can see in the video when I take the brush out, you still need to give it a clean every 2 weeks, but it doesn't seem to affect the vacuum working from what I can tell.

    Wipe sensors, get hair out of brush bar, refill water, wash mop cloth. Every two weeks/after every use. but then you say it's low maintenance.

    I have a roborock s7+ best little machine iv ever gotten my self. But yeah it's struggling with those doors. That's the only downside. I litle downside is that the mopping works somewhat good but yeah you have to soak the mop before you use it or else it won't work. But you don't realy buy a vacuum machine to mop its nice add on and why its just a small sidenote.

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому

      I definitely agree. It works great as a vacuum, but as a mop, it's just ok. The mopping is a nice feature to have though, and if you do the deep mop and 2 or 3 passes it seems to work better!

    Besides the mop, I'd rather go for a Deebot N8. It's half the price.

    Does it mop and vacuum at the same moment ?

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Saba, yes you can tell it to vacuum and mop at the same time. The mop sits at the rear of the robot, so the vacuum part passes over first, cleans up any loose debris, and then the mop cleans anything left! And because the robot can detect carpet, it will lift the mop up as it detects carpet, and lower again when it detects hard floors!

      @@iamjoshstunell Can you just use it as a vacuum without the mop engaging and vice versa?

    • @iamjoshstunell
      @iamjoshstunell  2 роки тому +1

      @@shanew7361 absolutely! I typically schedule the vacuum only most days. And then sometimes I'll manually mop-only the kitchen floor for example. The app offers plenty of customisation. Vacuum strength, mopping intensity, and on a per-room basis as well.
