I like many things about this film, but the fact that Burton was a "typical American fool in a world he doesn't understand" and that Wang Chi was the real hero endeared it to me.
What makes it even better is that Jack Burton's inability and refusal to understand what Lao Pan is and that it's impossible to beat him is exactly why Jack Burton COULD become the hero by the end, while taking nothing from Wang Chi getting them there.
Johnson would be horrible in a remake. You need an "everyman" as Jack Burton, which Russel plays to perfection. Actually, even the very idea of a remake is horrible.
This is a film that definitely doesn't need to be remade! Whenever modern Hollywood remakes 80s classics they always mess them up, just look at Robocop (2014)!!
Scarface was technically a remake but then it was done in the eighties. Wouldn't get away with his foul mouth today or amount of violence. Probably make Tony into a Cuban quire boy gone wrong instead of a drug dealer. Lol
@@meesalikeu The 80s and 90s were heavy on remakes but they made sense. The advances on technology for practical effects was huge and many films from classic Hollywood had to deal with the Hays code for which the presence of violence and sex themes was cut to the bone. But in terms of what is possible today regarding technology and themes, there´s no major difference to what they did in the 80s and 90s which is why most remakes failed to provide something new (or even good). You guys give critics way too much credit for their power. Sure, a film like Heaven's Gate lives or dies by critics, but popcorn movies live or die by marketing. If they were having a hard time communicating what the movie was, the marketing is going to struggle. Fight Club had the same problem as it was unlike anything else at the time and no one knew how to market it. It relied on people going "you have to watch this" to all their friends, which is too slow for box office success.
Looking at the trailers for Big Trouble and Golden Child... I think the problem with Big Trouble is it's not playing up the humor. It's got a lot of clever touches but it focuses on the action a lot more. Golden Child has hints of action, but it promises comedy. I can see a lot of people being baffled at the Big Trouble trailer as they wonder if it's supposed to be funny or not, because, as Carlin said, think of how dumb the average person is, half the people are dumber than that.
@@KinoReel-c4f it’s contradictory. It should be the cult success of BTILC despite the critics panning it. But I’d better just watch. (Didn’t think you’d respond) 😏

"It has since enjoyed a resurgence on television and home video, and has received a good deal of retroactive positive press. Some critics and fans considered it one of Carpenter's best movies."
Not every story needs a sequel.
@@Lurker_Above , not every movie gets money from DVD. Also it takes decades to return (just to break even) invested money (watch my Waterworld video). Luckily in this case nobody went bunkrupt, nobody was canceled etc. Matrix - this is SUCCESS. Cult status, ton of money, everybod's career skyrocketed, more money fron DVD, part 2, 3 ,4 (and 5 is coming). EVERYBODY benefited, this is what real success means.
I absolutely love big trouble so presumed it was a huge hit.. well i never!!
I like Memoirs of an Invisible Man
Big Trouble in Little China is entertaining, time after time. You can't say that about many movies, can you?
I LOVE Jack and Clint Eastwood, but why would they be in this movie?? Its just another story in the book titled "why studios and their "experts" should never be listened to!!" Long title i know, but its definitely got a ring to it!!😂😂
Edit: then the rest of the video is a few more chapters also!!🤦♂️🤦♂️
To say this was a failure is insane
It clearly said in video box office failure.
This was a very fun movie.
Have you paid your dues Jack? Yes the check is in the mail
For me it is iconic!
Good, keep Dwayne Jackson a far away as possible from this
It's time to drink the magic potion egg. Hey, what's inbut of course magic? Is it real as real as Lopan.
if it was a failure, why are we talking about it?
because you didn't watch my video?
@@KinoReel-c4f it’s contradictory. It should be the cult success of BTILC despite the critics panning it. But I’d better just watch. (Didn’t think you’d respond) 😏
It is a cult classic, just failed to earn $$$. Financial failure is not equal "a bad movie".
Overall I like this movie, and thinks it’s very creative, entertaining and well executed. Kim Cattrel isn’t very good though. She relies too much on reactions and deliveries that don’t play as authentic. I also think Kurt Russell overacts in this role. He too has a tendency to do that when directors allow it, and I think it takes away from his performances.
Best movie ever made
WTF. I LOVED this movie
Why was Nelson Mandela doing on that banner ?😂
This is a classic them and now it's a movie they have no ideal what there talking about
@@arthopkins1715 it is because you didnt watch my video...or you meant chritics?
