- In this video Jason breaks down Connor McDavid's most recent breakaway goal and how he always seems to be able to finish these plays when he gets in tight. Jason highlights his Downhill skating and puck handling techniques and explores the often overlooked aspects of his play, such as his lateral movement upon puck pickup and his use of crossovers to generate exceptional speed and separation from defenders.
📚 Watch as we dissect the key moments of his goal:
- The initial crossover that sets the tone for his acceleration.
- The use of a shuffle on his outside edge, a classic downhill skating mechanic that increases his movement efficiency.
- The strategic deployment of deceleration mechanics, crucial for breakaways, where McDavid skillfully drags his edge to control speed while creating multiple scoring options.
- Keepng the puck square between his legs, opening up "two doors" for potential plays, forcing the goalie to guess his next move.

I mean, how? He was the farthest away from the puck, and he ended up with it in a breakaway. Wow!
Mcdavid Magic!
Mechanical advantage being one major reason.
Great video
Thanks Dylan 👍
Hi. In a previous video you said I should attempt to load the “inner spring” that is my fascial lines around my obliques for free speed. What movements should I do before each stride to load the inner spring? Thanks!
Side to side arm swing, rotation and hip twist 👍
Nice
👍👍👍
Nice video, I think a full slow-mo instead of stills would be good here.
Good point, will consider for future videos.
Where were you when I was 14
Haha appreciate it!
