    That's genius Bryan. Can't wait to have a go at doing it - thanks for sharing this great idea.

    it's easier to shape seat foam if you throw it in the freezer overnight

      Or you can easily cut and shape foam with an electric carving knife with a bit of silicone spray. (Or without it).

    Thanks for posting. I went on 200+ mi. ride last weekend on my fz07 and I noticed how much better my friend's seat was on his fz07 with an aftermarket seat. I think I'm gonna try doing this because my butt was hurting after that ride.

    very nice. I'm wondering if you could reshape the seat slightly and still have a nice fitting cover. I want to create a slight "back" on my boulevard m50 seat so I sit about 3/4" lower.

    is it okay to not cut into the foam and just shape the gel and put on top of foam? I need to raise my position up a bit anyway.

      gargoylefun . it probably won't look that good, but all you can do is try. don't be afraid of failure, you can always take it apart again. do what you can to make it yours. good luck.

      I did this on my Sport Standard, because I also do a lot of riding with cruiser friends and Charity Rides, and, because of some physical injuries, I don't do the full "Track Day" style of hanging off and knee-dragging...so I mainly stay 'planted' in the regular riding position.
      But I used new alcantara material to re-cover the seat. I did very little cutting or re-shaping, except to slightly widen the seat across the middle and rear while keeping the front fairly narrow. I didn't really 'want' the added seat height, but it was unavoidable to get the needed cushioning. I also did a similar mod to the pillion, so a passenger would be more comfortable. The new material looks GREAT, and was pliable enough to get it pulled tight with no wrinkles. And it is a LOT more comfortable!

      you would need to replace the leather, as you need more of it. did you do it?

    can i just ask you why do they give foam to put it on the topside of the gel?? what would happen if i dont have the foam and just put the coverseat over the gel? because am from belgium and i cant translate the word foam i dont understand what it is and what for

    • @bryanjones3996
      @bryanjones3996  7 років тому +1

      it helps hide the line you've cut into the foam to place the gel. don't use it if you dont want.

      Jon Hill , ive done 3000 miles on it, and so far it feels pretty good. I have always wanted to try a mustang seat but don't want the 600 dollar expense. it was a good project and I will continue to use it.

      don't waste your money on mustang seats honestly I have a mustang wide touring o my vtx 1300 and for the first time rode 300 miles and my bum feels like I got paddled by my elementary school principal

      Mustang seat costs more than many recliners! What’s up with that? They’re doing something else with bikers butts than just a seat! 😂👍🏻

  • @ronnorris7821

    The foam that they gave you is suppose to wrap around the seats sides. It's called a smoothing foam. Anyone can see where you cut to deep and didn't wrap the foam all the way around. Not a bad job but not a good job, I've redone 3 of my seats you should have gotten the memory foam with it, it makes a big difference.

    UA-cam tip: Don't ever talk about what you will do. Just do it. If you are using future tense, you are doing something wrong 90% of the time. Get a tripod, get to work, and talk as you work.
