  • The first young large-spotted genet came in towards the end of Oct 2023 having been caught by an African Harrier Hawk. It sustained wounds to the back of its neck and was placed in the dedicated care of Margi for a month. In the meantime another tiny neo-nate was rescued towards the end of Nov 2023 when its nest tumbled from a palm tree onto a concrete surface way below. This little large-spotted genet still had its umbilical cord attached and sustained serious injuries. Unfortunately its sibling never survived the fall. This genet kitten, weighing a mere 88g, was taken in by Karin Squirrell for intensive care and had to initially receive fluids via sub-cutaneous infusion every 2.5 hours throughout the night. The first genet was subsequently transferred into Karin’s care so that both kittens had company.
These two young genets have healed remarkably and are currently in their next phase of rehabilitation at our wildlife centre. Amazing work by our highly experienced and dedicated rehabbers has ensured these little critters are ‘wilding up’ beautifully and they have become quite feisty in the process.
