Not so sure Keegan should engine swap it.. Legend has it those old 80s BMW engines are kinda bulletproof. And considering it's an inline 6 cylinders, it would be easy to pipe it up with a turbo... But definitely worthwhile doing a transmission swap on it.
Man who ever has owned one knows! I did so many donuts in mine when i was young. Ran into a fence, down a ditch, spun out in the median. Never failed me. Now i wish i still had it.

This was charming. Your care for the young man is evident and Keegan's excited "I love this car" during the drive really brought a smile to my face. :) So my first car - mom's 1987 Honda Civic handed down to me around 1991. First car I bought with my own money was in 1995. That was a 1990 Honda Integra XSi. JDM model with first gen VTEC - the one that kicked you in the stomach at 4000 rpm. I then proceeded to own a a 3.2L V6 Honds Legend, also JDM, and thought I'd be a Honda boy for life but then I switched to Ford, BMW, then Range Rover and now utlimately I drive a Toyota Yaris. Absolutely unremarkable in every way and I am grateful for it! (Other Range Rover escapees will know!).
Love it ! E30s rule. Have an '89 and a '90 325ix that I am making roadworthy again. Keep the m20b25 and boost it. Convert to manual. BMW manual trans is butter smooth. More videos please!
the kindness youve shown him will be forever appreciated, however i was disapproving until i heard he flipped his own car, guys gotta learn a thing or two so hes all toughened up for owning such an old girl
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN! That E30 is going to mean the world to him! Im gonna ignore your Blasphemous anti 5 series talk (I heard what I heard, lol)
One of the best videos on the channel in a long time. Really enjoyed seeing a new (not JDM) platform, the diagnosis and then repair. Very educational and informative.
The way I see it, this is perfect. It gives him the chance to get to know the car and how it behaves BEFORE doing an engine swap... plus what 16 year old doesn't want an E30 to cruise around in!
I’m happy that you introduced a bmw in that channel. M20 are actually good apart from that rocker problem. You can boost it ,it will handle around 320hp all day long no problem. Just do the cooling mods as well.
For not having worked on BMW's much, you did a great job! The diagnostic flow, the head removal, prepping all the mating surfaces, knowing to clean out the head bolt holes, properly torquing the new head bolts, you handled it like a pro. I've always said that E30's are a great introduction to wrenching on BMW's, because they have a great community with lots of helpful information, readily available parts (new & used), and they're pretty easy to work on. The M20 head is one of the easier ones to replace/repair, because while there are a few odd quirks, the timing is very simple and everything comes apart in a logical manner. New BMW's on the other hand, are a nightmare of special tools and complicated processes (I'm a former BMW tech that worked on all eras of BMW).
im trying to buy one too been looking for half a year i have some requirement i want it to be a 2 door with gray/silver paint and it has to be an early model (84-87) found a few but they were automatic, that's 4th requirement manual 😁 ill find one eventually
Feeling defeated from my 89 1st Gen Cummins, going thru all the light switches and wiring, have all lights besides low beams and dash lights, everything else works, thanks for the distraction 🤙🇺🇸
So cool!! I had a auto 325I as my first car so this video really resonates with me. If you want some fun mods to make it more lively, obviously a manual swap haha. You should also look into a steering rack swap to make it handle a lot more sporty. Stock M20s are really reliable and are quite fun with a 5 speed behind it, an engine worth keeping 👍
Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I am going to say the swap is a k series with TF Works kit. I'm also going to say great video as always since I tend to always enjoy the videos.
I love that you can help someone and make a living doing it. Awesome video. Great job Caleb. And congrats to keegan. It's rare these days to see a 16 year old kid save up money ro buy a car they actually want. And he flipped that lexus ro make some extra cash. Pretty rad.
Hype, Keegan’s very lucky to have someone to help him get started on a project car and having your shop as a resource will make fixing it way nicer lol
I don’t know a lot about cars, but what I do know that giving a young person the opportunity to explore their passions is so important. Good for you for helping him along the way.
Love to see you working on my favorite car. Such a simple car to work on with endless mod potential. Its the german miata in my opinion with a little more power and 6 cylinders.
Yeah, my first car was a 1990 Ford Festiva automatic with cold AC...and I was pumped to have it. I would neutral drop it and spin the 12" wheels...😂😂😂 I had a 12" Blaupunkt subwoofer with an all Sony stereo system.
