Oh yes! The Kraken MKII! Thoughts?
does the metal one sound more metal than the wooden one?
Got this one for a couple months now and gotta love it, the gain 2 is nasty af and the FX Loop is actually of quality.
Dude, you need to put together another walkthrough of your production skills with cubase and IRs, drum programming etc. Your mixes are so crisp and slamming. Always impressive!! I have too many amps rn and need to focus on production/mixes more.
I’d be very into that
I'd like to see that too although I'm a logic guy, and I'm with you I have a good collection of high gain tube amps and find myself just jamming but don't record much anymore because to me it's not easy to make it sound how I thought it would and because I don't know enough about mixing and all, it takes up too much time that I really don't have
Amp sounds great, but man, really dug the riffs. Good stuff! :)
Thanks a lot!
Riffology 101, fully agree
Jon, as always, the tones are absolutely on point and the riffs are outstanding. You're one of my favorite channels to watch, I feel like someone secretly sent you a list of my favorite things when it comes production and riffs!
Thanks! That means a LOT!
You know, this is a great sounding amp and this new Mk2 version definitely addresses some of the tonal requests from players, but I feel that there were some lost opportunities here. An amp head this size is very well suited for studio work and not having either a built in Line out or XLR, a load box, or a noise gate (like the Engle Fireball 25 for example) are all missed opportunities - especially given the direction that lower wattage amp head designs have been going these days.. Maybe Mk 3 ?
I think they enclosure size is a big reason why but also consider that those things will make the amp more expensive, and many players already have either a noise gate or load.
Or the amp will be ridicliously expensive if you put those options on it or the price stays the same but they have to cut quality on other things, I owned an Engl Ironball e606 SE and it had all the features you could get build in the amp but it was only 1200 euro's and you could tell especially the FX loop that it was terrible compared to this amps FX loop.
This sounds so much better then the last iteration. Awesome riffs! 🤘🏻
Thanks! Yeah it's a great upgrade!
Jonnnnn! Dude, that One riff in the first demo track is WILD! Great job, man!
Thanks a lot!
This demo was beyond outstanding. Great tones and shows how much this amp can do. Awesome job!
Damn, your riffs are just so SICK - as usual!
Thanks! :)
Great demo. Love that song that you did with Channel 2. Amazing riffs
I've always liked the sounds of Rabea. Thus I pay attention of Victory Amps as well. And now this surpizingly small box with huge tones makes next level of Kraken sound. At last but not least I have to mention the tunes you played. Absoulutely mesmerizing, had to listen to them again. Cheers!
Awesome, thanks so much!
Love it. I recently got the "compact head" wooden version of this and I couldn't be happier
That yellow ltd is so sick, I need one
I wasn't a big fan of the Super Kraken clean channel either, it felt almost like putting the guitar through the FX return. This sounds like a much more pleasant way to do a clean channel. Feels like an updated Super Kraken should be on the way! I'd definitely buy that. They could also add a resonance control and make all my Victory dreams come true.
I never played one but my understanding from afar was channel 1 was a jcm 800 and channel 2 a 5150 and therefore it didn’t really have a clean channel - but acknowledge I could be mistaken
@@stug5041 The Super Kraken had a dedicated clean channel.
That was My definition of edge of breakup. You know, where the tone is clean but literally on the edge of breakup so when you strum harder it gets a little grit. So I love that you referred to it that way - it’s a very loosely used term.
I’d say you’ve gotten my favorite tones out of this thing yet. Ones that I personally would use. I absolutely LOVE Rabea but I’m not necessarily trying to cop his tones … bc I don’t (can’t- lol) play like him.
Your riffs are always great, but today was something special
Thanks so much!
00.58 you smashed it right there! What a riff and a killer sound!
This amp is fantastic
That riff at 1:00 is awesome and after reminds me of some Norma Jean! Best riffs I’ve heard from you to date! This amp is in my top 5 amps of wanting after owning the Kraken preamp pedal
Oh I love that unhinged sounding riff happening at 1:00
Glad you dig it!
That riff at around 10:30 is great, and the one near the start with the harmonics.
Broooooooooo-tal!!! Such a great range on that amp. I'm a sucker for a great clean channel. Especially on an amp that can melt your face too. Great riffffs!
Thanks man!
Great sounding amp, but INCREDIBLE playing on the intro song❤
Wow it sounds amazing. That presence control adds so much more control.
Yeah I agree! So much more versatile
sounds great Jon, big kudos for your riffs/compositions showing each tone, really solid work
it almost sounds like the lower the guitar is tuned somehow the better the amp sounds 😄something in the voicing i guess that really compliments those tunings
Yeah it's amazing for low tunings!
Hi Jon! Awesome demo! Are you planning to make captures of this amp?
sounds massive that demo song was heavy as balls
Cheers!
This sounds freakin amazing!
DUDE! When is the album coming out? You've got enough killer riffs to do something with them! Good video too :)
Absolutely brutal tone Jon 🤟
It's a great amp!
Hey!! Very cool video ! Do you know other 30 to 50w amps that are light like this amp ? (Except the dual terror?) thanks again for the video !
Ouuuuuuuch can we talk about the masssiiiiiiiiiiive riffs you've got in this vid (and this intro omg) :0
Love the Kraken ! It has a nice middleground between a beefy, aggressive, and tight, articulate tone
Thanks so much! That middle riff in the first song is one of my favorites! I came up with that when I was outside riding my bike haha! As soon as I came home I had to record it. Fun! ;)
Great sounding amp! Kind of has that 5150/6505 family sound. But smoother. Not spikey.
And that clean channel... *chef's kiss*
They nailed the clean channel!
Agreed all around. You can hear 5150 influence but there’s something way different in the mids. Growlier, drier sounding and it’s like the 5150 sizz is there but the frequency got lowered.
Where do these fucking riffs come from!?
Fantastic 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I don't know haha. They just come
@@SonicDriveStudio they’re wonderful
Nice !!
I will be recommending The Kraken MKII to people who want a high gain amp from now on. The sound is subjective to a point, but it covers the bases very well.
The reason why I like Victory compared to say Mesa/Peavey is the construction and layout. They just build a higher quality product that can be more easily repaired by competent techs.
They’re not perfect, but for ~$1600 you get a lot.
Ive been torn between getting the Mark II or an EVH Stealth 50 next for my collection... The pain is real.
this sounds sooooooo GOOD
Yesssssss! :)
Awesome
Sounds Killer!
Cheers mate!
bro your riffs are second to none
Thanks!
It's a monster!
Song(s) fucking ruled dude. I love your riffs!
Thank you!
Man that first riff intro was absolutely wonky yet brutal in the best of ways! Sounds like some happy Deftones jam then descended into a psychotic lapse lol
Haha thanks!
I think someone should give me money to buy me a kraken 2. Or just give me one. Lol hey a guy can dream can't I?
But it sounds awesome and thank you sir for covering it.👍
Got my MKII yesterday. I never played the OG version but rolling the presence knob all the way down was way too dark for my liking so I get the complaints.
Overall I really like it but haven't gotten a chance to take it on stage. I would say that I can feel the lack of punch theses small lunchbox amps have vs a bigger iron 50w amp like the badlander and my 50w SLO. They hit WAY harder but this Kraken is by no means quiet... still PLENTY loud for stage.
I think Gain II loses a little too much grunt in the low end for my personal liking but boosting gain I sounds EXCELLENT and Gain II is still plenty usable.. it's a nitpick about the sound really.
🔥
DAT RIFF !!!!!!!!!! OMFG!
Haha! Cheers!
I wonder how it compares to Archon now. They are both known to be mid forward and thick sounding amps. Could we expect a comparison? :)
The Archon is more fat, dark and loose but also cool. Clean on the Kraken is nicer, for my taste anyway
Do you use the same guitar when you double track? Ever run into phasing issues?
Yes, and no. If you double track you shouldn't get phase issues
Whoa
Fucking killer riff man 🔥
Man this tone is so good ! so stringy and sexy
Is there a new mk2 version of the vx100?
No, not yet anyway
ok thanks@@SonicDriveStudio
I have emailed Victory to inquire
@@SonicDriveStudio
mijn hemel! monster tone
Heavy!
Sounds like a nicer 6505
I was waiting for a ten string guitar
Haha! Sorry to disappoint
This or EVH stealth? God I can’t decide
This
@@SonicDriveStudio ok now “this” or Marshall JVM 410h? The Marshall is now only $1800 is why I’m throwing it in the mix. I’ve got the Friedman BE 100 deluxe it can get heavy but really modern high gain chug isn’t really where it shines. In videos I’m really digging the cut and presence of the Marshall. I know you’ve got 1 so if you had the Friedman already would you still think that would be a feasible option for something more aggressive and modern? I just like the price for all you’re getting with the Marshall. Watching more videos on the kraken I don’t know I feel like it may be too dark for what I’m going for? I did really want to get a 6L6 flavored beast to have in my setup though. These decisions are so hard when you can’t have them all hahaha!
The only thing I am missing is the little UK flag hanging from the handle.
DUDE you packed all the riffs into your lunchbox today!
John, I fucking love your riffs man! You should put out a record.
Right now the only thing I'm thinking of is that riff. Damn, dude! That f*ckn rips!
Haha awesome!
It's a monster!
