I know people who lived through the Nov 85 WV flood who would tell you that flood made the national news for a couple of days and that was it. Though I wouldn't compare the 2 events because I personally believe this flood was a one of a kind event and likely the single most devastating mountain flood event in US history. Still it should come as no shock that the news media has moved on from covering the aftermath. When an event doesn't involve a big city or hundreds of thousands of people that's what the media does. That's the cold, hard and impersonal truth.

She not only has gotten involved in helping receive donations & is purchasing sheds that her family, and others are volunteering to make into tiny houses but she is trying to teach people how to grow their own food when they are able by using the Hydroponic Towers. She Grows her own vegetables year round! It is beautiful to watch her harvest the variety of food & walk rt next door to harvest & cook.

And in the beginning of the storm, I was hearing (on/in the news) that they opened that dam to release pressure! That's usually what they do so that it doesn't break and then tell the people that it broke! Dirty, dirty games they play! So happy to see people finally waking up though.... 🙏🏼 for all of these families!
i believe it was overtopped, but didn’t fail. when we were working in the area it didn’t appear to have given way, just water went over and around the structure of the dam.
No dams broke during the hurricane…some dams breach where water goes over the dam. Lake Rhodhiss dam (between Caldwell and Burke) further down in foothills closer to where I live the water runs over that dam when there is a lot of rain.
I’m from Pa and have been following all this daily. It’s heartbreaking to realize the devastation but even worse when you find out our government isn’t helping to it’s full capability. A group of us sent supplies from up here in early October and I have donated to a couple of reputable organizations. I will continue to follow and post only quality information to my feed. Keep up the good work.

we started our family in Asheville over 30 years ago but moved away 20 years ago. Asheville has always had a very high homeless population. it would not surprise me even a little to hear over 200 homeless are dead or still missing just from Asheville, add Arden, Fletcher, Hendersonville, Bat Cave, etc, plus all of the campgrounds both public and private, legal and illegal, known and unknown encampments and I would not be surprised if the number isn't closer to 500.

As I sit in my living room crying from sadness of the flooding of Helena. I find myself overwhelmed with the joy and outreach from so many. I myself don't have the means of financial support. I would open my door to a family in need. Seeing this video has hold heartedly moved me.

No dams broke during the hurricane…some dams breach where water goes over the dam. Lake Rhodhiss dam (between Caldwell and Burke) further down in foothills closer to where I live the water runs over that dam when there is a lot of rain.
I’m from Pa and have been following all this daily. It’s heartbreaking to realize the devastation but even worse when you find out our government isn’t helping to it’s full capability. A group of us sent supplies from up here in early October and I have donated to a couple of reputable organizations. I will continue to follow and post only quality information to my feed. Keep up the good work.

If the little boy and his parents are not locals, then surely someone is by now aware of a mother and father and little boy who they haven’t heard from in months?
That’s what I was wondering. They have to have family looking for them? Surely someone knew they went on vacation or camping to the area too I’d think. I pray they are able to be identified and properly buried 😢❤
That is what is astonishing to me too, that this hasn’t been on the news every night. I’m just heartbroken for these people, but grateful for the heroes that step forward to help their community.

Hurricane Helene caused this, not the dams. Too much rain and then the Hurricane. It is a natural disaster.

we started our family in Asheville over 30 years ago but moved away 20 years ago. Asheville has always had a very high homeless population. it would not surprise me even a little to hear over 200 homeless are dead or still missing just from Asheville, add Arden, Fletcher, Hendersonville, Bat Cave, etc, plus all of the campgrounds both public and private, legal and illegal, known and unknown encampments and I would not be surprised if the number isn't closer to 500.

As I sit in my living room crying from sadness of the flooding of Helena. I find myself overwhelmed with the joy and outreach from so many. I myself don't have the means of financial support. I would open my door to a family in need. Seeing this video has hold heartedly moved me.
