Since the charged shots do I more damage I've only been charging them, seems like I have to change that and tap my shots more lol

they do more dmg, but you take time to charge them up. So when you tap you can get more auto dmg off so your dmg worth is higher then when you hold it. You only wanna hold when you are playing more range. Cuz you get range for holding!

Is tapping generally better than holding for dps output?

tapping is better for dps. Holding is only better when you want the extra range. And using hold for b-hopping
