Harry Potter: Behind The Filming Of Underwater Scenes

- When the incredible Harry Potter team brought the movies to life, they had a lot to live up to, and luckily when it came to all the underwater scenes that happen throughout the series, they succeeded. It looked incredible in the final cuts, but the process to get there was far from easy as actors faced freezing temperatures and tricky logistics.
Daniel Radcliffe actually got two ear infections while filming for the Triwizard tournament while Rupert Grint was concerned his heart was going to stop after being dropped into freezing water! The Victor Krum actor actually had to overcome a major phobia of deep water while filming his parts and Cedric Diggory actor Robert Pattinson was totally disoriented, unaware of what direction he was facing or how the scene was meant to look.
None of these scenes would have been possible without the incredible crew who built the largest underwater filming tank in all of Europe - it could hold half a million liters of water! Unfortunately, the tank wasn’t heated making it a not-so-pleasant experience for the performers. It was quite the test of endurance since Radcliffe spent a full six weeks filming underwater scenes and six months of training prior. Luckily the Harry Potter actor had a secret underwater escape as well where he could be dry while underwater!
As if the filming days weren’t long enough, Radcliffe needed to have an hour and a half worth of silicone prosthetics done before shooting.
The creation of these incredible scenes was thanks to brilliant work from every team member - and it’s clear not one person didn't give it their all!

Dan is a professional, watching this type of videos makes me realize how physical was all the acting , and makes me admire him more!
Lol
Hats off to Dan and the whole crew 🫡🫡❤️🥺 best movie ever
Fun Fact: Harry’s diving suit was actually orange so it didn’t look brown in the water
Underwater Scenes are fabulous 👌
That would be a horror for me, I'm really scared of a deep water. Well done :)
Yep! It’s not easy
CGI so fascinating. always so amazed how technology can be. 🤯🤯
Huge props to Dan
It always fascinates me in any films how they manage to film scenes, in sets like this. Takes time, training and effort. I’m so impressed with the actors and production crew who managed to bring the final project to life
My eyes can’t even open underwater (not really, but it will hurt a lot)
Shooting 10 seconds at a time under water! Must’ve taken them forever.
I always wondered how they film underwater scenes.
Me too
Well nowadays it is not necessary to do that. Watch the behind the scenes of The Little Mermaid live-action film. Most (if not all) of the underwater scenes were filmed in a studio with the actress suspended in the air. All the magic happens with CGI
Not me experiencing multiple ear infections and 6 burst ear drums and a doctor telling me I can't go under water anymore...(that was a depressing time)
1:52 seriously... I just held my breath for 40 seconds right now
I Miss Harry Potter 🥺
Amazing video 👍
Are there any other behind the scenes with a cast member having to scuba dive for an underwater scene in other movies, whether if there character was scuba diving or like how Daniel Radcliffe's was here?
THAT WAS AMAZINGGG
Another Awesome VideO As Always * 💋

I was always curious as to how underwater scenes were filmed.
It’s crazy really I’m an actress and being one who watches themselves it’s strange how different it’s looks.

So Daniel Radcliffe cannot swim properly and he also can't drive vehicles properly either
He was a child
So Daniel Radcliffe is a terrible swimmer and driver as he can't swim properly he can't drive cars properly either so he trained to become a better swimmer but still terrible at driving vehicles
