Played on default difficulty (the difficulty in this game changes your health bar/continues but not the enemies health or how much damage you and your enemies can deal).

Pity you never beat it, I beat it a few times growing up, I loved the game as a kid, so I sank many many hours into it.
Love the extra 'stamp on the peasant' villainy that you just don't get in the Mega Drive port. It's like the mooks don't care there's some lunatic dwarf that killed everyone in their path, they're just going to die doing what they love. Stamping on the peasants. Top tier villainy.
Holy shit, I just figured out that a lot of the screaming sound effects came from Rambo First Blood! Awesome!!!!

I love this game, I used to always play it with my dad growing up, but the reason I'm commenting is because this theme reminds me of my pet jumping spiders, because it's so happy, and they're the least intimidating spider ever, and they're so happy.
Always loved the death screams of the enemies.

1:22 Making mooks drop off of cliffs *NEVER* gets old lmao. I once did the elevator stage of Streets of Rage throwing all but two or three guys over the edge. I imagined this big ass pile of splattered punks and kung fu assholes at the bottom. Next time I play, I'm gonna toss all of them.

Great play through! I am only familiar to the Genesis port, so it was nice to see the differences! That ending curtain call is hilarious!

the attacks seem to do allot more damage in this version
it's difficulty easy... you can change it in menu.

noturnoandre1 There’s a thing called “settings”. Just simply press a simple hidden command and I boot up the settings showing if I wanna turn the violence on/off, change the blood color, input how many lives I want, set credit play to free play, change whatever difficulty each game offers, and many, many more. If I’m done, I select the exit door and the game reboots with its new stats. Take it from a guy learning how MAME works.

This game have the best sound of any Arcade. The slashing sound followed by two knocks *tonk-tonk on the head of bad guys are too cute to mention. One of my fav moves was to get two bad guys aligned left and right. Then unleash just one slash, left-right, left-right. This move get the other bad guys off your back and you have the luxury of working just these two blokes. When done, target the next duo and repeat until end of game. But beware, there is very little room for error with this move, especially when up against the skeleton crews.

I remember back in 1989 when this arcade was in a shop by my house in the corner with 3 other arcades and one day as I was playing golden axe, some teen came by and broke into the arcade and left it unlocked for me so I can play for free only if I kept my mouth shut. I played and mastered this game in a week and I skipped school and got a good good whipping but it was worth it cause now I got an awesome story for anyone wanting to know about how arcades were back then . This game and Double Dragon 2 will always remind me that my childhood was awesome. The ending always had me in tears up until this day cause I wish monsters were chasing after me lol

Played this game for 30+ years, today I learned that Death Adder's minions disappear after he dies. I always killed them first!

Beautiful run but you were killing me during the battle with Death Adder by holding on to the potions till the end.
Haha yea I misread how much damage I did since the potions were supposed to finish the fight. The skeletons are much more dangerous than the humans so just avoiding having them spawn is a much better option.

thanks man, first game I ever tried to speed run so I buggered the time a few times but it was fun!
A few of the death screams from this game were borrowed (and heavily digitized) from the movie Conan the Barbarian starring a young Arnold "I had to google his name for the proper spelling" Schwarzenegger. Great movie, check it out if you haven't already. One of the best original scores of all time.
The "Aaahh Gaaad!" death scream was borrowed from First Blood, the first Rambo film, when the policeman gets impaled on a spike trap.
This brings back memories, except I would have died 100 times while making the video.
This is so different from my experience in the dos version, the environment, the villagers. But I realy like the pc speaker sound. Nothing can beat that.
Ya all the versions are very different. the sega version has a whole other level with an incredibly tough final boss.
I like his redesign better. He actually looks bulkier and a tiny bit younger than how he is here.

I never could understand why in GA2 they changed his lightning to falling pebbles/rocks to spinging vortex of rocks ?? And why they didnt do an arcade version of 2 and 3

I've watched this many a times but can somebody tell me why the jumping "axe/sword to the head" attack is so strong? (A 1 hit kill) That or the rolling attack? Was the game poorly coded and the developers did not realize these two over powered moves? 🤔

I never knew you could do a rolling attack.
All characters have a reverse attack by pressing attack and jump togther. Gilius is the best as he does this distant roll instead of just spinning.

*Fun fact: the samples if the men screaming came from a Stallone movie. The ugh, ugh, ugggh-ah is a scene where a guy is thrown off of a bridge. I'm pretty sure it's one of the Rambo movies. Think they paid to use the sample? ;)*

I call bull, something was altered. A high jump attack on level 1 has to hit twice to kill an enemy.
this is the arcade version and you are 100% wrong dude. Load it up yourself if you wanna see.
You might be thinking the high weapon swing. His was a plunge attack.

How are you one hitting everything? I have the original and it takes quite a few hits for each enemy
arcade has different damage numbers, can 1 shot a majority of the human sized enemies with a plunge attacks. Sega version is different and enemies take more hits but Plunge will still do massive damage.

now the title makes sense, i dont know why in the gens version the axe is silver
it is very strange but the story actually has death adder stealing the golden axe so this axe isnt even the golden axe lol.
its better a golden axe that isnt story related that none lol cause i dont remember the death adder one being golden either haha
I believe it was changed to silver in the Mega Drive version due to hardware limitations with the palette size (number of unique colours in a single sprite).

why this game is 2 short in arcade version?
A extra stage was added in to the Sega Genesis Version when that came out later, Death Bringer Boss Fight and such.
The Mega Drive/Genesis version added some extra bits of gameplay to compensate for the downgraded cosmetics.
I prefer this to the watered down Genesis Version as that version doesn't have that same feel to it.
I really enjoy how much more detail and color there is in the arcade version. It would of been great to have the bonus stage along with it but that came our later.

What version of the game is this, because it doesn't look like the Genisis version.
Its the arcade version. Genesis version has the extended level where you fight death bringer.
Played GA on PC, that version has an extra level.
the genesis version also has the extra level with death bringer, wicked boss.

It's missing tge last level! Once you save those two there is an inside level
this is the arcade version, the sega genesis version added the last level with death bringer.

Steven Henderson yeah I noticed that too. Gilius never one shot anyone when I played the arcade version. Also why does the animal attacks take more to kill the enemies than the axe? That doesn't make any sense.
Why are the enemies so easy to kill???? They aren't so easy on the version I play....sega megadrive classics on the ps4.
This is the arcade cabinet version, enemies are much weaker and the game is shorter.
Connor Macgregor is the obvious choice...
