Fantastic run! I really expected this to be a glitchfest given how short the time was, not being familiar with how speedrunning Golden Axe was and seeing the time. Seeing that it was all just execution was mindblowing and have to say I laughed when EVERYONE (including you) went into the pit.
Amazing run Mug! You and the couch were great! Looking forward to seeing you at another GDQ event.

I found this run to be enlightening: it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, skeleton or knight, everyone ends up in the pit in the end.
Being an enemy in this game must really be the pits.
This game was so difficult for me as a child. This is quite cathartic for me.
why? do you have no arms? I watched a dozen people complete this game on their first attempt the day they put it in the arcade. I got to the last level myself. It's ones of the easiest ones of this type of games.
I remember always playing it but never beating it myself. Then again I was likely younger than 10 when playing it. I wonder if I’d stand a chance now.

The arcade where i played as a child time had incredible bad controls, and sometimes the button did not worked..
It was a show if someone finish the game..
Brings back a lot of childhood memories, didn't get to play games much. But when I got to play this I'd sit there for hours... if not days.

Wish I knew these tricks when I was a kid! This gave gives me a lot of nostalgia, one of the best Genesis games!

The smart and difficult and skillful (and fast) way is shown here. The dumb and easy but slower way is to just dash attack from one end of the screen to the other. As long as you can position the enemies individually or in groups at the edges of the screen and keep the center clear, the game is totally beatable. Just takes a lot longer. Also, 'everyone into the pit'.
Oh my God, I had no memory of this game until I saw the character select and was suddenly like, "Wait, I've seen these people before..." We had a disc on our Dreamcast that had a bunch of older games on it, and this was one of them. I'd totally forgotten about it until just now.

Learned some nice tricks watching this
This was my crack as a kid. I was a huge fan of both the arcade and Genesis.
The only trick I used that I didn't see in this run was was getting the hammer brothers on stage 3 to jump off the corner where the wood touches the stone. If you trick then to run past you a quick up down confuses the AI and they drop off the bottom of the screen. You don't even need to touch them.
Ahh yes I am familiar with this trick :D I was trying to pull off another trick that takes them out in like 5 seconds with downstabbing them. I just screwed it up :P I like the trick you mentioned though, it's funny to just see them fall off the bottom of the screen like that hahaha
It is, like the collision just turns off for a second. I did by accident once and then struggled to replicate it, took forever to get consistent.
Makes me want to fire this up again. Back when I played this I set a goal to never be touched while killing as many enemies as possible via cliff death.
Too bad it screws up a speed run otherwise you could include the flying golden knights. I am sure you are aware that unless you hit them he golden knights don't fall when standing over a pit. That also looks really funny.
Interesting. I finished this probably a couple of hundred times back in the day thought I knew all the ways to cheese the enemies but this is insane.
No "shout out" needed for a voice actor on the death screams. That's a straight rip from Conan the Barbarian when Thorgrim dies to the spear trap near the end. Also fun fact, Thorgrim was played by Sven Ole Thorsen you can also see him die awesome deaths in Conan the Destroyer, Twins, Gladiator, and Predator.

Game was sweet as a kid. No-one believed me in the playground when I said you can kill the skeletons in Stage 8, they assumed I was making it up because they have so much health. For me, they're the game's true final bosses.

It's sad that to this day no one does speedruns of the DOS version. It's really fun and full of glitches. For example, you can just knock the first stage of Death Adder off the screen if you hit him with a jumping attack right when he comes out the door. How's that for a quick boss kill?
