Final Demo level design is fun to go back to, because since playing it as a kid I've played Doom and I can now pick up on the very clear influences. Parts of THZ to this day are callbacks to areas in Doom levels, but they're more clear here, and CEZ in Final Demo is very clearly showing that influence in its level design, from switch hunts to monster closets.
sweet vid! are you ever going to do a review of SRB2: The Past? I'd understand if it's too lengthy for a video, it's pretty much all SRB2 history packed into one mega level pack
Small correction, i'm pretty sure it's just a straight up port of the levels from back then rather than a remake. Every other version of those levels that i've seen in ports to 2.2 are the exact same, so i don't doubt they all ported it from the same place. And in my opinion, it did have less polish back then, but it feels more like it has its own charm that 2.2 doesn't have than just being worse entirely. Not like 2.2 lost the "charm", it just feels like it has its own now.
Yeah... I kinda forgot to include him in the script. He was a nice surprise, I generally think that SRB2 bosses that skew on the harder side can get very annoying pretty quickly.
A similar mod to this is Demo Quest Zone made by Inferno. It’s the same idea, but instead of Final Demo, it’s Beta Quest (SRB2 as it was supposed to be released back in 1998)

Yeah, I immediately thought of DOOM when seeing the enemy closets in CEZ Act 2.

Probably someday!

Ouch...

I enjoy Final Demo Zone itself but I dislike how the sprites and screen lighting are the same, not giving such a nostalgic feeling.
If you want to see how srb2 evolved, you should look at srb2 the past.
I'm sad that you didn't mention how they replaced the boss of final demo with ugly knux as a reference to his appearance in the final demo days.

(Also screw you UA-cam for not notifing me
)
The old versions have have way more outdated instrumentation being very ancient midi compositions, but I still prefer it probably due to nostalgia.
