At 3:27 you see a nightstick mounted and there is a story behind it. My dad was partners with his dad Ralph who lost his eye in an altercation and forced to retire because of it, my father broke his own nightstick over the felon and Ralph told him to keep it. Many years later my father was promoted to Sgt. and presented the stick to the Mayor which I have pictures of and he was always grateful and if my dad needed something it was done no question. You can Bank on Frank!
I worked at the Holiday Inn on 18 th & market st. The officers who rode the horses would come there on Fri. Even. And sit in the section in the back and drink coffee. Stay there a good while, they would only sit in the back booth where a waitress named Marge worked. I always remember them because I worked nights. Maybe even Rizzo or his brother ate there. It was very popular in the 80 s
He served on the USS Houson which was sunk in a naval engagement on March 1st of 1942. He was very lucky to have been discharged before then. The USS Houston had a crew of 1,061 but only 368 of them survived the battle. Those survivors were forced to work on the Burma Railway where another 77 before the war's end.
