    you can also bypass that crap for zero cost if done under the hood or with a U shaped hose and two connectors from below and connect the two hoses shown, I'm going to do this on mine even before it starts leaking, it's seems like quite an useless feature for the problems and expensive repair it can bring you, this is mostly for anti pollution regulations and just cabin comfort in winter, fuel efficiency ?

    My 2016 Toyota Prius has a refrigerant leak. I fill it up every day and it runs empty a few hours later. I don't see any signs of leaks on the chassis. I've driven it for about 270,000 miles. Toyota Longo 4s said it would cost $4,800 to repair it because they found water in the engine with a probe. Is this crazy? Such an expensive repair bill!

Currently my odo is 51K. and Check Engine gave these codes P00B111, P011511, P148F00 AND P319000 the dealer is saying engine has to be replaced. • @pinoymechaniccanada

      You don't need to test, if you see the coolant sign on exhaust pipe flange the heat exchanger is faulty, you have to replace new exhaust pipe assembly. The last part of the video you can see how much coolant was inside the exhaust.

    Weird problem. 2012 Prius, 145k miles. Oil changed religiously at every 10K, 0W20 full synthetic. Never driven at low coolant levels. Sudden loss of coolant on the highway. drove 200 miles one way, no problem. on the way back, stopped at every rest area to add DI water, i.e. every 30 miles or so. In each case, there is still some water in the plastic tank. Engine runs smooth, accelerates smooth, purrs like a cat. No white water vapors in the exhaust. Took apart the front, and looked for pink residue around connections and radiator seal lines. No pink residue. Rubber hoses are tightened with original spring clamps, but no pink leaks. Electric water pump is clean. However, there is pink residue at the back of the plastic overflow tank, the firewall and the drive shaft. Sometimes the leak is so big, that it ends up on the front passenger tire and the passenger side doors. How does it go from inside to the OUTSIDE the vehicle is a mystery. Check engine never shows up. The high temperature light comes on and off, sometimes flashing, sometimes solid, then disappears. Driving around town seems no loss so far. Planning to do a pressure test and exhaust fumes test later on today.

      That’s a blown head gasket but it’s external meaning it does not interfere with engine operation. Only symptoms is loosing coolant and probably some oil as well. Only time it will overheat is due to too much coolant loss. That’s how a blown head gasket start on these Prius. Starts as mysterious coolant loss eventually the overheating caused by it will eventually damage the engine by making the head gasket more several and the overheating causes engine knock

    • @west_park7993
      @west_park7993 9 місяців тому

      @@ronaldoquintos1675 I do not see loss of coolant on the engine head. I tested the pressure, it stays at 12 psi forever. I checked for exhaust gases in the coolant, negative. My next guess is an air lock. Will apply vacuum on the coolant system and run the engine. Under vacuum the bubbles grow bigger and the flow will pish them out of the system. I wrote a letter to Toyota HQ yesterday. To see if they have TSB on this.

    • @west_park7993

      Update: Toyota tested it with boroscope and declared blown head gasket. I opened it, and the gasket appears to be fine. I asked 2 different independent specialists. One said, that if the gasket is out, there is no way of knowing. The other looked carefully, and said: right here, probably. the crack is so small, you cant tell, but there is some discoloration on the edge. At this point I am almost done with puting it back together, i replaced most seals, gaskets, orings, etc. At 150k, it is a good idea to place in some fresh rubber.... There are some cursed bolts that are near impossible to place. The one on the bottom of the egr heat exchanger... i just gave up. it is held by two on the front and two more at the exhaust connection.... the piece you are talking in this video is very exotic. not found on rockauto, and ebay only has a couple of used once. i keep my fingers crossed it was really the gasket, not this damn heat exchanger.

    The garage just started to smell like burnt coolant, and I noticed two small puddles of coolant on each side of the passenger front tire. (Only about a couple tablespoons. The coolant looked like it was covering the passenger wheel-well, too. The engine reservoir only needed a splash to top it off. I don't see any leaks from above, or signs of leaks, pink crust, etc. It doesn't seem like this is a symptom of the exhaust/heat exchanger system from what I've been reading -- do you know what it might be?

    • @pinoymechaniccanada
      @pinoymechaniccanada  Рік тому

      Mostly on the passenger is a water from air-condition drain hose. If your coolant reservoir is always low could be somewhere is leaking, I suggest to bring at Toyota shop for proper diagnose

    • @ronaldoquintos1675
      @ronaldoquintos1675 9 місяців тому

      Toyota dealer don’t know nothing worth a crap. My customers just been to Toyota and paid 300 dollars to diagnose why car is loosing coolant. They couldn’t find anything so he brought it to my shop “PRIUSTEC” of Houston Tx. Sure enough blown head gasket (external type) to see if head gasket is blown. Jack up car and look at left side of engine ( side that’s behind the engine bay) if you see oil seeping from where engine block and cylinder head mate then you have a blown head gasket. Coolant will usually leak towards the front of engine where passenger from tire is. I’m working on one right now same problem. It’s tricky to diagnose because coolant is not getting into the cylinder like a common head gasket failure. Engine runs fine except you have to keep topping off coolant

    @pinoymechaniccanada - - Please comment: My 2014 Prius with 233,000 miles is experiencing coolant leak.
    My car still runs good. No engine shake. I usually drive fast 75-85 mostly Texas intrastate,
    The check engine light randomly comes on and then goes off after a while.
    Code P0117
    The Temp warning light comes on randomly after driving a while then goes off when I slow down.
    I don't see any smoke or liquid coming from the tailpipe or leaking anywhere. I do have to add coolant (about a quarter reservoir) about once a week.
    Yesterday I had to refill the entire reservoir with coolant after a 2-hour drive driving 80-85, Then next day drove the same 2 hours at 65 and did not lose any coolant.
    Took my Prius to Toyota to check it out. They said they could find no leak but, I need to replace my engine and the water pump. They did not tell me why?
    To me, it appears to be a leak of coolant into the catalytic converter.
