Song starts at 1:51.
Excellent! Wonderful!
Much more complex than the original, without losing the original melodic line. Impeccable arrangement and execution. Congratulations! And thank you, thank you very much!
OK, so I see this & I’m like...”How is Stewart gonna pull this off, he doesn’t play a flute!” But damn if ya’ didn’t, Stewart! Bravo from across the pond sir! Bugger me! Damn good!
All I can say is “my god” Stewart…. you are a freaken genius!! Amazing This is a top 12 Tull song for me!
You have become THE reference when it comes to Jethro Tull acoustic covers. Period. In such a short time, I mean, that's amazing!
There are a couple others more (Andrea Vercesi being the other main one, in my opinion), but you've done so many songs, like... wow
The first two keynotes hit and I knew this was going to be a great cover! Cheers!
Persistence + Patience + Practice = This. Fantastic.
Simply, utterly, divinely wonderful.
I really cannot say any more.
How can someone dislike this video? Such a nice lovelly man
This is the song that "broke" me when I first heard it in my youth, it still hits me emotionally to this day...
Wonderful cover, Thanks so much for sharing!
Stewart this is the best cover of JT l have heard you do ! I have loved JT since I was 13 yrs old and i am almost 62 . You are so good. A lot of respect from Tennessee.
I am 60. When I was around 12 my older brother's friend came by with a few albums for them to listen to. When he left he forgot that Aqualung was still on the record player. I played that record over and over for the next three weeks until he returned to retrieve it. It had a big influence on my taste in music and my taking up the guitar, which I still pay regularly to this day. Thank you for playing this all time classic Tull gem! Excellent job on improvising the flute parts. Another song done very very well!
Excellent work mate!! That is not an easy song to play. One of my favs.
Great job - singing and guitar work. Thoroughly enjoyed it 👍🏻😎😎
I also sighed with relief for you after a flawless rendition of one of Tull's finest. If you did nothing but introduce....yet, you slayed! BRAVO, Stewart!
I'm back! :D After learning bits from 4 or 5 songs, I've settled on My God. Transcribing it to Tabs now. Fun song, takes me back to catechism - as does Wind Up.
I was half expecting you to stand up and kick your chair away halfway through that! 👍👍👍
Stewart, I can't begin to tell you how many times you make my day. Thank you.
Stewart.. Thank you for this ! I am viewing this on my way back home to Reno from Bangkok Airport, Heneda Tokyo.. Dallas then connecting to Nevada. As a 14 year old in Las Vegas ( when it was a smaller town ) 1971-72.. I would listen to this record side to side before bed , and school the next morning, usually. A personal " religious" experience, introspective, for sure ! " My God" had such an impact on me..and " Wind Up". Thank you again for your faithfull version ! Regards. JT
dude......it was the BEST cover of this music I already found on UA-cam!
👏👏👏
You make it look so EASY!! A great rendition of this song. Can't wait to hear anything else by Tull. My favorite band (beside the Beatles).
Thank you. Hope you enjoy some of my other Tull covers on this channel
Incredible. The reverence you deservedly give the song, not just in the introduction but especially in how you played it, is spot on. My personal favorite of your collection so far - but I have over 100 to go, and looking forward to being wowed some more.
PS- Best-ever flute solo performed on guitar 😜
Huge performance. A tour de force !
Thank you for warming my soul on this icy afternoon!
Great job, you inspired me to learn it
Bravo......surprised me with how well it turned out. I've been trying for years to play that whole song,,,,can't get past the verses,,,LOL!! You Sir, deserve a standing ovation! Well done.
Stewart, this was beautiful! The mixing of Ian's acoustic, Martin's electric and the flute into one guitar is simply genius. Your playing was both intricate and subtle, your singing was neither too loud or too soft, but with enough angst to capture the original message of this song. From the earlier versions in 1969, the lyrics changed making it center on CoE and not catholic as intended.
Keep up the good work and keep playing. I'll keep in touch with you. Thanks again Stewart, just brilliant.
True that, Randy.
Kudos ! -- you do a fine ' softer' version of this song --- but lack the ' bite' and sarcasm of ian Anderson's original . ( no small feat ! ) , have always been amazed at Ian's acoustic work , he rarely speaks about it . But I'm in awe of his guitar playing style !
WOW
I really appreciate all the Jethro Tull covers. Some are actually better than originals. I’ve been listening to them in isolation and its awesome. Thank you!!
Thanks so much for your kind words Warren.
Beautifully done my good brother!!! Acoustic master you are🤘
Just crazy great. The solo is genius ! Keep it coming. A fan since ‘69. Chicago Chris
Wow...just wow! Love it. Your comments about Tull and Ian's flute on this album, and this song were spot on. Great observations.
Just a superb rendition. Wonderful, wonderful work. Thanks for all you do - so refreshing in these hideous times. Bravo!
Wonderful. Simply wonderful! Thank you so much.
Absolutely love the context and your delivery is spot on…TY
Fantastic 👍👌
So freaking amazing. I’m still working my way through your videos. And just shared your channel w a good friend. We saw Tull in 1995 at the beacon theater in nyc. My first real concert.
oh My God brilliant
Great Job, You were doing the acoustic guitar, lead, and flute passages. You are a great Jethro Tull Guitar player. I remember trying to learn this song on my acoustic guitar when the album came out. I got most of it. But you have it.
I've got blisters on my fingers.
That was really good Stewart even taught me some new stuff to incorporate in the way I play it.
Outstanding performance.
Amazing. Beautiful. Congratulations. 🇧🇷
Well done my friend
Absolutely fantastic!!
Beautiful!
Great flute ( guitar) solo. Again you master another great Tull song. Bravo 👏👏👏
That was remarkable, a fantastic cover of one of my all time favorite song!!
Fantastic.
This is a pretty terrific adaptation. Really well done. 👏
This song was the first Tull song I ever heard. I was 15, it was 1973, I was looking through a bunch of albums and a friend put headphones on me from behind with 'My God' just starting to play. I've been hooked since - favorite band
Excellent❤️❤️❤️
Wonderful playing, Stewart! It's as if Ian and Martin Barre playing acoustic together! Amazing.
That's so kind. Thank you
Was surprised to see Stewart appear on the Blair and Brown documentary...quite a cool politician obviously!
Such an epic song, great job .this song is still so relevant especially in today's current situation...
Outstanding! I’m not sure how many people appreciate how difficult it is to sing while playing the primary riff of that song because the timings of the two things oppose each other. The complex of guitar substitutions of the flute solos was ingenious. That final gush of air you released; that piece has to be exhausting to play. It’s no wonder that you fumbled your farewell. Flawless and you made it look so easy.
Thank you very much.
Excellent.
Wonderfully done once again Stewart. I always wanted to see how this was played up close but I've never been in the front row of a Tull concert. Sure sounded like the flute to me and luck is something that you don't need!
Hi Stewart, I'm glad I came across your site so I can learn from you. When I was around 14 I heard Aqualung on 92 KSJO and bought the album. A band of Medieval musicians / actors playing Rock 'n Roll was a great twist on the rock I was accustomed too. So after all these years of not listening to them, now I get to listen and play this time, far out, lol, thanks.
Wish I could play like that!
I surely didn't expect that, just wao on your adaptation
WOW!!!!!!!
"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, let nothing you dismay..."
That's..pretty awesome, saw them Aug 1970 nyc, the Flute parts..bravo..Clap clap
Amazing!
Very nice 👍🏽
Great, Stewart. You made it absolutely admirable. Thanks so much. Looking forward to listening to you again with another pearl.
Hey Stewart. Just seen this. I’m only 2 years behind! Absolutely wonderful. Thank you. ✌🏼
Thank you very much
Top drawer all the feelings and emotions are there, well done ❤️ it
Brilliant!
You nailed it.
👏👏👏👏
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇧🇷
Fantastic. One of my faves.
Another great one Stewart - inspired me to try this one myself...
Simply marvelous, fully capturing the atmosphere of this song.
"Awesome just Awesome " Excellent rendition of a great song
The kids today wouldn't understand................................ Thank you
this is just amazing man!
Wow! This song has a terrific flute solo! I heard the ealy version as well (it is on the '50th Anniversary Enhanced Edition' repackage of 'Benefit' (CD 1)). The early version is really close to the original, anyways. 'My God'? One of the strongest Tull songs ever 🥰
Perfect 👍
This is awesome man! I thought it was just gonna be a guitar cover then you started singing!! Great job!
Hey thanks Adrian.
Dont know if anyones ever told you - your voice sounds quite like brian molko. Beautiful and unique
Epic cover btw i strive for such greatness
stunning guitar playing
Wunderbar👍👍
I'm working on this myself at the moment after watching another UA-cam Tull enthusiast, snoozedoctor, but all those non-acoustic intricacies may take some time! I was just going to skip them 😅 brilliant stuff.
Meeting someone who loves and loves Ian Anderson and JT
Amazing.
Buenisimo, saludos desde Chile
Fantastic👏👏👏
Really enjoyed this. Managing to pull together the flute aspects and the Barre sections all on an acoustic! Well done
great guitar cover, but I must say your voice really brings it and makes it your own. Well done!!
Excellent!
What you have done!
Hitting "Like" first of all, then watching.. ;-)
Ten minutes later: Wow! That was one of the most challenging takes, I suppose, and you came up with a hypnotising rendition again. Kudos for that as well as for another great introduction in the beginning.
P. S. We always wish you luck :-)
Stewart! Good to see you brother! Another fantastic cover my man. I loved the stripped down acoustic performance you bring to us. Keep them coming!
So lean upon Him gently
And don't call on Him to save...
Thank you! I enjoyed this immensely! Magnificent cover of one of my all time favorites! Bravo! Looking forward to listening to more of your work!
Outstanding
Fantastic! Thanks.
Great interpretation of the flute! So creative, Stewart, great playing!
Brilliant! I play the flute solo from time to time. Not easy. You’re rendition is terrific. Well done.
