Danko seemed like a kind soul. Wish he'd have tamed his demons and taken better care of himself. Gone way too soon.

I am a musician and know a lot of musicians. I have met some well known musicians. Most musicians are odd or full of themselves. I got to know Rick for a short time and for that I consider myself very lucky. Is or was there ever a nicer guy than Rick? I don't think so.
Danielle has enough stuff to keep him alive for a long time...

You could see it in the non-verbals on stage as well. Take the solos from other performers for instance. He'd acknowledge them more than most musicians would whenever he was in an ensemble like the Band. If it was his own billing, he'd walk over to them and offer them the spotlight they might not have otherwise received in that moment.

He had a wonderful singular voice and was a rock solid bassist. If you see the film "Festival Express" you get an insight into what a fun guy he was to hang out and play music with. I was lucky enough to see the legendary Rock of Ages concert. The Band in their prime were as great as anybody that's ever done it.

Thank you for sharing this. I've really become obsessed (musically that is) with Rick's music. Getting to know the man himself isn't easy due to the lack of interviews available. The music on Elizabeth's tape sounded awesome. I hope this music becomes available sometime. As it is, iTunes does have a decent amount of Danko live albums available, but not his wonderful 1977 solo lp. Long live Rick and Elizabeth.

Hey Danielle, I was Rick and Elizabeth's housekeeper/nanny for 5 years in Malibu, in the mid 70's. I don't often post stuff on public media about it, and nothing personal about Rick or Elizabeth, ever, but I would be interested in sharing some memories if anyone was ever to write a book. Part of my heart died twice ... once with Eli and once with Rick. Tonight when I found this video it rekindled the love that will live there with them forever, along with my love for Elizabeth, Justin and Lisa. Yes there are so many fond memories.
I must admit I was late to hear of Elizabeth's passing. She and I shared many hours together and yes, we got into some mischief together. I treasure the memories of the kids when they were young and I will always cherish the times we shared. Some flood back as if it were yesterday.
It would be great fun to talk with you sometime. I'm glad to see you are keeping their spirits alive.

I saw Rick and The Band in Chicago in April 96. Awesome show. Rick accidentally turned a 4/4 into a 5/4 during one line of Makes No Difference (Jimmy and Rick Bell exchanged brief smiles while adjusting), but he was DANKO...that whirling dervish of a Stage Presence. I miss him. I almost went to see him in Ann Arbor for that last gig, and I’m kicking myself still.

Rick & Szredney V !! Harpist & backing vocalist. I taped Rick & Szredney from the SDBRD at The Birchmere mid-'80s & I was the only one that was in the board. A beautiful version of a Lionel Richie tune 'My Love' or 'Everytime'- & w/Szredney V- excellent Harp+background vocals to get that 'High, Lonesome sound'. A decade later-Stephen Talkhouse Miami about '93(±) after a brush w/the Japanese court... We hung out for about 3 hours before that show & an hour or so after that one. As before in Alexandria, VA at The Birchmere '80s one he was just the sweetest, hospitable Gent."Ah, you're still here, eh?" was how he'd opened the 2nd set I taped from that SDBRD & it ended w/a 'chorus line'-type of strolling off the stage as they sang out 'Blaze Of Glo-ry'(Let's go out)'🎼 Such a great Gent. RIP. Be in touch? (Long Black Veil, btw)

Paul came up with the Anthology set of the Beatles. Later, Yoko Ono did not know what to do with John Lennon’s home recording demos. She wisely, turned them over to Paul, who came up with the Home Recordings cd’s. Contact Paul, he might be able to help you.

Thomas Pick I’m not certain what the wedding ring and the swearing have to do with anything. Funny, since you bring up Lennon...who made the swearing on this video look like a Sunday School lesson in comparison.
All that I know of Danielle is that she’s incredibly generous for allowing access to what had been Rick and Elizabeth’s private collection. Oh, and she runs a top notch Facebook page for Danko fans as well.

Thomas Pick As for the “giving it to McCartney” idea...
I love both The Beatles and The Band. However, while Free As A Bird was decent, Real Love was a bit of a stretch sound-wise. I remember a Time magazine cartoon that showed Paul, George, and Ringo playing alongside John’s telephone answering machine while the greeting message played. It was the perfect comment on the sound quality of Real Love (and, btw, I love the song).
Some things should be left alone. Real Love was one.
