  • Exploring Lerderderg State Forest and tackling the infamous Diggers Track. This one has a bit of everything. Starts off as a casual 2WD explore on the main access roads and the second half of the video is tackling the infamous Diggers Track, everything from huge rock steps, to bog holes, ruts and possibly the hardest test yet for my winch!

    Drove out today from Melbourne to take the dog for an adventure walk. After walking from the campground past the rock step (rock packing under Max tracks) decided the trusty old Outback would make it. Chicken tracks all the way but we made it. So good!

      Nice work, prior planning will get an AWD vehicle a lot of places. Well done!

    Paj looking sharp in this one👍Great story, loved the alternate angle from Matt. Top job Matt - and love the safety thongs! Favourite part was talking through the A,B,C,D Lines. I'll leave the A,B,C to someone else too.

      Thx Dan, was a fun trip and Matt did a top job... Might try the B line in the 76, depending what it's like when we get back there :-) Also probably depending how much winching we've already had to do!

    Did this track a few weeks ago on my motorbike, needless to say I was avoiding all the bog holes like the plague! The mini gunshot feature was full of water... yikes.

      Yeah when there's been some rain it's pretty crazy. Would be fun on a bike though!

    The left side of O'Briens rd is Lerderderg NP and all the right side is Wombat state forest

    Yes, there are seasonal closures in Lerderberg. Most of the fun and popular ones are closed each year....but not the main 2wd track/road (blue gum/O'Briens) which remains open..

      Thx mate, suspected that'd be the case from the size of the ruts and bog holes.... Is it June - October like the high country?

      Thanks for sharing.
      That’s my part of the world and there some serious bog holes there.
      I do a lot solo 4WDing there and l’m big fan of the “Chicken” tracks and minimum vehicle damage.
      Keep up the good work.
      Oh and yes there are seasonal closures.

      @@OffTheBeatenPathAus I really like Radcliffe Track off Carrolls Lane/Firth Road. A steep track in parts with a small river crossing.
      XL Track off O’Briens Road is worth a look too.
      Hope that helps.

    Looks like a fun area to explore mate with a little more technical driving. We all get stuck from time to time, at least you had the winch to get you out.

    Watching all of the wheel spin occurring, as the traction control makes up its mind to do something, I wonder the difference in tyre life compared to non-traction control. Certainly is a lot of wheel spin induced as compared to using a different line with more tyre plant and not spinning wheels, which, after all is the name of the game.

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  9 місяців тому +1

      Traction control has its pluses and minuses. Possibly there was an easier line bit wanted to drive the rock step so did.

      Just today returned from Lerderderg State Park, drove all of the same tracks that you did, including the rocky climb up Billet track and did not slip at wheel. Not once. No traction control, just good old Nissan LSD. So, what are the pluses of traction control as opposed to correct line? The minuses would be unnecessary wheel spin?@@OffTheBeatenPathAus

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  9 місяців тому

      @@trickster8635I've heard the Nissan LSD's are pretty good, almost like having a locker or good traction control.
      Glad you checked out Lederderg it's a great spot I think.

      TC doesn't make up for not taking the correct line. you still need to drive it properly

    oh nice, When are you going to Lerderderg again, im like 45mins away form there lol?
    Yer some of the tracks can get real sloppy in winter and worth having a few mates with you in there 4bys.
    But the area is pretty big and not many think of that and some tracks can take a few hours to do tho.
