I'm old school and was taught to repair heavy earthmoving plant exactly as these guys are doing....sadly these days all they would do is pull the transmission or engine ect and fit a new/ refurbished unit.....they don't have the luxury either with the funds or availability of replacement units to do that...but they have the skilled to diagnose the fault strip and repair the affected unit at a fraction of the cost of a new unit..you can't beat old school..sadly today's mechanics have a list of certificates but end up as swap jockeys and never fully understanding of how it precisely works...just my 2p worth..

I recon that in the time these guys took to identify, solve and fix the problem the guy in a western parts shop would still be wondering which part to order (and when it came it woukd probably be the wrong part).
You guys have my greatest respect for what you do with limited facilities. I think all western apprentice engineers should spend 6 months with you to learn how the 'professionals' do it !

This is a video on how not to do it... The fact they compare bolts tell me they don't exactly know which goes where. Put the wrong bolt in the wrong place you will have problems. Don't even get me started on the torque specs that are not followed. Over torquing or under torquing will be problematic. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

job well done. No power washer. No air wrenches. No chain hoists. No work benches. Squatting or kneeling most of the time Clean parts in spite of working on ground. Great job.

Not experts. Guys with poor tools and facilities doing a n makeshift job. It won't last long but it will get the nachibs working. That does not make a expert

He showed a cut teflon piston ring about half way through. But this looks like a normal rebuild in a third world country to me. Nothing strange.

Good skills. Next time tell the guy to quit hitting the steel drum and making noises. Bang bang bang....gave me a headache.
