    After you laid the stencil for the "D" but before you used the ink colored paint, what did you do? I could tell by the coloring of the stencil that you may have maybe stained or sealed the "D" before painting? Just curious if what ever you did helped prevent the "D" from bleeding?

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  3 роки тому +1

      Hi yes you can place your stencil and rub some stain around the letters to kind of seal them .. it really does help. This works with paint too.

    Hi I love your videos. I tried this method and when I applied my vinyl over the painted letter it would not lay flat. You could see the vinyl raised over the painted letter. Is that how it is supposed to be?

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  2 роки тому

      Hi! It would depend on how thick your paint is...I use chalk paint a lot and it is less noticeable. But with heavier paints you might notice a ridge. If you don't like the ridge I would use a lighter paint, like chalk ones.

    Do you have to seal the stain before you paint over it or apply vinyl over it

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  2 роки тому

      Hi! You can apply polycrylic and let it dry completely before painting. The decals do go on easier this way. I don't always do that tho so it is definitely not a have to.

    Hi, I’ve been trying to stencil both, the letter and the name on top but my vinyl pulls up the paint of the first stencil when i remove it. Any tips? Tried sealing it between stencils but i have the same problem.

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  2 роки тому

      Hi! Try using a matte or chalk paint on the large letter...it won stick as bad. You could try polycrylic between stencils as well.

  • @MariaSanchez-fw5gm

    Great work, love it! Im just wondering why you painted stencil instead of just using vinyl, is there a reason behind that or is it just preference? And how do you print larger than the default on Cricut? What font did you use for stencil?

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  4 роки тому +2

      Hey thank you so much! Yes it is preference and and according to the looks you want to achieve. I didn’t want to layer vinyl on vinyl on this project so I just painted the initial. I use splice feature in design space to cut out large objects and piece them back together. I will have to check on the font I think it is Times New Roman?? I’ll double check on that!

    I can't seem to find "natural chestnut" in the Minwax wiping stain. Their website doesn't show it as an offered color. Would regular "chestnut" be close enough to the shade in your video? I really like it!

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! I don't think they make the natural chestnut wiping stain anymore ... you could try the regular stain in chestnut in 2 or three layers, it doesn't come out the exact match to it in one coat ... I think because the wiping stain is so thick. I loved this color stain tho I was so disappointed when they stopped making it!

    Did you make the video yet of how to make the dots for around the edge with the cricut? I have a 15in clock and I want to add that but cricut will only allow me to cut up to 11.5 in circle. Can you help with that?

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  4 роки тому

      Hi yes I think that footage is in the curved text video How to Curve Text / Cricut Design Space Tutorial. After creating the dots you will need to split the image and cut it separately for larger than 11.5”. That is in the video also! Hope that helps!

    Did you seal the painted letter before you put the vinyl lettering over it? I am worried that the paint will come up with the transfer paper.

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  3 роки тому

      Hi. On this project I did not seal before placing the vinyl and didn’t have problems, but that is a valid point. I have sealed paint tho before and placed the vinyl after, and the transfer did pull up some areas of the sealant making a splotchy looking area on the paint so I would definitely test the paint, vinyl, and sealed before doing the actual sign.👍🏻

    Your letters come easily up from the contact paper. Mine seem to stick on the paper, instead of the board. 😔 Any tips?

    • @AppalachianHomeCo
      @AppalachianHomeCo  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! It does depend on how long you let your paint or stain dry. If using oil base stain it takes longer to dry. If you place vinyl on stain that is only a couple hrs old it will not stick well sometimes, depending on the stain and environment it dries in. I would wait 24 hrs and then another 24 hrs to test your vinyl on the stain. I have best results after 48 hrs. Hope that helps!
