Who ARE these people? They don't even rate a Wikipedia mention but have posted directly to UA-cam the greatest version of the Brandenburgs of all time.
They are all luminaries of the San Francisco early music community. Carla Moore is co-concertmaster of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. She is a world-class talent. Hi Carla!
The first time I've heard a Brandenburg Concerto, 'toned down'. I grew up listening to the big orchestras like Berlin Philharmonic with Karajan, or Neville Mariner and Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and these styles of sound lent a grandiose, dare I say bombastic, quality to Bach's music that probably originated from a devotion of great veneration. Yet, listening to your slimmed down chamber orchestra, in a church like setting with its acoustics that probably would have been the type of setting where Bach would first have performed this piece, allows the concerto to be heard clearly and distinctly by the listener. Every instrument stands out on its own, thereby allowing the whole of the concerto to be fully appreciated by the listener. The humility of the sound of the recorders renders to me the atmosphere of worship that I believe Bach had for God, which seems a concurrent theme throughout his music. Your performance allowed me to focus on every individual instrument in turn, as well as on the various groupings of harpsichord, light strings, even the viola, the recorders, and the heavy strings of cello and double bass. Your performance was an emotional eye opener to me of what I personally feel and have interpreted into Bach's music throughout my life, and you have allowed me to augment my understanding and appreciation of his music, immeasurably. I applaud Voices of Music and what I imagine they may be doing to enhance the listener's appreciation of early classical/baroque music. Thank you so very much for hard work!
First time I heard this concerto was in college. I missed a whole day of classes, stayed in my dorm room and listened to it all day. I came out for dinner though! I really like this ensemble. No ego, just musicality. I couldn't take my eyes off the female recorder player. She plays so effortlessly! I believe she was playing the harpsichord in #3.
Such an amazing ensemble. They're just oozing with talent and passion. Whoever said Baroque music is unexciting couldn't have experienced it the way Voices of Music does. Definitely donating to this talented group of artists.
This work brings back so many memories..I used to live in Okinawa, Japan and performed this with my dear colleagues there. It was a hard time in my life, and the music was what kept my mind clear. Wonderful performance! Thank you.
@@kingseth2628 I had forgotten that I had made a comment on this video. :-) Either way, I've been listening to Freiburger now and absolutely, a very good orchestra. But Voices of Music's interpretations of Bach touch me more deeply. Then I prefer the orchestra to be a little smaller as well.
@@haydnenthusiast Absolutely, a very competent orchestra, but I have a bit of a hard time with the solo violinist. A certain tendency to overplay, in my opinion. So I prefer Voices of Music's interpretations of Bach. But as always with music, we think differently and that's fine! :-)
Love how Bach gives the spotlight to the concertino violin with rapid passages while actually shifts the "melodies" to the recorders and the ripieno and then to the continuo at the time 👏👏
Some of the most vibrant music ever written. The music blazes forth as if it had a life of its own. Perhaps a performance like this proves that it does.
The level of quality is simply unmatched by any website or video on the internet other than this UA-cam channel. Its also a decade old?! Genuinely astounding. The fact that these recordings are also FREE, wow. I was glad to see that your latest upload displayed a tally of over 100,000 USD, as every penny is well deserved! Definitely earned a new subscriber. :-)
Why does UA-cam (in the UK) keep directing me to these amazing performances - several hours after I should be asleep in bed! (?) VoM are a truly amazing ensemble - comprised of very talented soloists - and led by the brilliant Hanneke van Proosdij! Best wishes - stay safe! 🇺🇦
I've been listening to this song for months now and I didn't know the name and recently I decided to ask my guides and they showed it to me. I'm so grateful to have found your channel😅. It brings so much happiness and joy to my life especially during this pandemic. Thank you so much. I love your music 🎶🎶
Simultaneously subtle and forceful - playful, gracious and majestic. Echo flutes supremely in balance with the ensemble. Alternately quick and lively and languid and sonorous- a most convincing interpretation - historically accurate and equally contemporary in feel. Congratulations on this superb performance- a benchmark to live up to!
I'm listening to this piece for the first time (so far as I know) after finishing Aldous Huxley's novel Island. He used it in the final chapter for quite a commentary on the extremes of human absolution. Naturally, I trusted only Voices of Music to introduce me.
Andrew Walls, Musician I realize it’s now a year after your listen to Brandenburg 4 but hopefully you’re still up for *another* phenomenal take on this performance. Voices of Music is my go-to for many Baroque pieces and I owe it to them for introducing me to a wider world of it... but when it comes to Brandy #4 this, by Akademie of Ancient Music Berlin, is my favorite rendition: I hope u enjoy this magnificent Bach piece as much now, one year later. :) ua-cam.com/video/fNYb4pMeVVk/v-deo.html
Hunted me my entire life. thank you for letting me see it.❤i trasposed it to guitar tableture and a few years later i ❤picked up the pages and they fell apart from moisture, i had them on a shelf.❤i gave up, God didnt want me to play.❤i always felt it was one bird singing and another answering, in the moonlight, on tree tops❤
Bach was a genius. And these folks, Voices of Music, are geniuses for their research and performance of this glorious music as it was meant to be heard! One of their geniuses is the clarity of the performance.
Bravo, Bravo, Bravo! A magnificent and world class performance on every level. Elegant, virtuoso, expressive and also technically perfect. Thank you so much!
I love this video recording in particular because at 0:45, you can clearly see the first recorder bringing up her knee in preparation for the high f# note, which lasts only like a few milliseconds, but which needs to be played with the bell closed.
What this does to a hurting soul is indescribable. Your performance is amazing, of course - but the music itself -- WTF was Bach playing with? You know that place where one feels pain and pleasure? It's being passed around between the flutes and the violins... and it feels *wonderful*.

This music by this orchestra ought to be played outside the medium of earth, to the other planets songs of ionic radiation, to join the harmony of the solar system. A present and a rejoicing of life.

Try their Corelli
It's about time Wikipedia got up to speed....... This is the best recording I have heard in years! Am listening to it for the 3rd day in a row.....
@@sandrahatherley2184 Thank you for suggesting that piece! Loved it also! Thank you again!

The base is very clear and you can actually hear the harpsicord. A wonderful performance all the parts come through clearly and are so well balanced.

Imagine composing this with a quill and candle light. The capacity of Bach's brain was astounding,.

One of the most beautiful works of baroque music.

Mats Hedlund -- The sound is excellent!

You should hear the Netherlands Bach Society. All of their Bach interpretations, in fact. They master it to a level of perfection.

I like the way the recorder players swap over to the spare one every so often to keep them both warmed up.
Love those echo flutes, especially in the Presto. Thank you for this wonderful music
Our pleasure!
Great tone and blend between recorders. Great balance between recorders and strings. All that we've come to expect from Voices ensemble.
