If I need to pick a video of a piece to share witrh colleagues or students, but don't have time to preview it myself, Voices of Music always has me covered. I can ALWAYS trust that their version will be played flawlessly, beautifully, and with historical authenticity. I really do love you people. Your passion, and dedication to the music is second to none. That combined with highly skilled and talented musicians keeps me coming back again, and again, and again. Oh, and did I mention that your individual personalities shine through in some moments in a very endearing way?
@@VoicesofMusic The usual instrumentation is: two viole da braccio, two viole da gamba, cello, violone, and harpsichord. Why did you delete the harpsichord?
For Twoset fans, this is what an ensemble can achieve with violas and without violins. 😂 Well I have to admit that the composer was a demigod though. 😍
Me, too, on both counts. I live in the North Bay, but without a vehicle, I can't make it into the city. Bummer! I've lived here for 10 years, known about VoM for at least 7, and have yet to see them live, there is nothing like live performance.
Oh brilliant! This is the work that turned me into a baroque fanatic 5 decades ago. (I learned the gamba and eventually played in this work.) Love the liveliness and togetherness you seem to have. Please tell the cellist that I think I am in love (even though I'm a gamba player). What a treasure she is. Drives that music along beautifully. I wish I could contribute but apparently I can't from where I am. All the best!
Thanks so much, we will pass the message along. You can donate from virtually anywhere, if you are so inclined, but it's totally fine just to listen voicesofmusic.org/donate.html
Among the six Brandeburg concerti this one's my favorite. Surprisingly the tempi chosen fits my heatbeat and make me feel comfortable listening to, unlike with other versions. Thank you
So far I have only been able to enjoy your performances through your UA-cam offerings though I live just 35 miles away. VoM is such a treat! We simply can't have you wither away due to this health crisis. I'm glad to have been able to make a small donation. If I could only win the lottery! Brandenburg № 6 is one of my favorites. All of them are great, but ... I don't know, there us something extra about № 6 for me. Perhaps it's the lack of the violins. I don't know. It's just wonderful so I'm really looking forward to this tonight. In a word, YIPPEE!
It was rumoured the violinists fell ill on the day of performance and Bach gave their parts to viola players and the original viola parts were given to de gambas. LOL 🤣
Well the rumours are false, the composer’s manuscript said “Concerto 6 for two violas (of the arms), two violas (of the legs), a cello, violone, and harpsichord.”
I have never seen this "viola da gamba" before (I have zero knowledge of musical instruments, I just enjoy the music and the performance)... it's curious to me that one is a seven-strings version and the other one, just six.
This is a fantastic performance! Can anything be done about the clicking at the beginning of the recording, and again at 0'43" and 1'10" ? Sort of sounds like the harpsichord when it's playing eighth notes, but it's not consistent throughout. Not a huge deal but it was a little distracting. Bravo to all though!
J.S.Bach overtreft hier zichzelf nmm , heftig boeiend stuk ! en ik heb ook wat vragen over de viola da braccio maar ga daar eerst zelf voor aan het werk.
I realise that I'm well over four years late to this performance - but these wonderfully skilled and dedicated musicians never cease to amaze and uplift my spirit! Thank you all, so much. 🇺🇦
What i like most about these performers is how earnest they appear in their performance. It's not arrogant and overdone. The movement seems to augment the music. Well done.
What a moving rendition of Bach's emotion. The second movement, Adagio(?), was particularly striking, and brought a tear to my eye when the viola on the left gently chimed in to her viola colleague to her left, and and to the cello, with such a delicate touch of Wehmut (melancholy) that a German soul cannot refrain from being touched by the Master's eloquence of depth of feeling that make him the composer that all subsequent successors looked to for inspiration. Thank you for a performance that touches the heart.
Lovely, lovely, lovely! Vigorous, beautifully balanced, perfect transitions--thoroughly satisfying. What a robust sound from "second" violist Blumenstock. Everyone having so much fun!
i played 2nd viol on this in a performance with the mclean symphony --- 2 violas 1 cello 2 viola da gamba and a string bass i think we did okay but not like this i recall being scared to death bach is wonderful

I assume the Twoset don't have the listening experience to appreciate this kind of performance anyway!
As a violist, I feel blessed with your interpretation. Bravo 👏
Same here. You put my playing to shame.
I'm still not used to see a lot viola da gambas in an orchestra. But this is really beautiful and majestic
Such beautiful orchestration. It's always refreshing to watch these.

It a compression artifact from YT that amplifies the quill sound of the harpsichord (B Flat)...

One of Bach's most spiritual compositions!
Bach should have made the 3rd movement (allegro) the 1st movement. It is a more interesting conversation between the players
