Great job on the repairs. Very remarkable job making a new tote and knob, they look really fantastic. Looks like a great plane for someone. I especially liked the new spring for the flip lock.

I guess this plane will continue its life as a showpiece rather than a working plane. You haven't flattened the sole. You haven't sharpened the iron, and you haven't flattened the chip breaker edge. I'm not even going to mention that you haven't adjusted the frog relative to the mouth of the sole. Otherwise, you did get rid of the rust. Helll of a work!!!

Very nice work. I recommend that you pull the frog back out and remove the paint from the surface that contacts the blade. This will make it easier and smoother to adjust the blade and prevent sticking.

Thank you for the video - very joyful to watch and well done. However just to add a quick unsolicited advice here *) - do not use olive oil as it never polymerises and it will provide zero protection from water even if you soak the whole block in olive oil. Do not use straight linseed oil "as is". Use boiled linseed oil (nothing to do with "boiling" btw). Do not use wax - wax is one of the worst finishes for wood - it doesn't protect the wood at all. I would have used boiled linseed oil, shellac, danish oil, rubio monocoat or Tru-Oil (finish used for gun stocks).

100% thumbs down. Worst hack job I have seen so far. Disassembled in the wrong order.
Used the wrong tools when removing stuck screws.
Used a flat jawed tool to remove a fragile brass ROUND object with a thin rim THEN tried to BEAT it into shape with a blasted hammer!
Had the so called "restorer" bothered to use the correct tool to remove the brass object all that would have been needed was restoring the knurling, which they never bothered to do.
Used the wrong screwdrivers to reassemble.
Additionally, if you look at the final assembly you can see the brass adjustment knob installed is butchered.
Final nail in the coffin. That hand plane was NOT painted! It was originally japanned!!!!
Additional suspicious items: That plane iron and the chip breaker were badly corroded. The plane iron in the final picture showed very little in the way of a badly corroded piece of tool steel that had been "restored".
Person has no business touching old tools that need restoration.
I would not let this individual restore a dime store hammer.
