Hello my dear friends.
I am happy to present you a new story. Our guest in this story is Mr. Stanley.
Stanley 9-1/2 Block (1872 - 1981). We can call him antique or old or vintage. Anyway...
I really love this block plane and decided to give my best effort.
In this type of work, I keep functionality above aesthetics.
Especially some parts of hand planes should never be thinned.
The thickness of the blade, the geometry of the blade and the throat are very important. I always prefer to sharpen the blade without using any jigs and I always make it razor sharp :)
A little part of the adjustable throat was missing when I got it but It doesn't matter, it can be adjusted manually.
Let's leave aside the technical points of the restoration. I always decide on the aesthetic approach completely on the way. I am ready to listen to all your thoughts and approaches.
I also have a surprise for you. We worked with a very well known craftsman on this story. I won't write his name, surprise, but many of you have already guessed :) @meinemechaniker
As you know I am a woodworker too and tool maker and also restorator. Deeply in love with fine woodworking. This work was a pleasure for me and wanted to share with you. As a full-time craftsman , I told you the story the way I lived it. So this is not just a restoration video, few days of a craftsman.
I hope you like our story.
Don't forget to like and subscribe if you like it. i would be glad.
I greet you all sincerely.

hi mate, you did a great job. It's impossible not to be amazed. I am proud to take part in this project. It's a pleasure working with you. 🥃🥃
@@meinemechaniker Gentleman, pleasure working with you. You did a gorgeous job as always. Thank you for being guest in Mr.Stanley's story. Stay safe and see you soon. I'm looking forward to your new project. Cheers ! 🥃
You always do a beautiful job. It is like watching a movie. The missing part seems to be quite common. It’s missing on quite a few block planes. I am going to try a make one. I will let you know how it turns out. My husband and I are wood workers too. I am getting him slowly used to restoration of tools too. Good luck with the channel. We have been telling folks to watch. And thank you for writing the items you use on channel.
@@teresaschroepfer3695 Thank you Teresa, such a beautiful comment. I'm so glad you like my mini movies. I am sure you and your husband are very good at woodworking. Good luck to you and stay safe. see you in next story 🌟🗜️⚒️🌿
Hi friend, it was excellent. Hug from Brazil.
Watching you write a letter at the beginning of the video takes me back 70 years. A pen with a nib like that and an ink well is how i learned to write in elementary school. Thanks for reminding me.
Ted thank you very much dear friend, I'm glad to hear this
My father was a tinsmith-machinist, he made stainless steel furniture for hospitals, worked as well in metals, wood, sculpture, and I spent my childhood watching him work. During these moments, he was calm, meticulous and respectful of the material. I find these qualities in you and it is very soothing, without forgetting all those pleasant little noises
Lucie thank you very much, great to hear these and see you here 🌟 Respect to your father ⚒️⚙️

Gunny thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed the time you had with my work. Welcome ✌🏻 Great to see you here ⚒️⚙️🐾
I had just finished watching Mein Mechaniker restore the ox tongue iron yesterday, the project finishes with him ironing . To see your parts being thrown in his general direction today, and caught while he was using the iron yesterday, blew my mind.
Dale thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed. Nice to see you ✌🏻⚙️⚒️🌟

Thank you for your video production and work.
Like your concept, your premises and values.
You’re just the man to use real nickel plating and Japanning as well….looking forward to that.
My dear friend... just as your letter starts. I think Mr. Stanley had a hard life and I am glad to see you are taking good care of him now. I had no idea there were so many parts in a block! Great story (and music! I remember that radio show) (and time piece) :)
Thank you for sharing this story with me/us.
And I recognize the man with his new sandblaster!
Cheers in a good whiskey

Dear Gentleman... thank you very much. I'm so glad you had good time with Mr.Stanley's story. thank you very much John. ı'm so glad you like 🗜️⚒️🌟
Another excellent restoration. I doubt that original makers ever saw their tools look as magnificent. I absolutely love these small Stanley planes. I have one that was my grandfathers and it is still the best plane of many that I own.
Fred thank you very much for this beautiful comment. Nice to see you here 🗜️⚒️🌟🐾
I like shiny little things and your wonderful sense of humor. As usual, your work is outstanding.
Annette thank you very much. Great to hear from you 🌟⚒️⚙️🍀
I've only recently found your stories and I must confess that I enjoy them very much. I am in the process of restoring 2 USA made Stanley Block planes of this same design. I also do my best to keep my restorations true to the original tool so that it can be used with the same joy intended when it was first put to work by a craftsman. Thank you for sharing your stories with us.
thank you very much my dear friend. I'm sure you will make a great job 👌🏻⚙️⚒️
Beautifully restored! My old dad had a Stanley plane in the 50’s slightly different in style. Older or newer I am not sure. He would spend endless hours in his garage making things and I would often just watch. Lovely memories and a beautiful plane.
Lovely memories 👌🏻 happy new year dear friend
Outstanding !

I'll be damned...
Fantastic job!
thank you very much my dear friend
Beautiful! Idyllic ! 🇨🇦
Thank you very much Brian ✌🏻🌟⚒️⚙️🇨🇦
What can I say am I impressed of course beyond belief your skill and patience are fantastic, but, now what. Will you use it? will anybody use it if you gave it to me would I use it certainly not. It's so good it should be simply looked at. Nobody at Stanley tools ever envisaged that plane looking like that. You have taken a good tool and pushed it into the realms of mythical. I would be proud to put that on my sideboard and appreciate it. I would also hanker after taking it to my shed and planing a piece of pallet wood but I wouldn't dare. Well done mate
Ernest thank you very much, such a beautiful comment 🌟 I am very happy to receive such good feedback. I have many hand tools, I am a collector in this regard. Therefore, I do not need to use the tools I restored. but sometimes for fun yes. It is great to see you here my dear friend ⚙️⚒️✌🏻

Why Ms. Stanley, you look absolutely stunning!!
Thank you very much David
I’ve got a similar plane, a 60 1/2 . Missing the lever that aligns the blade , but still in daily use . The original blade wore out, so I replaced it with a cut down blade from an old wooden plane . My favourite plane for all that light duty work
Good job Rob, nice to see you here
Utter perfection! The way you polish rough metal is nothing short of amazing! 👏

I hadn't noticed you were increasing the noise of dismantling to suit some peoples ears. And immediately after you told us I appreciated hearing it myself. Great video.
Thank you Scott, I'm glad you like. I get feedback from many different opinions. Sound, resolution, color, music, story. For example some of them like high resolution and perfect lighting, some of them love the story colors. I always try to serve mix of every opinion and tastes. Nice to see you here and see you soon in another story 🗜️⚒️🌟🥃
Brilliant! Most plane restorations are for show only, and don't actually get the thing working properly.
Just a couple of minor observations....when flattening the sole, you should ideally have the plane fully assembled and everything tightened down (obviously with the blade withdrawn). The theory is that the casting is malleable and the tensions in it whilst assembled are different compared with when it is dis-assembled. It probably makes no difference for a block plane like this, but can make a substantial difference for a larger plane, such as a number 6 or 7. Secondly, you planed that wood against the grain!
I'm glad you like it Mike, great to see you here and thank you for details and your thoughts ⚒️🗜️🌟
The love used on this...
Thank you very much Will, I'm glad you like it. It's good to see you here 🌟🗜️⚒️
I've watched this one twice now and just as amazed the 2nd time around. Actually it was better. I picked up on several things I overlooked the 1st time. I can’t understand how this fairly new Stanley 9-1/2 Block plane got into such a state! I have one similar to this which I have had for many years. You made a great job of restoring it! It now looks better than mine!

Inspirational, soothing and calming - such a wonderful skill and thank you so much for sharing that incredible skill and beautiful surroundings ❤❤❤
Mike thank you very much my dear friend, you are so kind
No no... you are so kind for sharing your life, your work and surroundings. The videos you make, no words... like a silent movie everything is explained but without speech. The cats, the coffee , the cognac, ur next door neighbour, the hand tools and old British lathes / sanders - just wow - incredible. What is the grinding paste you use and is that beeswax or restoration wax? I have just received a Marples Block plane in a similar state to the one you had by Mr Stanley - i am in awe of your skill Sir Old Hands

You are an inspiration sir, I’ve tried my hand at some small restorations and they came out ok. I think I fail in one key area, its called patience, and of course this steals from its brother call detail, think I will go back to one of my first attempts and have a go at it again with brothers patience and detail leading the way, thank you for the video sir.
