“That’s a great place to store some things I know some people have.” The best quote.
Sounded a bit like our VP.🤣🤣
@@patrickfreeman205 that's giving her too much credit
👍🏻😉
As soon as he said that, I was going to comment. You beat me to it 😂
I came here to say the same thing.
I like how the stove has room on both sides
It’s EXACTLY what I need to get my wife into camping because she wants two dedicated bedrooms and baths for company, but also we have a dog that she would never allow into the master bedroom (shedding). The best of both worlds for me!
I’m afraid this layout is one of those that look really cool when shopping but after a bit of time you don’t like it . Living space is cramped, very little storage in kitchen and living space, and extremely small basement storage,.. The lack of storage is only something you’ll notice after using the trailer for a bit (I’ve been down this road once before).
I mean, that's totally fair. I don't like lofts so I watched this just for fun, but I'd go crazy without storage space.
Agree here - would not full time in this rig, but this thing screams vacation rig.
Hey JD I watched another video on this unit by Mylesrv and he mentioned that the cabinet doors to the lower right of the kitchen sink is a spot that is prepped for a dish washer!
Hey JD just want to say thank you for the videos, your channel has taught me so much. 2014 Ram 3500 Arctic Fox 1140
We looked at this model and the island is prepped for a dishwasher. Also, the solitudes are rated for full timers. So, it's built for the wear and tear. Love that it already has the water filtration system. We like it for maybe a different season in life.
Thanks for showing the front storage area! 😊😊
While this comment may not be relevant to this video. I’m curious to hear your thoughts about the RVs (new or used) that get complete makeover where walls and cabinets get painted, furniture gets swapped for a desk or recliners etc. In addition to shades, valances, lights, and maybe even faucets? Also do warranties get voided as a result of these renovations and resale/trade-in challenges? I think it’d be really cool to do a video that takes a little dive into this trend.
Thats a lot more money than I paid for a 2400sg ft brick ranch on a double corner lot. And the values go in two different directions.
For small kids the loft might be great. My claustrophobic daughter would never make it in there, which makes it kind of pointless. She could sleep in the back bedroom but it looked a little cramped as well, likely from the lower ceiling. It’s not a bad trailer, but it didn’t live up to something I would expect for that much money and besides the floor plan it was the little details. I would want the option for a farm sink. I would expect the soft close doors, better seating and more of it, motion sensing lights in the pantry. Maybe I’m just too picky but that’s a lot of money to spend on something that you’re going to have to upgrade yourself or wish you could. 🤷🏻♀️
The drawer is for pet supplies, bowls and such according to the brochure.
Bout time GD has a family friendly floor plan in the Solitude line.
Wow beautiful thank you for sharing this 🌹
This is a different floorplan for Grand Design, but I never really like floorplans designed with two separate bedrooms. As you mentioned JD, the loft area is great for a couple kids, and the rear bedroom could be for an adult child, but I was thinking it’s perfect for maybe an elderly parent(s) that might be living with you, in which case the second bedroom is perfect. However, what I don’t like about this, and other floorplans with a couch for two, is where do you seat everyone if you all want to sit and talk, play a game or watch tv?
You could put the dinette chairs around the couch if you wanted to face each other to talk, and I guess you could place a couple chairs on each side of the couch and put the kids on the floor looking up at the tv so you could all watch a movie together, but it’s just not an ideal senecio. If you don’t mind only having a couch for two, and you have an elderly parent(s) living with you, this is an excellent floorplan.
Really like this layout. Some of these bigger models are just goofy but this one was well laid out
Could the island doors you wish were drawers be a dishwasher prep???
BEAUTIFUL WOW !!!
This is a nice unit however, like other commenters have noted is the lack of sitting space. Alliance RV has added a second love seat to their dual suite floor plan. I invite everyone to check it out. It’s also about $20,000 less than Grand Design.
Hey JD I really like the fact that it had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms the only drawback is the living in kitchen area seem to be a little tight but I did like it Good thinking by grand design
Nice review keep up the good work
Awesome FW!!!
I like that it has bedroom in back with a bathroom and loft plus master bedroom very nice, only thing for me would be seating to watch TV..
Our dog insists on sitting between my husband and myself, so we appreciate that sofa.
This layout is becoming quite popular ever since avalanche 390ds made it popular. This one is quite nice but I don't understand why they didn't do the drop frame in the rear like other brands do. The Montana 381tb does it and it makes the loft so much bigger. Alliance did a take in this with the 395ds that makes the kitchen a bit smaller and gives a larger living area with two sofas. Pricing is much cheaper on the other options too. But I do love the showers in this unit.
Perfect 5th wheel for a family or when the in-laws come to visit
Very nice floorplan, good use of sleeping space. I do agree with another comment that the lack of seating would be a problem if you had alot of people staying with you. I think I would put the ladder up out of the way and put moveable recliners or big bean bag chairs against that wall. That whole wall for just the ladder looks like wasted space. The chairs/bean bags could be moved when the ladder needs to be down or the slide brought in.
Overall, it was a well thought out floorplan. Give me a dishwasher drawer in the big cabinet next to the sink and I would give this plan a solid 'A' grade!
Sweet rig
Very interesting layout. I just can't get over the ccc being only around 1400 lbs though.
Nice layout for a 2 bdrm, another alternative to a mid bunk.
I don’t like the second bathroom door entry location. The steps are in the way of the toilet when not deployed and this is important because the rear steps open to the rear of the unit and may not be able to be deployed in some campgrounds where you don’t have an extra 5’ to the rear. If you have a tight fit, steps cannot be deployed and toilet has steps in the way. I guess you can side saddle the toilet hole! Lol😂
I have a grand design and love the quality product! Beautiful unit, but way to pricey.
Thank you for the video!
very cool, and i know it has some big advantages. But the new age old question of "ok, but toy hauler" comes to mind.
Cool
I love to cook, the last thing I want is my living room on top of my kitchen. I like the units that have a forward kitchen living space and whatever on the back end, whether it's a garage or another bedroom.
Nice
I know that you don’t recommend towing behind the 5th wheel, but I can see where they may want to tow a small fishing boat or something light if they are camping near a lake. Maybe I think like that because I live in Minnesota. I can see where you would really need to know how to tow that type of combination, and you would need to know the various state regulations about length! I agree with another comment, and wonder why they never have a “Pop Up” over that rear area? I would think you could wire something in that doesn’t allow for the jacks to be raised until the roof is lowered. Give the people that would use that space some room when at the site.
In another vid on the solitude dl i saw, i can’t remember if it was the same one or not, but they said on the island where you wanted the drawers, there was a dishwasher option
Those cabinets over the drawer in the island looks like where a dishwasher would go
We just walked through this one at the boat and rv show here in Columbus ohio
Can the rear leveling jack be raised if you have a steeper driveway to keep from dragging?
the black flush anti siphon valve may be behind the panel as it is in other grand design units.
OMG six slides on it!
First!
I don't understand why they would have those speakers in that position behind the TV I would move them to the top of the cabinets
Mate 👍👍🇦🇺
JD love your videos, but you need some auxiliary lighting.
Mobil sweets makes a two story, the trailer is over 20 feet tall after the second story pops up, this is just a loft like most toy haulers
I wish a company would make this floorplan but delete the loft and make the front a bunk room or office/den. I know coachmen does something like that but it's not full profile and is a budget minded rv.
Hey could u do the Cedar Creek 355lf a rare floor plan and decently a rare rv, BECAUSE TERES ONLY 3 FOR SALE IN THE USA RIGHT NOW!!!
You can add two drawers fairly easily.
Can anyone provide details on the shower tower panel that’s in the master bath? Interested in swapping mine out. Most of the shower tower panels on Amazon are too tall
Cool, but would be better without the loft and perhaps with a bit more seating
Wonder if they can do a 60ft
The only issue I have is you can sleep at least 6+ people but only I love seat for two
So my wife and I want to get a rv but it’s just us so maybe a class c or a something. However I’m 6’9 and she’s 6’0. Any suggestions?
Oh man you had me so excited, about this until I noticed on little error. GVWR @ 0:59 is 16800 you stated the UVWR as the GVWR. :( UVWR is 15288. But I love your channel and we are all human.
Grand Design Solitude is still the last word in a quality fifth wheel that doesnt cost as much as a house
Not to cast shade or rain on your parade, but I had a new 2019 Grand Design, Reflection for 3 years. It was not a good experience. I was appalled at the lackluster design, fit, and finish. The customer service was poor and never fixed or address obvious manufacturer defects. I finally got rid of it and got a new Newmar London Aire. Couldn’t be happier with the follow up customer service, design, fit, and finish.
It doesn’t matter how much storage this has. With a 1400 cc you can’t use it all without being overweight. It’s made for lots of people and that means lots of stuff, food, and a little water in the tank.
Weekend unit not enough CCC for a full-timer.
So you can sleep what, 6-8, but only have seating for 2?
I’d have to modify that wet bay door to be independent.
Although I like the layout, I feel as though for the price, they missed the mark on some things that would end up driving me nuts. Overall it's a very nice RV.
Looks like the rear bedroom will never get direct AC. They might need to freeze out the rest of the place to get cool for themselves.
Dishwasher prep doors or not, those cupboards should be drawers, also I don't like opening a cupboard to have to open a drawer. Also the outside storage water doors, yes it should be one door. It's silly.
I dont like how manufacturers make a ton of sleeping space and then just give you 2 recliners in front of the TV.
Overhead outlets don't work well because most small appliances don't long enough power cords any more.
This in the surface looks like a big Rv, it sleeps at least 4 adults, ok maybe two couples and a room (loft). For kids. That takes up 8 hours of the day. Where are your 4 plus people gonna sit all afternoon? Two recliners and a table. Can’t be very comfortable sitting at a table all day long. I think a toy hauler is a better layout.
Needs more cargo carry, put a washer/dryer plus gen-set what's left in weight you can carry one guy and bottle of water. 🤣
No washer/dryer? Otherwise it's great
There’s plumbing and closet for stackable washer/dryer in the main bedroom
Its a great design for a very specific use. The only problem is that its completely useless due to the extremely low CCC. My 24" trailer has 300lbs more Too bad.
Who decided a nightstand hanging out over the side of the bed was a good idea?
$155k and no waster/dryer and regular pin-close cabinets. Grand Design has been drinking their own PR.
A nother good one I would only use the a 3500 truck the 20 21 fully equipped doge ram 3500 could hall this no problem 37 thousand 100 pounds not sure about a destination camper I'd use this as a full time unit
It s nice. However I would have changed some things in the design.
So what is the actual Asking price
Why do these all have such high price points and no LG/Whirlpool appliances, LG/Vizio tv, etc.!?
Does anyone really use more than the front two burners, those back burners look so close to the mini-blind, they can get really hot.
Not understanding why they are not building these like toy haulers so you can actually carry the "stuff" that you would need for so many "beds". It can sleep a lot but not be able to carry their stuff. Doesn't make sense. But if they built them like toy haulers then you'd have the cargo capacity to carry what you needed for a full family of 6.
What two bedrooms no living space
This is not two story. I would only consider it with at the least 3ft clearance.
🐼🤔⚖👍🏾
$155k and they won't let you have a friction hinge door. Screams cheap to me. Also, don't like the electrical outlets mounted they way they are. The electric cord on your coffee maker will not be long enough to reach it.
The price scares me.
At 6'5 I don't think this one is for me.
you lost me at, no drawer space I kitchen
155k-lol-5 years ago this was 80k
People just don’t it. The bigger the unit, the more stress there is on poorly made components, hence failures! Wise up people you cannot transport these mansions over tough roads without something breaking.
Geez, over 150,000 and one tiny loveseat that looks totally uncomfortable and the TV is in a crappy place. A child couldn't sit up in that loft. Ugh
I really do not like this layout. It seems like it was just thrown together.
ALL THOSE BEDS FOR PEOPLE TO SLEEP BUT ONLY 2 COMFORTABLE SEATS. NOPE.
As soon as he opened it up it had that same 'old folks home' brown.
I was immediately turned off. Apparently these manufacturers don't know any other color.
Half of this staff will fall apart in the first year
153k NOPE
Grand design. They look good, but do your research, you’ll be sorry.
Lots of places to sleep but only two places to sit🙄👎🏼
Grand Design prices are tooooo high now with poor quality construction.
Dont like it at all
Don’t like this at all. It seems cramped, I dislike the squeezed in tv/sitting area, not my cup of tea.
Anderson mobile suites is a 2 story RV. Until you can lift the roof 4 feet on these shitty fifth wheel rvs then it is NOT a 2 story.
