First 3 laps of 100th Indy 500 from north vista section 51

  • Front row seats in the north vista with my family at their first ever indycar race. Amazing how dramatically the camera slows these cars down and gives only the slightest hint of the speed these drivers carry through a corner! The speed is better seen on my family's faces immediately after the first and second laps. If you've never been to he Indy you are truly missing an experience unlike any other!

The sound 33 cars make. Running full throttle. Is amazing! A group of Hornets on steroids. Watching on T.V. is awesome! But being there for the first 5 laps. Just incredible. You have to experience it once in your life! Shawn.

As Steve Brothers says, it is true. Watching on TV or seeing a video from a spectator at the track does not at all capture the speed or physical senses that are woken up when these cars pass by you at 226 MPH. It is truly one of the "must experience" things to do. Each and every year I go. After my first experience, I am a 'lifer.'

I've seen indycar at Texas, the speed is simply incredible. It's right up there with experiencing 2 top fuel dragsters take off, or watching an F1 car tear through a set of turns.

Exactly! I 've been to CART Lausiztzring in 2001, and in MotoGP races (bikes), and only in real life it is possible to comprehend those speeds.

You have to go to a race in person to fully appreciate it and see how fast the cars are going. You just don't get that from TV, it makes the race look slower than it really is.

its just you. I see a lot of overlap. Both NASCAR and indy fans are people that love racing and love to have a good time. The different breed of people are the snob crowd of F1 - there's far more simularity between NHRA fans, NASCAR, and Indycar, whereas F1 fans will typically stick to just F1 or other 'refined' euro races like 24 hours at Le Mans.

I was in Section 27 Row Z of North Vista for this race. So, closer to entrance to turn 4 from where this video was taken. Mostly a boring race as there were very few passes in this section of the track. We did get to see Rossi coast to a stop on the warmup lane down in turn 4 at the end.

Let me say this to all racing fans.. Everyone likes to blame Tony George for the IRL/CART split in 1995.
Nothing could be further from the truth...CART wasn't even formed until 1979, and that very year they threatened a boycott of the 500 all the way up to the last minute...CART by the way stands for CORPORATE ATTEMPT for RACING TAKEOVER in my view.
From its inception it tried to take full control of the Speedway from the family that owned it since 1945..Prior to the split, the IndyCar series was by far the most prestigious series in the U.S.
When Cart split for failure to achieve their goal, the Corporations took their money to NASCAR..which made it America's most prestigious series in much of the media led sheeps view..Tony George created his own league and brought on the 25/8 rule as a response to CART'S Takeover ultimatum.... CART provoked the whole thing not the other way around as most all The Corporate Media outlets proclaimed at the time and for years after.. There are books now available on this subject. Tony George was simply doing what was in the best interests of his family's business and their personal property..Even Roger Penske admits this now...Paul Newman and Carl Haas often stated they would stop at nothing to get control of Indianapolis ....They failed... Roger has said often going along with the split was the biggest mistake he made...But since then the Corporate Control that made Nascar so popular in the mid 90s -early 2000s has ran the series in the ground with it's crazy rule changes and many fans have quit watching altogether.
It remains to be seen what Roger Penske will do with the IndyCar series now but like Tony George said, Penske is the man most ideally suited for stewardship to move the series forward again into the future.
NEVER BELIEVE WHAT THE NATIONAL MEDIA TELLS YOU ON ANYTHING...THEY ARE TOTALLY ABOUT CONTROL AND CONTROL ONLY...NEVER ABOUT THE TRUTH..
    .

With all due respect, there may be “better” seats, but judging by my family’s reactions I’d say these are far from “bad” seats. Enjoy this year’s race. We’re in turn1/turn2 short chute this year.
