What it Takes to Become a Fashion Designer

- In Episode 2 of the Fashion East documentary, we follow the journey of Lulu Kennedy’s newest recruits for their first shows with the designer mentorship scheme, and learn what exactly it takes to become part of Fashion East.
First up is recent MA graduate and menswear designer Stefan Cooke, who digitally manipulates timeless fabrics and classic charity shop gems, reproducing the print onto flexible synthetic materials, dressing an army of princes for battle on the runway. To find out what it takes to become a designer, we join Lulu at an inspirational talk to fashion students at Central Saint Martins, meeting the up and coming names who have a Fashion East sponsorship in their sights. Finally we’re introduced to Charlotte Knowles, a womenswear designer that specialises in the tension between revealing and concealing, and the Fashion East team call her into the office for a chat about opportunities in the near future…
How do you make the leap from fashion graduate to fully fledged designer? What do the Fashion East team look for in a newcomer? And after having just joined the scheme, will Stefan be ready to show at MAN?

Fashion people are so weird, I love it.
I know there appalling. I love it
I honestly want to become a fashion designer. Ik it won’t be easy but I’ll still pursue my dream of becoming a fashion designer.
Do it babe!
You got this! I too will attempt to pursue this career, it's been a dream since I was a kid. We can do it!
so do i, but i also feel like i wont be good enough
0:07 clothes are actually came from Ethiopia and Eritrea which is in east Africa
roses in eyes Yes! I saw that and instantly thought about Habesha kemis
Oh cool I’m glad they get the work and we provide jobs
it’s crazy to see how far mowalola has come from when this was recorded
I love that fashion has no rules
5:20 awweee mowalola!! she's come so far
watching this in 2020 and was so shook when the designer was charlotte knowles! I follow her on insta and LOOOOVE her clothes, see them a lot on pinterest too, so cool!
what's her insta?
when the fashion designers are hotter than the models LMAO
Who’s the Asian model with the big ears? He was so striking! His cheekbones saved my life
Awesome! ps though: the two dudes at the beginning are definitely wearing Ethiopian traditional weaved and loomed patterns - sup with that ? In a world that should be even more inclusive it's normal to promote one another feel inspired by other cultures than ours - given that we gave proper credit ! xx
i really want to be a fashion designer
Mala Syah Putri work hard for that then, have u designed something already?
Liz Cultures i am , yes but not much
I am studying fashion design and I Love it, but girl, you honestly wont get any sleep. It takes a lot of your time
i'm studying fashion as well and it's hella stressing , sleepless nights , so much money spent in fabrics and materials and also the digital work. But you know going through all that is worth it. Nothing satisfies me more than looking at a finished project and be like " I did all that by myself , it's 100 % genuine and it identifies with who i am and want to transmit to the world".. It's hard but we have to keep believing in our power
is there anyway we can see your work?
Cool stuff!

Is it cultural appropriation?
@@_ZiXin_ good question! is it cultural appropriation if credit was given and due legal procedure was followed? is it fair to ask up and coming designers to abide by these rules that will have significant financial costs incurred by them at the end? This is one of the questions that the fashion world might wanna have answers to and we need to chip in on that too. I say "no it's not, as long as it is properly credited, paid for and country of origin (through respective ministry) was contacted and legal guidelines from that country were respected. what do you think?

What’s the music used in this? Can’t find any of the tracks in the credits anywhere :(((
is there a way to watch the whole fashion show of them? their stuff looks amazing
How much can i make as a designer ?
عالی
God. I would love to study fashion design at Central Saint Martins but a lot of students there seem extremely pretentious and annoying.
Yh
I study fashion design there, about to go into my final year. I AGREE there is a lot of pretence and people whose ego overpowers their talent, but there are also equally a few select individuals whom you can tell will be the next big thing, and being at such an iconic place really propels you and motivates you to succeed. Sidenote: it took me three tries to get in!
👍
Video title:what it takes to become a fashion degsiner
Me:be good at art
then again u have ''streetwear'' brands like FTP or palace that really isnt fashion at all....and they make big bucks.
steezy gengentsu how is it not fashion?
thecookiam its just screen printing on tees and selling for $30-$40....
thecookiam anyone can do that easy
If it’s SO easy to make a lot of money by creating product and hype then do it yourself.
Easier said than done, try and market your brand in London where the fashion industry is inflated with thousands of other street wear brands, its quite a challenge.
mowalola legend
the industry is so over-saturated at this point
the creative industry is over-saturated, and there's nothing we can do about it.
Hello hello 😘
What did she say about poor people
No fkn way charity shop sueeeeee
4:57 wtf tho.....
5:10 clown is fashion? I dont get it.😕
Ilsunny Lo We are just in some dark times 🤧😞
You did not show me what it takes to become as fashion designer. 😔😕👎🏻
4:40 Jesus Christ. I’m into fashion at the max but that’s just over board, ridiculous and it does not look elegant nor nice.
I Love IT ! Cool Vid !!
