I don’t know shit about firefighting BUT I watch enough of these videos and this is one of the rare instances that water was immediately put on a fire. Within two minutes and three seconds of arriving on scene they had the fire hose spraying water and then less than 50 seconds later, they were using what I never see used, the deck gun. In my opinion, this was a job well done.
Great to see them use the deck gun as many don’t use them. They work great to knock down the fire quickly and then with the use of hand lines to work in tandem. Great job.
Well done! First line pulled: 2-1/2” hand line. Good start. Directing that line at the lowest area of fire - top marks. Early and very effective use of deck gun - outstanding! I agree with the other commenter that at some point, the gun is just chasing fire around and it should be replaced with cautious use of interior lines to extinguish the fire in detail. Very impressive overall.
Nice to see a video where the fire department is actually competent. They get there and get water on the building as soon as they can and it seems like everybody knows why they're there. Excellent job ladies and gentlemen.
Good call on the monitor. Early established water supply, don't mess around with hand lines that won't get anywhere fast. Got to say tho... the second time I saw one of my guys lose a helmet, before he became a liability and a statistic, he would be having a seat, and a long discussion with our safety officer over the usefulness of helmet straps and why helmets come with them as standard equipment. Overall good job tho.
It fell off a second time moments later, really had me face-palming. I remember being a 16 year old kid and having the privilege of being a fly on the wall to a pumps class despite being too young to actually take the class. I was walking with my helmet tucked under my arm when someone asked me for a hand putting a hard sleeve back on the engine. I set my helmet on top of my head to free up my hands. I leaned my head back to look up at the spot we were putting the hard sleeve and off came my helmet. Oh boy... the instructor was *not* happy, I learned my lesson that day. Even though I wasn't actually participating in the class and until that point had not touched a single piece of equipment and was standing back I still got a good scolding for not wearing my helmet properly. Although I really had no reason to be wearing any of my gear at all at the time because, again, I wasn't even participating, just watching lol. But the point remained, you never wear your helmet without properly fastening it. Seems like this fireman needs an instructor like that to come into his life.
@@ren3171 my years on the fire ground, and teaching, I've seen this too many times. I've watched "FNG's" drop brand new Sam Houstons in the dirt like it was trash. It was always a huge pet peeve for me. To see an " experienced" FF do it drives me nuts. Old firefighters are old for a reason.
Great job guys. Not easy getting everyone together when you are a volunteer FD. People like to criticize, someone always feels they know how it should have been done. The house was totally involved when you started. You kept it from spreading to other buildings. Cheers to you all! 👩🚒👩🚒👩🚒😁
Very impressive this company! Got on scene went straight to work, great job with the deck gun and getting this fire knocked down quickly. This is one of the best videos I've seen. This company knows there job and does it very well.
Great job! Excellent example of defensive attack. It's clearfrom the beginning that the fire is too far advanced to attempt saving the structure. Water was put on fast, and every effort was made to prevent spread to any exposures. This department is very well trained, and it shows.
Great use of the deck gun, but also a fantastic example of how it can push heat, fire, and smoke out of other openings in the building. I guess that's why it's never deployed when firefighters are in the building!
Out of all of these videos I been watching. This has got to be one of the fastest water supply hookups and hose put into operation. These guys clearly have there training down.
The paramedics and firemen deserve a lot of credit your service is deeply appreciated thanks to everyone who responds keep them safe out there job well done you should be proud ! Joe
I really liked the fact that these fire fighters were spraying water on the flames within 3-4 minutes of arriving. Some of these videos, they take 8-10 minutes, it's almost like they're just letting it burn.
Awesome use of deck gun, most forget that’s a important tool for a quick knock, then go to hand lines. But might as well get the truck ready for pipe work, that was a doubtful situation upon arrival . Strong work.
That place was really cooking on arrival, but once that deck gun started operating. They had a quick knock down. ( great job guys) When I was a volunteer firefighter, I worked the deck gun whenever I got a chance to. Hopefully the person who was responsible for the fire, too took responsible for it. Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the Citizens of your coverage area
Didn't expect to see this recommended to me, I can see my house. I remember coming outside to grab a package and seeing the flame. My neighbor told me that the house just sold on January 6th only for it to burn down the same month.
The use of the deck gun so fast was a very good move and the idea of the large hand line was good but was not used properly! Is was not flowing the proper amount of water to low of pressure or to low of GPM air both no better then a regular small hand line ! And a note . When you have a house of this age more then likely you have individual boards on the roof so you can use your deck gun to blow off the shingles which will let you get water into the attic space thru the spaces between the boards and speeding your extinguishment. But it was gone from the start ! Good video !
And yes damn good job on using your deck gun ..not sure why some look down on them they serve a purpose and work very well great to see this fire co use there deck gun!!@@
Yes sir I agree 👍 💯, but you do realize that 75% of these Monday morning armchair quarterbacks have never been in the fire service to begin with except to stand at the edge of the street and watch the big red fire truck 🚒 go by ! Anyone can pick a video apart...few can find the quality in it and I think they were calm, organized and it's obvious that they have trained and knew what they were doing. Volunteer or paid I've been on a volunteer department my career and we (like this department) operated better than some paid departments I've seen!
Damn - I didn’t watch the whole thing - maybe it all went south after five minutes - but THIS is how to attack a fire. A hose working within two minutes of arrival. Some companies take that long to try to determine what to do. Then the deck gun going within another minute. What is that? Many companies seem to be clueless even how to even use one. But did you note how quickly the fire abated? Maybe it burnt to the ground finally - I got sleepy and had to go to bed. But I would sleep a whole lot better if I knew a company such as this was nearby! Bravo!
awesome to see the deployment of large hose on arrive vs. attack lines and like others have commented great to see deck gun in operation. Well done and hope everyone is safe
But the large hand line was not used properly ! Either the pressure was way to low or the GPM was set to low or both it was a good thought but not implemented properly was no more effective the a small hand line !
YES.....YES.....I love it when departments have the knowledge to know when to hit it with the gun. So many Fire Academy Instructors teach the new firefighters to pull 1.75 baby lines on everything and don't even teach deck gun usage anymore, let alone how to fight infernos like this. GOOD JOB !
Nice job with the deck gun! My uncle who was a fireman once pointed out the importance of an engine equipped with one, especially when it's the first to arrive at a scene such as this... @@TheDrLivingstone I agree with all you said. It was a total loss when they arrived. But the working together is fantastic. And even it was lost they did a great job.
Good job with the deck gun, however at least one of the hundreds of Chiefs on scene should have pulled the Firefighters operating the hoselines AWAY from under the master stream, or shut down the deck gun until they were out of the way. Last month this same house was outputting smoke enough to blank the neighborhood and cause your clothing to smell like ash, there was no fire though and it disappeared 10 minutes afterwards. My neighbor suspected it to be a blocked chimney maybe. Well the house sold a little after that and then burned down the same month it was sold. (I live at the intersection and witnessed the fire)

Depends. Our department policy is do NOT pass the fire to go to a station and a firefighter who stops at the fire might assist in evacuation or mitigate damage
Seeing the debris outside on the front and side of the house when the first pump arrives as well as the strength of the fire in the whole building, it is certain that there was an explosion.

About time...someone uses the deck gun to knock down high volume of fire and not a 13/4" line.
This is by far the first time, and fastest, I have seen a Department act to get water "on" the fire when they first got there. Well done.
Fast water happens all the time. You just haven't seen it.
Nice to see they know how to use a deck gun. So many depts have them for decoration and never use them.
Spectacular footage! Thank God for wood frame houses. You Americans know how to create a great show
Stubborn fire. Great job using the deck gun right away.
💯
Thank you for using the Deck Gun but it should have been first.
Fire trucks are fitted with DECK GUNS FOR A REASON.... EXCELLENT JOB KNOCKING DOWN THIS FIRE....HATS OFF BOYS GREAT EXACUTION.....

but the fire had to be shutted down to protect the neighborhood.

Deck guns need to be used more often. The moment you have a water supply, they can kill a fire real fast.
20 seconds of DG water would have knocked this down so it couldn't spread. Tank water would have been fine.
