    ABOUT BECKET:
Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas. After graduating from college, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.
Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man. He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service. After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.
Becket’s book, A Change of Affection: A Gay Man’s Incredible Story of Redemption, with a
foreword by Francis Chan, published by Thomas Nelson, released July 30, 2019.

If I watched this without any prior knowledge of this book or the author, these comments would lead me to the assumption that the author holds to affirming views and theology, and is not willing to commit to difficult biblical truths. Comments to the effect that Preston Sprinkle is ‘leading people along the wrong path’ and suggesting he is promoting a ‘gospel that requires no self-denial’ certainly suggest that he is in favour (in the context of this book) of people embracing ‘self-identity’ and in favour of transitioning. More broadly it would suggest that he affirms same-sex relationships. That is a gross misrepresentation. Furthermore, while I think it would be fair to ask questions about the particular section discussed, I believe a more nuanced approach and a wider discussion of the context of that particular passage would be more helpful. I believe it is important to call out wrong or misleading teaching, however I believe that the tone of this conversation and belittling comments directed toward the author were ungracious, and not a fair representation.

I was directed here from Sprinkle's response to Butterfield's criticism. This grieves me. I'm such a huge admirer of these three (and always will be). I take Butterfield's caution seriously re: anything that erodes our understanding of the gospel, and not having read Embodied, I'm quite open to the idea that Sprinkle has said some things that need to be sharply challenged. My grief, however, is that Sprinkle has reached out to have a direct conversation with Butterfield about this and was denied. It's just bad behaviour to make these kinds of accusations publicly but not be willing to engage Sprinkle (even privately) when he tells you you're misrepresenting him. I'm grieved to see this from someone I admire so deeply.

Dr James white has spoken out on Sprinkle as he is in support of those who are transgender as well as homosexual affirming them. What shock and plunges my heart is that he along with messy grace as well as other reformers like gospel colliation has endorese these sinfulful idealogies all for the sake of being loving. I hear the testimony of messy grace pastor and he asked the lord to give him messy people. And this is certainly not from the Lord cause if it was he wont be condoning such sin in his church. This grieves me alot to hear such a testimony and to see what has occured.

@@sorrowinchrist3387 Thanks for engaging, sorrow. I'm not familiar with messy grace, however, I am familiar with Preston Sprinkle and the Gospel Coalition it's just simply and obviously (if you read their stuff) false to say that they affirm homosexual relationships. As for the comment of the messy grace pastor, don't equate welcoming messy people with condoning sin. That's precisely the mistake the Pharisees made when they criticized Jesus for hanging out with tax collectors and prostitutes. If the church can't call messy people, it can't call anyone. Again...I'm not familiar with messy grace, so maybe they are condoning sin. But that's not a fair conclusion based simply on what you've referenced.

    • @craighoekema8609

@sorrowinchrist3387 Actually...upon further investigation, it turns out I am somewhat familiar with messy grace (i.e. Kaleb Kaltenbach), and I would say the same thing about him as about Sprinkle and the Gospel Coalition...he VERY clearly does not support same-sex sexual relationships as godly. So again, I'd caution you against Pharisaism in criticizing these fellow believers.

However there are some things that definitely need some push back but I think that this video is a bit harsh. I know that people who have come out of the lgbtq lifestyle will have a different perspective and can say things that others cannot, which is important. . He does try very hard to understand where people are coming from and how they got where they are. Perhaps not well at times and perhaps this is his flaw; however I’m not sure this was a completely fair review without his perspective. Just a Christian sisters thoughts ❤

Rosaria has much good to contribute, but she misrepresented Preston Sprinkle in her review. The use of "scare quotes" MAY indicate derision or skepticism of an idea, but it may also indicate a sense of irony. To write about "the fall" does not necessarily imply derision or skepticism. Rather, it would be an invitation to explore the nuances of what is meant by the doctrine. Rosaria chose to use the worst possible meaning associated with what Preston wrote in his book, Embodied, thus poisoning the well, and negatively coloring the rest of the discussion in this video clip. In agreement with Rosaria, Preston could have tightened up his theological analysis, as the Gospel Coalition review also stated. But the wholly negative characterization of Embodied in this video is seriously unfortunate. Becket: you should get Preston on your channel to offer a response. Furthermore, Rosaria is certainly well-read enough to know that most Reformed interpreters speak of Adam's Fall in terms of "felix culpa," Latin for "O, Happy Fall." Is she willing to dump the language of felix culpa that critics of the Reformed tradition find objectionable?

@@karenhubbard5037 When Preston Sprinkle is putting "the fall" in scare quotes, as Rosaria put, it does not mean what she thinks it means. The question Sprinkle is trying to raise is how to make sense of why some are born intersex and most others do not. An analogy might be in terms of blindness. I have a friend who is blind, but she has a sense of hearing that is very, very acute and powerful. She experiences the world in ways that others will never have. That special sense of hearing is a gift. It would be dishonoring to the Lord to call that gift a product of "the fall." But she would not have that gift if she was not blind. Perhaps there are ways that intersex persons have some sort of created gift that others do not have. This does not negate the fact that both blindness and intersex are in some sense products of "the fall." Furthermore, this is NOT a denial of Adam's Fall more generally. It’s so encouraging to hear people able to call a spade a spade. I’m in full agreement with her comments. However, there is a mocking tone in the way it’s discussed that I think does all three a disservice. Even as we admonish each other, there’s a way that we do so that leaves a taste of being so assured of our rightness and correctness that is almost smug in its expression. And that makes me sad here despite my agreeing with the crux of their discussion of this book.

    • @rashidah9307
      @rashidah9307 5 місяців тому

I agree with you. I hate the smugness. HOW we talk matters as much as what we say because it's a reflection of our heart towards others, which goes back to loving our neighbor as ourselves... It actually hurts my heart to see how divided the Church is and how we keep drawing these circles, trying to say that everyone who doesn't think like us isn't a child of God, isn't a part of God's family. To me, Jesus was so much more focused on how we live our lives. Let's stop pretending that we're not all influenced by our culture, just like the people of the Bible. It's literally the water that we're swimming in, people. We have so much to learn from each other. The ears need to stop telling the hands that they don't need them and vice versus. If we ain't got charity in our hearts, we ain't got nothing, folks. We have become Pharisees.

I've been wondering lately. To set the context an old friend of mine at Church would always ask two questions upon seeing you... What is the Lord showing you? and What are you reading in your quiet time? I don't think i've dropped the habit of asking but i just wait a little longer into the conversation these days... What is surprising to me, and having just transitioned from one church assembly where the pastor's interpretation is the only one, regardless if it lines up with scripture (and actually not...) , so i moved on... But what is surprising is first how few people study or going deeper from what my unofficial survey might be. If someone is reading something let's say 10-15% of all the people I'll ask, of that small number of people in the Church that are even reading and studying might be again only another 10-15% of them are reading scripture first then another book... Might be a good reason i might paraphrase some verses and hear people tell me "Dan, that isn't biblical..." huh? Or in a bible study one night we were talking about what faith is. Again paraphrased Heb 11:1 and the person responded with "Well that is your opinion... I believe faith is..." Hehe a younger me would have jumped all over him, but trying to mellow out and be a little more gracious, at least he is in the Bible study ☺ And yes after about four month i tried coming alone side and help clarify it for him, not that i'm some grand know it all, i just point people to what God has said and get people in line with scripture.
But now we get to the point why i'm even leaving a response. I'm getting to the point where i wonder if a Christian reads and studies.... Should it be the Bible or other books written by other men... Or another way i've been considering it there seems to be two facets. One facet is... Isn't it "Spiritual Adultery" to first read other books forsaking God and going after man's wizDUMB? As good as another "Christian Author" might be? Still another person/human as well meaning and honest they might be to scripture, how would they line up in a sense of reliability and authority with scripture...? The second facet, i wonder if we consider reading and studying thing might be in a way more like that tithe. Meaning my tithe when i give should be first to and only to my local assembly... Nothing stops me from giving more *AFTER* i have given my tithe... Kind of a loose parallel but sure you can see the point. There is a basic requirement one could assert should be met, reading the scripture first and tithing first, anything beyond that is more on a free will basis.. Not that reading or learning from other is bad, the first should be one's own personal responsibility...
While there is one more tangent, while we are on the subject that seems rather prevalent. I've seen a couple ministries which have "Public Reading of Scripture" and anyone in the Zoom meeting might stand up after reading a passage and give their own interpretation saying "I feel this is telling me xxx!" "Feeling, nothing more than feelings..." Doesn't matter if it lines up with the scripture... "Feeling, trying to forget life... haha..." That is the other thing i find so prevalent in most churches, or with most professing followers of Christ these days. Many will stay a given passage is teaching 'x'... While if one really gets in and studies or understands what the passage which most orthodox (non-liberal) teachers would say it is teaching is completely different from what what the person said it is saying to them... Not to say God's word isn't living and active, just hard hearing one ramble on what a passage generally is addressing another subject is now all about what it "means to them..." Why would i be so critical about this, the issue is more often when i see/hear this happening it doesn't line up with the rest of scripture... That is why for me it seems there is a problem.
In a nutshell what it seems is happening is with the proliferation with so many Christian authors and books, seems many have an attitude it is perfectly fine to chime in what they think a passage means. Seriously who are you to say 'x' is right or wrong, this is true for me because i think.... Hmmm, The heart is deceitfully wicked?
Anyway as with most stuff, glad to see Mr. Becket bringing attention to this... Last observation we might do well to remember.... The single biggest warning in scripture about the last days.... "Do not be deceived..." But so easy when most professing Christians don't even have a clue what the Bible says. Not trying to be harsh, just my unofficial observation. So in the end just seems more like spiritual adultery to go after foreign gods, oops i mean other sources of truth than the Bible...?

@@trinidad2450 Absolutely! Would assert your attitude is exactly what God wants and is best 😊. God knows my sins i'll commit tomorrow, already forgiven and paid for on the Cross... Reading Phil 3:12) Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. I would be more one the side that Christ has done it all, kind of like a set of parents in this case our father has born or reborn us spiritually, and we know that He is the one living out through us... Gal 2:20) I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
      While we see other scripture that would tells to work.. Like in: Phi 2:12) So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;
Hmm so we do work, might assert the biggest job we must do is simply "Die to ourselves..." That old dead nature even Paul we read "The things i want to do i don't and the things i wish not that is what i do... wretched man that i am..." Sure you know the feeling 😥 But that is the beauty of God's Grace, highlighting God's love, compassion, patients, forbearance and all the reast He has towards us. When i sin and feel ashamed to i run and fashion leafs to cover my shame or should we boldly, yet humbly turn back and ask forgiveness. Might assert that while the devil is our enemy we ourselves are the biggest enemy, the devil can at best only tempt us, we have to give in and do it. This is what i think our primary work in "work out your own salvation..." really is, dying to ourselves, not easy at all and as long as we are here. I'm looking forward to when God will give us a new heart, one of flesh, i.e. (hehe too good not to quote😍)
Jer 31:31) “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,
      32) not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord.
      33) “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
      34) They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the Lord, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
Anyway love your sentiment and your soft/willing heart to say "I need to remember what God has said". I sometimes ask people when does God ever make sense? I would actually say nearly never to us. God ways are not our ways...
Isa 55:8) “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.
      9) “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Rom 1:17) For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.”
Then again the big elephant in the room about God never making sense... Why would He ever pick me? I'm a sinner who had no regard for God, even worse to think if/since i have freedom in Christ (Gal 5:1) I still sin willingly, that power of sin is a bit too strong for any of us. I.e. the work to submit and turn to Christ.. But what makes no sense to me is in my case why did God ever choose me, and for that matter when i willingly continue in sin and He doesn't blot me out. Not that i'm actively living in or rebelling in any great sin willingly, even in the O.T. it says a righteous man falls seven times a day... (Prv 24:16). I might be up to a few 100 or more 😯 Heheh might be okay if i don't go over 490 (seven * seventy)?

I read both your comments, and as a faithful servant of God, I have this to share with both of you: In all my years of service and beyond I have NEVER met a single person who showed enough Faith in God to take Him up on His infallible Promise concerning His only True & Faithful Tutelage*, there is, so as to actually turn to Him to be taught by Him alone. *A few of the relevant references concerning the same - eg. Jn 6:45, Isa 54:13, Jer 9:12, Prov 1:23, Matt 11:29, Matt 23:10, Matt 13:52, Jn 14:26, Jn 16:13 etc. In fact people (so-called believers and non-believers alike) assume I am lying when I testify that I am taught by God alone, and that I faithfully Teach & Proclaim only that which He has entrusted to me to!!! Indeed! So, suffice for now that you learn first the God-ordained method (therefore absolutely fool-proof) that He has established since of old to help all Truth-seekers to discern between the Infallible & Irrefutable Word of God and the Worthless & Futile words of men - for the Word of God/or the Gospel (short for God-spelt)/or the Absolute, Infallible & Irrefutable Truth is that which God as the Father first Spoke and Revealed; then the Self-same Word God as the Son (the ONLY ONE to do so) truly & fully Fulfilled, Exemplified, Taught & Reinstated and finally which God as the Holy Spirit continues to Teach & Remind as infallibly promised by God. Just as 1 Jn 5:7 testifies & exhorts us, 'These are the ONLY THREE Valid & Perfectly Concurring Witnesses there is.' All else, whether found within the Bible (refer here Jer 8:8, Isa 43:27, Hos 6:7, Ezek 2:3, Ps 78:57, Mal 3:7, Isa 2:22, Jer 17:5-6, Isa 32:5-7, Matt 7:15-16, Matt 15:19, 2 Jn 9-10, 2 Pet 2, Jude 4 etc. etc..) or without, are nothing but Worthless & Futile teachings of men. It is only appropriate here that I also clarify the meanings of the Triune Identity of God which distinguishes Him SOVEREIGN & ABOVE all, most importantly above the ever-vying Satan who lest we forget is also ONE - so much for minitheism! Firstly, understand that Father truly means The Creator & The Provider - this is the reason it is forbidden to call anyone on earth Father (eg. Matt 23:9). Likewise, Son truly means The Heir, and God being ONLY ONE, He is the ONLY HEIR of all that He created and is to create anew - the reason just as it is revealed none can even hope to partake of the 'divine sonship' without Him (Jn 1:13, Rom 8:14-19, Jn 3:6 & 6:63..). Lastly, God is Spirit (Jn 4:24) and God is surpassingly or incomparably Holy (Lev 19:2, Matt 5:48, 1 Pet 1:15) - the reason just as it is revealed, it is the Holy Spirit who knows and gathers those who are His own (Jn 3:6, Isa 32:16b, 2 Tim 2:19). You see, just as it was prophesied since of old, for eg. refer Isa 9:6, the Son given us is the Mighty God who is also called the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace and the Wonderful Counselor - in other words, the Father, Son & The Holy Spirit respectively.
Trust you will arm yourself with all above truth henceforth and be on your guard. Hopefully, more upon hearing from you. Love & prayers.

I recall reading how she was speaking out about only using the Psalter for church music. She came from a very self-righteous position on this issue. I thought, "wait a minute, here.....how does only using the Psalter sit with Paul's teaching to use psalms, hymns and spiritual songs" in worship (Ephesians 5:19)? Well, I couldn't be bothered to actually speak up about this, but since then I've been careful to read her "pronouncements" with an eye to "Is this biblical?" She definitely violated scripture by not addressing this privately with Preston, and hiding behind her husband and pastor is just plain goofy. I would add "ditto" to her jumping on CRU at a public event.....that isn't the way believers are to address grievances. In conclusion, I encourage Rosaria fans to be careful before jumping on her bandwagon.

Rosaria, thank you for taking a stand for truth. You take to heart the exhortation in God’s word, “Study to show yourself approved unto God… rightly handling the word of truth.” 2Tim 2:15. Beckett, thank you for hosting!

this clip is so disappointing. i saw C. Yuan at a Rethink conference, I've listened to R.Butterfield on Socrates in the City and I have attended Preston's conference and have read the book. What I find so insulting is the condescending laughter and comments that emerge in the 7 min I watched this. Christians being so accusatory with other Christians.. here we go again. Butterfield was UNWILLING to allow Sprinkle to respond yet she makes these claims? That is hugely irresponsible and heretical in my opinion..Even if you posture yourself as having the right perspective of this, what about Matthew 18:15? "If your brother sins, go and point out their fault.."? It DOES NOT SAY throw daggers at them in a condescending way. You are required as a believer to address the issue. It's irresponsible Christianity, harmful and terrible journalism. They are VERY clear about their theological principles, post-modern, really? Check with them and you'll see their perspectives are valid and theologically aligned with the Bible, are yours?

I just love all 3 of you for your love and devotion to Jesus and promoting the truth of the beautiful gospel. Thank you for pointing out the subtle but very suggestive language of a "bible scholar" (yes, those are scare quotes lol) who craftily spins the truth for a lie. This especially grieves me because more and more children are profoundly confused and their identity is based on these false teachings. Too many parents are concluding that in order to love their child, it means to walk their teenager/young adult for "medical treatments/procedures" (oops, scare quotes again ) that are so harmful, that they remind me of a horror story out of a nazi concentration camp. I call all this subtle teaching nothing less than child abuse and its ripple effects are doing so much damage to our children's minds and souls. A person's value and worth is so much more than this and it's amazing that God thought so too and came to redeem us all. Love and hugs to you three 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you for warning ⚠️ us about books like this. It's so hard to know what books (and there are so many) are ok. My family is just starting to read and study the Bible (which I know there are many translations) and my granddaughter (14 almost 15 yrs old) will pick a list of "recommended" books she got from I'm not sure where 📚 and then I'm trying to figure out if those are going to be biblically sound or not. It's hard. One of the books she wanted had something like "finding your true self and living the life you are meant to live on the front" and I had this feeling I just wonder what that might be about. She reads very little, so when she does read I want it to be the right books if it's supposed to be Christian nonfiction and about faith. I am learning so much and realizing how much confusion there is about the Bible and Christianity. 😞😔 My daughter is new to the Bible and is always being questioned about her faith & the Bible and it seems like people are always trying to disprove the Bible and we are always trying to explain it, defend it. When my daughter asked "who is Isaiah?" I knew we had a long way to go!!

After this video though, wouldn't the Biblical response be to reach out to Preston yourselves and have a dialogue with him? You could be like Priscilla correcting Apollos' theology in Acts 18. He is open to dialogue, and it would be beneficial to talk to him. Wouldn't it be amazing to walk away from a conversation with him knowing that he listened to you bring every word of his and your own back to scripture? How beneficial would it be to watch him possibly repent of his thinking or be able to expand on his thoughts with you and then be provided proper correction when necessary? In my mind, this is the worst kind of review. Not just because it's casting barbs at the voiceless, but also because of the severely uncharitable lines taken. But most of all, because I think this kind of discussion is unbiblical and the exact thing we see in the world (worldly). While it is not possible to be "united" to every supposed believer, to treat someone like this who was given a good review by TGC, and is widely considered to be orthodox, seems to strike at the very heart of "preserving unity", "having no divisions among you", and "they will know you are Christians by your love [for one another]" (1 Cor. 1:10, 1 Pet 3:8, Eph. 4:1-6, Phil. 2:2, 2 Cor. 13:11, Colossians 3:14, John 13:35). By all means, call out clear heresy, and seek to restore a brother who is committing it, but also be very careful in making that public accusation unless you know you're accurately representing him and his position. "The first to plead his case seems right, until another comes and examines him." (Prov. 18:17 NASB)
One point of irony: assuming I heard her correctly, Rosaria seems to be looking down on parachurch resources. What are her books and this very podcast?

I'd like to read a medically sound, orthodox christian book on transgenderism. However, it doesn't sound like 'Embodied' is that. Does Sprinkle's book lead a person to the conclusion that surgically/medically changing genders is a good and beautiful notion in general? Because I know only seriously disastrous cases of people who have done this (MANY of them, over 50 years, the newest ones quite recent). I do sympathize with the sexually confused and/or dysphoric, but I do not at all see encouraging them to attempt to convert their gender surgically/hormonally etc. as a good end. And those who encourage this effort in others are either too naive or deliberately deceptive.
[To be fair, for those who were born intersex or sexually ambiguous, this is a completely different, and 100% medically legitimate issue.]

Disability theologians are theologians who specifically study disabilities in light of God's word. It's quite important and beautiful and has been huge especially among the deaf community.
One of the things they consider is whether or not it is appropriate to say that disabilities are a result of the fall or did God beautifully, purposefully, and wonderfully knit together disabled people? Do we count the disabled as less than? Or do we realize their profound worth and value? They are a gift to the church, an essential part of the body. So, Preston was asking is it appropriate to call intersex people (those born with chromosomal abnormalities that result in atypical features and genitals) results of the fall? Or did God knit them together beautifully and they are a gift. That is a major question that disability theologians try to tackle. It's not laughable. These are actual beautiful images bearers we are talking about.

    • @petalblossom96
      @petalblossom96 5 місяців тому

@@kaciclark85 Thank you for explaining, although I wasn't at all laughing at disabled people. Rosaria Butterfield herself had never heard of the term, nor had Beckett or the other guest. It's not a widely known term or role and as such can understandably sound humorous to some.
With regards to disability, as someone who provides care to two close disabled loved ones, it is apparent to me that Jesus's response to disabled people during His time on earth was to heal them. If they were meant to be disabled, He would not have done so. It is therefore not an insult to disabled to believe - especially since Adam and Eve were made in perfect physical wholeness without disability - that disability is a product of the fall.
At the same time, not every disabled or ill person will experience healing in this lifetime. On multiple occasions in Scripture, God's people are commanded to care, advocate for and to protect those who are disabled or who may be otherwise vulnerable. And God clearly values the life of disabled people, explicitly stating that He made them and placed them on earth among us. Moses had a speech impediment, Apostle Paul had a 'thorn in the flesh' yet God used both mightily. Disabled people are valued and cherished by God.
We are ALL a product of the fall, bearing imperfections in our mind and flesh that God did not originally intend us to bear. I don't believe disabled people are any different. But Jesus died to pay the penalty of mankind's sin, and we are now commanded to love God with all our heart, soul and mind, and to love our neighbours - including and especially those who are disabled - as we love ourselves. God bless you 🙏

@@petalblossom96 I'm sorry. I didn't mean to indicate I thought you were laughing at disabled people. I believed you were laughing at disability theologians. I would encourage you that a Christian posture of humility would take the time to look up terms you are unfamiliar with, to first seek clarification and understanding, before jumping to laughing at people. You mentioned loving your neighbor. Would you want people to misunderstand what you have said and instead of patiently and humbling asking you for clarification would you want them to just laugh at you and post UA-cam videos about you being a heretic?
The concept of disability theologians in decades old. I first heard of them while attending John Piper's church (reformed and conservative). When I come across a field of study or terminology I am ignorant of, I don't just laugh at other's. I seek to understand so I can make a well-educated and thoroughly Biblical critique. It was inappropriate of Rosaria to grossly misrepresent a book and to do so without even seeking to understand the terminology in the book. She could have done a quick Google search. The chapter she is quoting from is regarding intersex individuals. He isn't talking about transgenderism. They aren't the same thing. Preston spends incredible amounts of time distinguishing the two for the reader. She either didn't read the book or is immensely illiterate when it comes to the sciences. In response to individuals with congenital adrenal hyperplasia, she literally says, "Maybe the fall caused us to want things God hates". Having a genetic abnormality is not "desiring things God hates".
I'd really really encourage you to read the book. You don't have to and probably won't agree with everything in it. It follows a traditional Christian sexual ethic. He concludes that you should indeed be the gender God made you, submit to the Lord, not transition, repent, believe, and grow in sanctification. He also addresses how we help disciple brothers and sisters who are struggling with gender dysphoria. How do we handle youth group, bible studies, overnight youth retreats with individuals who are struggling or with the outside world who we are inviting in to these places to help them learn about Christ!

But perhaps you shouldn't personalise the behaviours of strangers on the internet so much. Me laughing at a terminology should not be offensive to you. @@petalblossom96 I believe the point of commenting on UA-cam videos is either to garner likes/dislikes, affirm the content, disagree with the content, or initiate conversation? Out of all of the comments, yours made me the most genuinely curious. Why would someone find the concept of theologians who study disabilities to be eye crying funny?
I'm sorry. I had no intention of being patronizing. I wasn't trying to lecture you on your humor. I was assuming that your laughter meant ignorance of the terminology. Which you confirmed. I figured I would let you know that it is a real and beautiful field of study in Christianity. Honoring God's image bearers and helping us all to be more kind, sensitive, and utterly amazed.
As with all aspects of our lives, don't you think even our humor should be submitted to the Lord? If what I find funny hurts others or leads them to believe that I am mocking people, it's worth examining my humor. If I was having a conversation at a coffee shop with someone and I mentioned disability theologians and you began laughing at what a hilarious term that was...can you see how I might be genuinely curious why you are laughing? Can you see how I politely assumed ignorance of terminology rather than malicious intent?
Your response makes it sound like you were laughing at a cat video. This video is literally calling a brother in Christ a heretic. In the video Rosaria says, "Never heard of a disability theologian *everybody starts shaking head and laughing* not on planet earth. No footnote for some old cranky grandmother like me to understand". I'm saying, this is not the posture of Christian humility. If you are Christian authors with a massive following and you are going to critique a book to the point of calling someone a heretic...spend the literal 30 seconds it takes to simply Google disability theology. That's not impractical. That's love and discernment. That's refusing to be intellectually lazy. That's taming your tongue and avoiding slander and reviling. You joined in on their laughter.
Also, when someone says, "hey, that sounded insensitive and hurtful" the correct response is "I'm sorry". It is technically a form of gaslighting to say that anyone who disagrees with you or finds fault with your behavior is automatically hypersensitive, patronizing, and they shouldn't be offended. If someone says your humor is hurtful and you say, "I laughed. It really is not the end of the world"...that's immature at best. I hope you never accept that kind of dismissive treatment from another human. I'm so genuinely sorry if people have been that cruel to you. Seriously, if you told your husband, "Hey that joke was really insensitive" and he says back, "you're just hypersensitive! I laughed. It's not the end of the world"...that is emotional abuse.
