- It's crazy to think that this channel has been going for 13 years now, and in that time I have reviewed literally hundreds of ciders from all over the world. So, I thought it would be a good idea to go back to where it all started, and give Thatchers Gold the fair review it deserves.
I prefer their Haze too. ❤ I used to love Gold back in the day, it's OK but I haven't chosen to buy it in years, I usually receive it as a birthday or fathers day present. 😊
Great minds think alike then! Like you, I wouldn't actively seek out and buy Gold, but I'm not adverse to having it either.

I completely agree that it isn't even Thatcher's best cider, however in many parts of the country this is probably going to be as good as it gets if you go into a pub. It is much better than Magners, Strongbow and the fruity cider. I also prefer this to Stowford press.
I'm just very grateful I live on the English/Welsh boarder, where it is more likely (but not certain) that a pub will have a more exciting cider..

Ironically, I haven't seen Magners around much in my area, when it was practically dominating supermarket shelves 10 years ago. Essex has always been a bit of a grey area for cider, but at least there are a few more options available now (like Sxollie and Pulpt)
I'd personally always go for a haze rather than a gold, if it was given to me I wouldn't be dissapointed but I don't go out go my way to buy it.

Nice video. I like all of the thatchers but I usually buy the gold because it is stronger than the other flavours. I think 4% for the other flavours is to weak.

Ah yeah, You think You'll do a revist video on the Haze cider? Or the Katy since that one is also 13 years old.
Compared to some of the Aspall ciders I have had recently thatcher's gold is a flavour sensation in comparison.
Sounds like Molson Coors have had a hand at changing the recipes for Aspalls ciders then. To be fair though, some of them were already pretty uninteresting to begin with in my opinion.
Thatchers Gold was definitely a favourite of mine when I first started going to pubs, especially because in places like Wetherspoons it was the only decent cider they really offered. I feel similar to you in that it seems a bit blander than it used to be, and Haze would be my number one choice out of their range now.
Seems like they need to push Haze a bit more then, as everyone I've spoken to so far prefers it over their Gold now!

feel like im parroting every other comment here haha but thatchers haze is absolutley better than gold. ive got to say though im not that big on any thatchers ciders, whether its gold, haze, katy, vintage, blood orange (which actually wasnt as bad as i expected it to be) thatchers in general just dont do it for me for whatever reason. when it comes to the widely available, cheaper lower strength ciders stowford press is the only one i really enjoy.
I was pleasantly surprised by their Blood Orange too, and it's one of my wife's favourites. It's been ages since I've had a Stowford Press too....maybe that's the next one I revisit!
Hard to find a decent cider theses days use to love stowford press but that’s gone like strongbow now to chemical and only cider on tap I like is thatchers gold but I do like the Henry westons vintage and on tap is my go to ciders when I am out lucky I live I Hereford so I can get Henry Weston’s on tap everywhere 😊😂
That IS lucky! I need to get round to trying another of their vintages out at some point, there's bloomin' loads now!

Thatchers Gold is nice but Strongbow Original is my favourite, can you revisit Strongbow Orginal? your channel is always good to watch
