Hi, I have an default on my credit report, for not paying water bills on time, company who defaulted me is a united utilities, they've passed my debt to debt collectors, but because they didn't close my account, I've paid everything back straight to united utilities, not to debt collectors, and my original account haven't been closed till today, since then I'm paying all my bills on time. Is it legal, to put default on my credit report if they failed to close my account, and let me keep using it? Default is already 2 years old. I have all proves that the account I had with them when they default me, is the same account I'm using now. Thank you.
Hi Jax! the first step is to bring the matter up with the lender and present your case. Make sure to provide sufficient evidence to increase your chances of succeeding. If they do not agree, then the next step would be to contact the credit reference agency and present them with the evidence. Having a default removed can be a tiresome process, and I would suggest getting the help of Citizens Advice or StepChange while you do so. Here are a few links and articles for further reference: moneynerd.co.uk/how-get-default-removed/ citizensadvice.org.uk/ and stepchange.org/ Good luck!

Do you know how to remove a financial association to someone?
What if you’re in dispute and don’t agree?
